Dear James (CEO),
Your company is obviously re-selling the good stuff, either to other consignors, abroad, on Ebay - somewhere. You are going to get caught.
I am glad I came across these reviews before giving my clothes to a bunch of criminals. I looked at some of your reject photos that others shared -- funny how they are the cutest, highest quality, best condition clothes. I'd rather donate them and someone needy can benefit than deal with you crooks!
I thought thredUP was a pretty good experience... i made $65 by sending in a bag of my son's old clothes, which is more than giving it to his cousin (big fat ZERO ha ha ha). I just placed an order too, so we'll see how that comes out. 4 stars - I would give 5 but they didn't have strollers :(( (((((
Don't waste your time! I had the same experience as Julie another reviewer. Packed a bag with my assistant of over 60 designer articles of clothing in the first bag--looking to make some quick cash. It took two months for them to get back. They accepted 4 articles at $25.80 and after all their administrative fees I made a whooping $4.32, which they then take 14 days to send. They try to get you to spend up your meager earnings on their SH$T. If they have already ripped you off once--why would you stick around so they can gut you twice. Anybody ready this--don't waste your time and energy--Just go to Goodwill or give it directly to a Women's and Children Domestic Violence Shelter. Everybody wins!
So, I sent in a second bag thinking that maybe the bad experience was a one-time thing.
They accepted and sold almost everything (one item didn't sell).
11 items.
I got $6.90
I'd rather just give it all to a Buy Nothing Facebook group.
It's so little money for what you give them. I sent over a huge bag of premium women's/kids clothes, which totaled over $200 in inventory for them (probably close to $1,000 full retail) and I got about $22. So not worth it. I've gone in person to places like Buffalo Exchange and got between 40-60% of what they will eventually charge. ThredUp doesn't even offer a higher amount for a trade in value, which they should. There should be a "cash out" amount, and a "shop with us" amount. Also, I bought a pair of shoes and a cardigan with my "cash out". The cardigan was labeled as new (I paid $30 for it), and it had a hole in it.
I've used ThredUp twice now and I'm so pleased with the selection and pricing. I didn't expect the clothes to arrive in such a nice package either! All of my items have been in near perfect condition and the return process was really easy. I like how you can narrow down sizes and brands easily. There are a lot of department store websites that still can't handle more than one size or brand selection at a time! The kid's clothing I've received has also been great. New addiction!
I've been using thredup since the box swap days. Great for purchasing clothing, but I find that selling to a local consignment shop is easier. The purchased clothes are always in great condition and as expected.
I'm glad that the bag was free.
Getting your clothes back (after appraisal) costs money
They're selling my clothes for $20--of which I *would* be making 60 cents, but there's somehow a $1.50 fee. So, I make nothing. They make $20. Interesting deal...
Christmas present for handicapped daughter. Juicy couture hat has J on front which will help her to recognize hat and not lose it. Gloves are nice also. Don't mind that they are used. Excellent condition. Good gift
Love everything about thredUP!
Cell phone app is easy to use.
Great inventory, awesome prices, quick shipping, thoughtful packaging and everything I have ordered has been in pristine condition and exactly what was shown.
Thank you!
Best customer service ever! Awesome clothes and other items are top notch high quality! They should add a Favorites button function to allow shoppers to save an item to buy later. I like how you can customize your search.
WOW! What a great resale store. If you know your sizes pretty well why would you shop anywhere else? Everything I've bought so far has been perfect size and in shape. I will keep going back to ThredUP first before the department stores.
Customer service is inept. Takes a long time for a response. Executive sent an email "follow up" which included a link to an invalid email address and his own address rejected replies. Payout is not transparent; you must request reasons for rejection rather than an outright listing. No photographic evidence provided. Prices of items change WHILE IN YOUR CART. Payout on bag took 2 months from mailing date. Returns require purchaser to pay return shipping. Item listings do not include basic information such as color or dimensions.
Mostly sold talbots and similar quality. Payouts usually only 15% of list, which gets me a couple dollars before fees! I have sent in my 4th and last bag to them. They listed a genuine leather jacket from cold creek as faux leather for $9, netting me $1.35. You can definitely do better elsewhere as a seller. It takes about a month to be paid. Shipping is VERY SLOW. I ordered a bag to ship in 10 days ago, as of yesterday they had not even shipped it! As a buyer I like the site, thats why the got one star. Stuff I bought was in nice shape and well packaged but every order takes around 2 weeks to get. Even when I don't opt for bundled Shipping, they still wait and consolidate before shipping!
I love shopping in consignment stores. I been doing it for many years. I heard about thredup from an influencer that I trust very much. I was so disappointed with this company. First off, it's like what you ordered they don't even care about. I ordered one size and I got multiple sizes. (Smaller sizes), then, pieces of my dresses were missing. Description says all pieces included but it doesn't, when I asked for the actual pieces I wanted I had 3 people reach out asking what happened. No one cares about actually helping. I will never order, or refer anyone. Worst first time experience ever a waste of $200
Hi Judah, thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We're really sorry to hear that you didn't have a great experience with your first order, and please be assured that we care about your satisfaction. Please send us an email to reviews@thredup.com with more details about your inquiry and the order number, we'll gladly assist you better from there.
Sent a bunch of really nice expensive clothes. Got $8.99 in credit, then they charged $10 for shipping. Might as well have given the clothing away. I had used it before twice, sending in worse clothing and received more money. What a scam.
Love thredUp! I'm recommending to all my friends. Better than a Goodwill or Salvation Army, because you can browse and even search for specific apparel and accessories in the privacy of your home. Wish I had known about this website sooner.
First time shopper at Thredup. Easy to find my size and prices were great for high end clothing. Shipping was quick. My only suggestion would be better descriptions and more photos with zoom capability.
Prior to the recent restocking fee policy, I would have given thredup 5 stars.
In fact, I recommended to many people over the last several years. Yes, they're not an awesome way to make money selling your clothes. Whoever said "you're better off donating" is partially correct, although I'd argue that mailing a thredup bag is more convenient than driving to your local thrift store. For buying used clothing, they WERE great.
However, the restocking fee is absurd. Particularly given they cannot guarantee sizing on clothes. Even if you know how you typically fit in a certain brand, clothing can change size/shape with wash/wear, and this is a used clothing website. No longer having free return shipping has ended my days with thredup.
Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. In order to maintain low prices and continue to offer a huge selection of high-quality secondhand styles, returned items may be subject to a restocking fee. While these fees may change over time, we have the best interest of our customers in mind every step of the way.
Our Customer Service team is here to help with any shopping questions you may have before you make your purchase. After all, it's our mission for you to find the perfect pieces for your closet. We hope this offers some clarification.
Horrible. If I could give it no stars I would. Sent in a full sack of clean girls clothes. Stated there was stain. There were none. Received $5 for around 18 items. Use your local consignment store or donate so you will get the tax write off.
I've been so pleased with thredUP's services. From purchased items, fast answers to emails, delivery time & all points in between. Maybe it's just me but I find the obvious care put into preparing packages for shipping so charming. A bonus detail that I appreciate.
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
