ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

I ordered what I thought was a shoulder purse and when I received it and opened the box to my surprise it was TINY! Slightly larger than a wallet. However, the service tech was very understanding and sent me a Return Label immediately. So alls well that ends well. I will continue buying from ThredUp. Love their style.
I have no complaints! I recieved quality, name brand items at fair prices, shipped to me quickly. I will continue to shop at ThredUP whenever good promotions are available. It would be great if there was even more selection!
Working with thredUP couldn't be easier as they provide the shipping envelop, including the mailing label, they bill you for shipping after they receive your package & they keep you posted through the entire process of accepting & marketing the items you've sent. Then, to make the transaction sweeter, you can use the money generated by the sale of your items to purchase great deals at thredUP. Fabulous system!
I've always loved ThredUp since I discovered a way to get rid of my clothing I don't want anymore and getting some money back for some of it. I've earned about $70 through the service!
I have ordered from Thred Up several times. My items always arrive quickly, they are always wrapped neatly and they always look great - all at a great value
Experience was simple but one of the pair of pants I purchased was labeled as regular but was actually Long. Other than that it was simple.
Photos were good but lack of fabric specifics made this purchase go straight into the donation bin. Given the price I'd still come back for more steals but will 100% stick to brands I know.
I can't rate the jeans, I've yet to receive them. Not impressed with shipping.
I bought ~$75 worth of clothes and about $30 of it fit. I returned the rest for credit, and bought another $60 (the $45 credit plus another $15). This time maybe $20 of it fits and I won't bother trying again.
It's not that the clothes aren't nice - they're all fine, and they're packaged up quite nicely too. It's just not a good way to buy clothes. I'm better off going to local thrift shops, which have a smaller selection, but also lower prices (even here in Los Angeles), and I don't end up with mostly things I can never wear.
If you know your size in a particular brand for sure, go for it. I got a pair of Converse that are lovely and fit. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.
I loved opening my ThredUp box. It was so fun to get such amazing deals. I like buying used because fast fashion is so wasteful. I love giving a second life to clothing. ThredUp understand me! I just wish I knew odd be getting a free cleanout bag with my order. I spent an extra $9.99 for a separate one.
I have been using Stitch Fix for over a year and spending a significant amount of money on new clothes. I can now pick from the brands I love and get an honest estimation of the clothes I'm getting. I love my new wardrobe-and it's susty!
Love the clothes I got. Exactly as described. Loves the packaging! Made me feel special. Addicted to this site and the savings!
Very happy with my experience. I love the prices and the variety of clothes. I also am very happy with the customer support.
I was told the items I ordered were in pretty good shape and one came and is ripped right in the front.
I sent in a bag to sell with about 20 barely worn clothes and a couple that were never worn with tags on it. All were still in style, but some were a little older. It took so long to process the clothes (I sent it at the beginning of November and just got the email saying it was processed) and they only accepted one item (the oldest clothing item I sent them). Not only that, but they also don't tell you what they rejected, so there's no way to know what of your clothing items get donated unless you keep track of it yourself. My overall payout was $0.35 for plenty of on-brand styles that would have gotten so much more a regular consignment shop. They also recently changed their payout method that is poorly explained and there is no way to contact costumer service other than a dinky little chat thing.
This company is horrible. I regularly sell clothing and related items using a variety of resale options. ThredUP provides the least value, and is the least customer service friendly of all organizations. Their business practices border on fraud. It takes 2 weeks or more to get your funds, they pay less than market value, they charge you to ship items to them, and then they set up a crazy system for pay outs THAT DOES NOT WORK. I sent bags to them in October. I have yet to be paid - albeit the average $2/item payout for name brand, high end clothing (Tory Burch, J Crew, Kate Spade, etc). Just a horrible, horrible, company. STAY AWAY. If I could rate a NEGATIVE, I would do so.
I was super excited received pretty bag and cleaned out my closet. Most of my items name brand with tags on them. I sent a new jacket valued $130 with tags on it with other items my bag packed full! And to add insult to injury you get email ITEM SOLD. (ALL MY ITEMS SOLD) so you know they sold item made good money, but after everything I made $5.50 Dont waste your time its so disappointing! Buying from them maybe ok,
I have ordered three times. The sorting on the site is very detailed, the clothes are great quality!
I'm a classic case of falling in love with one or two staples, then wearing them into the ground. It's great to be able to restock with my old favorites at a cheaper cost (or in the case of some of these, being able to find them at all.) My only caveat with ThredUp (as with any consignment) is that you get NOTHING when you give clothes to them. I've priced out what I received from items sent in vs what I can see they sold the items for, and it's something around 5% of where ThredUp priced the items. So now I just donate my clothes and only buy.
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
