thredUP Reviews Summary

ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

I Can't Contact thredUp -
September 8, 2016

I was not refunded the correct amount of money for returned items, but I have no way of contacting thredUp, as there is no phone number or e-mail listed. It says on their website that there is live chat, but it gives no way to access it. Please get back to me ASAP - Janet Accetta - *******@earthlink.net

This company is amazing. Im not really committed to selling consigment. I mostly donate to goodwill or (cringe) throw in garbage, large trash bags of high end purses, boots, jeans, dresses Ann Taylor suites 2 times in the year. I juat made 2 Tjredup orders in 2. Days. Im soooooo exited to see my clothes! I haven't even received the packages yet but the buying experience says all I need to understand.to trust this. Company. I watcjed youtube hauls and every single one was juat outstanding and felt good about recieving pre-loved items. I have about 60 items from thredup, in total about it was $300.00 I saved about 3K! (THANK YOU THREDUP!) Its not just the incredible bargins on designe merchandise... more importantly was the coustomer focused usability of the website and just how intuitive (makes obsessively shopping way more likely) shopping experience and the financial transparency that is aligned with mission and vision of Thredup. They are thinking outside the industry box by avoiding massive inventory of low quality merchandise. THREUP is all about high-quality brands we love that the average consumer can now afford, because Thredup' service is aligned with their mission and vision
Im. Hooked!

If you are looking to get rid of used clothes, you are much better off either giving it away to charity for a tax write off, standing in line at a thrift store, or selling it yourself on an app. I packed up probably a 30 lb bag and sent it in. First thing is, once you send them your bag, you lose all rights to dispute the value they assign to your item. You have no idea what sold and for what amount, and if you felt it was worth more, well. Too bad. I basically ended up with a very tiny amount for the amount of lightly used items I sent in (I was very careful- everything that didn't fit in their brand descriptions went to goodwill). Once you send it in, it takes over a week to arrive, and then they don't process it for another month. Once that happens, you get a tiny fraction of cash for your clothing, and then you can't even access it while it is pending for two weeks. And then, if you want to withdraw to your paypal account, there are fees. If you're looking to make money off used items, this is probably the worst way to do it. It's definitely a win on their end but as a seller, you're on the losing end. Take some time and photograph your items yourself or get a tax write off from goodwill, you'll fare much better.

Do not Sell here
September 7, 2016

My buying experience was bad, I bought 2 items which turned out to have stains on them, but these stains were not stated in the description. You are better off taking your clothes to a shelter/Goodwill, or sell them on eBay yourself!
Now for selling:
Granted I should have looked at their clothing calculator before sending in my clothes, if I did this I wouldn't be so pissed. They kept 18 pieces and so far they have profited $90 with selling just 6 of the pieces they kept, but I only received $18, everything they kept was like new or hardly worn, but when I go to read the reviews they state there is fading on blue jean attire, it is supposed to be faded, that is the look of the clothes.

Company is going down...
September 7, 2016

Website functionality has decline over past year. Customer services is abysmal. Multiple items arrived and were miss-sized. AND, one of the NWT pairs of pants I ordered were listed as originally $102, discounted to $62.99. It arrived and the original price was on the tag was $42! You've got to be kidding me! They are charging MORE than retail? I used to be a fan, but this was my last order from ThredUp!

Absolute rip-off. Of the four items I ordered, only two were described correctly.

One item was described in almost new condition. Well in fact, it was new. The tag was still attached. ThredUp gave the original retail as $59.99 when the tag (not marked down) showed it to be $19.50 retail. And the condition... stained!

Another item, an expensive Magaschoni top arrived with a very large ruffle on the front. I mean, HUGE. There was no description of this and the photo-so dark- does not show a ruffle. So, did they send me the correct item? Who knows? The overall picture quality is beyond awful. This needs to go back.

I will never order from this site again.

I should have read the reviews before sending my items. I would have gotten more having a garage sell or selling through a local cosignment store. I could have gave them to a shelter for women in need or to an organization that help women get jobs. This company is a ripoff!

Never again.
September 3, 2016

This company took 4 items from my bag. They sold those 4 items for $55.00. However, I was only given $4.55. I understand that they need to make money as well, but this is just ridiculous. I will never recommend this company to anyone.

They obviously spent $0 on the photography for their website. The images are so dark I can't see where the seams are in the clothing, and if the item is black it's like looking at a silhouette. They also don't steam the clothing or put it on the mannequin correctly. I'm scared to order because I have no idea what the clothing will look like in real life.

Not a good Value
September 2, 2016

Sent in 15 items in excellent condition including 2 prom dresses from David Bridal only worn once. They gave me credit for 2 items totaling $6.00. Could have done better on Ebay or Yardsale. Not a good value - no way to know if credit will be sufficient. Friend and I sent bags at the same time. Took 3 months to process. Not a big deal really. But Friend received very low credit for items and then saw her items for sale for $30. Again - better off selling on Ebay or in a yardsale.

Thieves-- stay away
September 1, 2016

I am SO angry about my experience with Thred Up. I had been purchasing clothes from this company for a couple months before I decided to send a bag in to sell. My first bag contained lots of high-quality, designer clothes. They gave me $88 for this bag. Fine. My second bag contained all of my son's 5T clothes that he recently outgrew. All were excellent quality, brand names. They accepted 11 items and gave me... 1 cent?! I am outraged, as I could have traded those items in for other used items locally-- my son actually needs new clothes!, or I could have donated these old items to family members in need of good clothes. This place is a total ripoff. I hope someone will start a new resale site that isn't such a scam.

I was in LOVE with this store... but no longer. I sent in my stuff - they kept about 50% of it & returned the rest. When i got the items back, i could understand why some of them were returned... same with the 2nd bag i sent in.
But then... the third bag i sent in, which i VERY meticulously chose clothing for, so as not to get as many back...(i sent in very nice name brand boots (which they said they were in need of... and outerwear...) they kept ONE ITEM... and it wasn't even a "cold weather seasonal item" that they supposedly needed.
I am SO PISSED. I made 70 cents. Wtf,
On top of that i had to wait a MONTH to even order a damn cleanout kit. I logged in the day it kept telling me to wait until and ordered a kit immediately. Then i get an email from them that it will be a month before the kit processes. So i wait a month - to get 70 cents. SEVENTY CENTS. Wow. And i will be paying $12 to get the rest of the items back. So technically i lost money.
I am disgusted. And were i to buy an item like the one i got 70 cents for... it would cost me at least $10. What kind of mark up is that? Un-f-ing-real.

I bought a great blazer!
September 1, 2016

I am new to ThredsUP. I sent in a bag of clothes and a second bag of boots. They sent me email confirmations (sort of like tracking) to keep me apprised of the steps to process. It seems to me that 4 weeks to process a bag is a bit much, but I'm not in a hurry nor count on any money I may make.

In the meantime, I bought a beautiful Blazer from Saks. I think it was about $28 and with shipping a little over $30. The blazer is gorgeous. I am a plus size, so it's harder to find nice things in my size (20). The blazer came in about a week and I am very pleased.

September 1, 2016

I love thredUP! I have many pieces in my wardrobe that are my favorite! Customer service is excellent also. I have a piece in my cart that I didn't purchase in time and she was able to put it back into my cart so I can purchase it! I got it, it fit perfect, like new, and I love it!

In the last 2 bags I sent, they accepted 21 items for a total payout of $20! Yes, you read that right... less than a dollar for each item! One of the items was a pair of Express shorts (NEW WITH TAGS) that retailed for $40. They gave me 60 cents for them! THEN, when I went to cash out my $20, it only showed a credit of $13.21. In what world does that make sense? I'm so confused and can't find ANY information accurately explaining why the payout is different from the credit listed. Furthermore, it seems as if they change their shipping policy like the wind blows. First it was free to send in a bag, then it was $5.99, now it's $10.99? AND, on the page where they break down what they kept, they don't itemize what they paid for what item, nor do they explain how they got to the number they got to. They don't list what they charged for shipping ANYWHERE, yet my totals don't add up. NOTHING on their site explains this in detail and there is no customer service email listed. This is the worst company ever. COMPLETE SCAMMERS! They are making BANK off of us and there is nothing we can do. DO NOT send your clothes here. Use a local consignment store or ebay... heck, even a yard sale would bring in more money! I am SO angry!

I bought 3 things for $27 and free shipping all new with tags. The pictures were perfect, condition, etc. I get the confirmation after payment that has a price of $4.80 for each item and "final sale" written next to that meaning I can't return them and then $6 for shipping. Two of the items were perfect, and one had picks and peels over the collar, down the zipper sides, puckering, and then bare spots at the bottom. It looked like it had been worn for months. I tried posting the pictures and the problem, and they tell me to send the email address the information. That's it. I would either get my money back in the form of a store credit, or have to pay $8.90 for a processing fee for it to go back on my card. Pathetic. I highly recommend you buy from Swap.com instead, and sell on ebay or a similar site.

We have brought very well-maintained, name brand clothing to re-sales shops near us where payout has been pretty good. In comparison, ThredUP paid out less than $5 for items where local shops paid a little over $30. Not worth the packing, mailing. ThredUP does donate items they don't accept but better to support a local such as the Salvation Army.
