ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

I sent them a bag of 12 name brand items. Out of the 12 they paid me for 2 items. The two items they sold for a total of $25.50, they paid me $3.50 (13%). I get 50% from my local consignment shop. I will never deal with them again... I would rather give my clothes to charity. Also, you wait for over 60 days for your money.
I sent a huge bag of HIGH end items. I did not expect a lot for each one but I would expect $10 for a shirt in perfect condition that originally cost $40. They only gave me $6 for the entire bag. These people are crooks. Wish I had never sent anything.
But i love shopping with them and they're very clear that you can send your items in and pay a small fee to have anything they don't accept returned to you. I feel good contributing to the process of recycling clothing and not contributing to the bad labor/environmental practices of many popular clothing lines.
I have experienced Thredup as both a buyer and a seller. I haven't experienced many issues with purchases. Watch out for returns sometimes they do short hand you. If you email them they typically respond and correct within 48-72 hours.
Selling is not worth it. I have sent in over 15 bags (I know) filled with new, current clothes. They will accept 8-10 pieces (ok) and payout is 5-10 bucks! They don't give you the option to reject their payment for your items. I have been severely underpaid for multiple, multiple items. I would do better at a garage sale/ebay/donation. I will not be sending any more items.
I can see from some other reviews that people are upset about selling clothes to this site. But I hate for them to get a bad rating for only one side of their business. The flip side is that they sell amazing clothes and shoes and accessories for sooooo cheap! I have almost an entirely new summer wardrobe of some really great clothes and have spent less than $200.
I'm not into labels so I really just go for stuff that's trendy and inexpensive. They sell clothes in excellent condition for as little as a dollar!
So think about it. If they sell stuff for so cheap, they aren't going to be buying stuff for a lot of money.
It's a trade off that I'm willing to accept because I'm more of a buyer than a seller anyway.
One of the best parts is that they allow you to send stuff back to exchange for free (i. E. They pay for shipping.) (unless you bought a final sale item. But in general that stuff is sooo inexpensive that it hardly matters.)
One other great thing is that I had an issue with a return I made just this week. One item out of four I was sending back, I wasn't credited for. So I contacted customer service and they took care of it quickly and without giving me a hard time at all. But the crazy thing is that it was my mistake! Yikes! I found the item and realized I had forgotten to put it in the return box. So even though they never found the item, they took my word for it and handled it with ME in mind. Keeping my business and keeping me happy! Awesome customer service! Soooo appreciated! (And yes, I'm sending it back. I feel like a jerk for making that mistake. But I'm glad I did cause it really showed me the caliber company they truly are)
It's a rare thing to find a company that understands the importance of that kind of customer service. Taking losses to retain customers. Super smart.
I'm totally in love with Thredup. I tell everyone I know about them, and am so happy to leave them a positive review.
I set them a bag of women's clothing with labels from Barney's, Ann Taylor, and other designers. They plucked out a Ralph Lauren dress and paid me $6.50. There was a similar item for sale on their website for $254. I asked to have mine back. They refused. And undoubtedly made several hundred dollars.
They 'accepted' 20 items and offered me $18. Ridiculous. 90% had never been worn and retailed for $40. And they took over a month to process the offer. Will never use.
Reading the reviews makes me wonder how they stay in business, sounds every bit as misleading as Good Will, they too make huge profits and don't even pay Penney's for their merchandise. So buyers/sellers beware.
After paying for shipping your items to thredup you might not be making anything.
I spent a long time reading the information on their website and nowhere did it explain that they literally give you a few pennies for each garment and that you can't even get cash for it! They gave me a $17 credit for a big bag full of new or like new condition designer clothes and shoes. Much of it was only a month or two old (I have a baby that has a ton of clothes and is growing very fast). I try to cash it out and apparently there is a $20 minimum?!?! So, now, if I want to see my money at all, I'd have to send in more items. It's either that or I get a credit (would never do business with them again) or donate the money. By far the worst business I've ever dealt with. Stay away from this scam. I knew that people never get what they feel like they deserved, but this is insanity. They're advertising all over Facebook and counting on people just going to the website and not reading reviews. That will work for a while, but at some point, it will catch up with them. What a bunch of scum bags.
First of all they got top quality garments and I got pennys... There has to be something we can do... I wish I never seen this site... beautiful things they got top dollar's for... SMH SMH
So upset
Clothes looked better in person and fit like they were made for me.
I shipped them a bag full of clothes, many of which still had tags, even a brand new north face jacket that I paid $120 for. They accepted 10 items and gave me $27. They sold several of the items for $35 or more each... You get pennies on the dollar. I could have sold that North Face coat on Ebay for $30 by itself. So mad that I did this.
It is fun to see what they have and if you decide to buy something, no big investment made.
I feel like they keep raising the amount required for free shipping. I wish they offered more promo codes o r specials too.
I've never sent anything to Thredup, so this a review of my buying experiences.(I don't think I'll ever send clothing to Thredup because I've heard from other sites and Thredup that they don't accept everything and that you get a very small amount of money for your clothes.) Anyway, Thredup has been a great way for me to buy gently used brand name clothing for a good deal. Once I forgot to add a promo code at checkout, so I emailed them and they promptly and gladly applied the promo to my order! Their clothing is so fun and unique and I've found lots of my favorite clothes at Thredup.
THATS RIGHT! THEY HAVE DONE EXACTLY WHAT EACH OF THESE HAVE REVIEWS POSTED... WUSH I WOULD HAVE KNOWN TO READ THESE REVIEWS BEFORE I MAILED THEM GOOD STUFF!
So far I have sent 5 bags the very 1st bag I got $23 and they only accepted 1/2 the bag and it has all sold. They sold one of my items for more than what I was paid. The next bag I got $8. What a joke. The next 2 bags nothing an even bigger joke. I don't know what the last bag will be because they take so long to process. I would have rather donated the bags myself than deal with these thieves. Don't waste your time.
For those of you having bad experiences selling at ThredUp because you feel like you are losing money, check out Luxury Garage Sale! They have an ebay site and a normal website, they also have a few boutiques in Chicago and Dallas. They guarantee that you will receive 60% of the sale price and they confirm the prices with you before they put it on their websites.
I sent thredUP a clean out bag this winter. It's June now. When I ordered the bag, I got an email confirming that my bag was on the way. My bag arrived in the mail at the expected time, but that was the last I heard from them. I packed the bag full of nice clothes that I probably could have sold on ebay and sent it out through USPS. The company never told me if my items were received. I never got so much as an email, let alone payment. I want to like this company. I like the idea. Unfortunately, I can't recommend a company that treats their costumers like this, and I can't risk sending them another package. With anything else, this kind of costumer service interaction would be unacceptable. I don't know if my bag got lost, or if they just never bothered to notify me. One would think that I would have been notified they had never received my package as well. With this kind of track record, I don't even want to risk buying from them. If they want to keep their costumers and not go out of business, they need to completely makeover their policy.
So far 11 out of my 18 items have sold. I have gotten an upfront payout of only $13.88 and they have already made $73.00 on the 11 items. If all my items sell they will have made $123.00-$13.88= roughly $109.00 profit. Are you telling me I only get $13.88 from this? Not very happy so far no
They are selling all the merchandise I send for more than $300 and only gave me $34... I guess is good if you want to buy but s not good for sellers.
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
