Spectrum is Garbage

I have been a Spectrum Customer for over 6 years now and their customer service and price have become unacceptable. I constantly have issues with their advertised speeds, about half the time they don't come close. Every three to four months they have to send a tech to fix their dilapidated infrastructure and or have to replace my modem.

I have also been informed by a couple of different spectrum techs that have come to my house for work that have said spectrum has fiber all the way to the boxes outside my house but refuses to hook them up.

For Comparison... I pay $70 per month for an advertised 300 down and 10 up (and half the time this is not so). I also have another property in the same state but a different city, where I have Race Communication (a much smaller company). With Race i pay the Same ($70) but i get 1000 up and down with fiber internet.

Unfortunately, spectrum is the only internet provider in my area, so I am stuck paying their ridiculous prices for a service that is subpar at best! Please do yourself a favor and avoid moving into an area where spectrum has a virtual monopoly.

Spectrum is a Garbage Company! AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Horrible! Sales guy was impossible to work with. Kept giving us the run around for installation - took months, finally showup They installed 6 liines into my medical practice with 6 unknown #s, never ported my old numbers over, so that the service was unusable, then kept billing for service we never used. Then we try to cancel everything and we are on the line for hours getting sent back and forth from rep to rep, getting a complete run around. NOW THEY JUST HUNG UP ON ME. BY FAR THE WORSE SERVICE OF MY LIFE.

I transferred my business account from AT & T to Spectrum. The service has been consistent. What I find beyond frustrating is their phone system. Spectrum did not port my 800 line from A T & T. I have lost that number. That is a mistake. I get it. However, it has been a terrible waste of my time trying to get an 800 number set up. Their phone prompts do not allow you to get to the correct department for assistance. I have wasted so much time trying to get to someone who can help with the issue. Once I do get to the correct person, they do not have a direct line to return a call. I have spoken with 2 different people who have said to expect a return call within 24 hours. No one has returned my call. So I am back in the phone prompt hell to try to get back to the correct person. This is all so I can get an 800 number set up for my business that should have been taken care without issue by Spectrum. This is an issue that has gone on for several weeks now. Following up with customers should be part of your customer service. Correcting your mistakes should be part of your customer service. Having a user friendly phone system should be part of your customer service. Spectrum is lacking in basic customer service.

Spectrum is a bunch of crap. Every other day my wifi goes out. Spectrum system is always down. I pay too much money every month to receive poor service like this. DONT DEAL WITH THEM AT ALL!

The service is ALWAYS mediocre... I rarely have a good connection and when we try to contact the business their customer service is always terrible and inconsistent. DO NOT PUT YOUR TIME AND MONEY INTO THIS BUSINESS!

MY INTERNET SERVICE IT SEEMS TO WORK WITH GASOLINE EVERY MONTH OR SO I HAVE TO CALL SO THEY CAN SEND ME THE SIGNAL AND THE SPEED THAY I PAY FOR. AND IF YOU GO TO THE MAIN OFFICE YOU WAIT MORE THAN AN HOUR TO BE HELPED. THATS NOT ACCEPTABLE. IF THIS TIME MY SERVICE DOESNT IMPROVE IM GETTING OUT.
DONT BUY SPECTRUM!

I have used Spectrum for over 8 years. I called to cancel today because every year they bump the price up by at least 10-15 dollars and I have to complain. This year they bumped it up $20. My husband found a great deal with another company with faster internet, so we switched.

Today I called and spoke with a head customer service representative by the name of Faith. She asked me personal questions and continued to interrupt me after I'd told her several times I just wanted to cancel my service. The final time, I interrupted her back and said, "I do not want to give you information about my personal choices for my household, I just want to cancel my service." Faith interrupted me back and said, "The way this works is, I speak and then you speak." I couldn't believe my ears and asked to speak with her supervisor. She told me she is the supervisor of customer service and that the call was being recorded. I said, "Great! Then they can hear the way you're talking to me!" I honestly couldn't believe it. After that, she put me on hold for 5 minutes, then came back and offered me a $30 a month discount, like they always do. I said, "After the way you have treated me, no." She never apologized and finally cancelled my service after being on the phone for about 15 minutes. I've never been spoken to that way, and certainly not by a customer service representative! I'm posting this review to say beware of upcharges every single time you renew, and the horrific behavior of Spectrum's supposed "experts."

Worst choice ever.

When switching my electric over to my new place AEP informed me they can get quotes from cable companies. So I got a quote for spectrum (just a quote). They ended up sending me a cable box that I never wanted. After battling with customer service for a month and being hung up on I finally spoke to somebody that put me in the right direction. I returned all the equipment and told it was going to be nothing to be paid on my end. And with family members dealing with the issue before I specifically asked if they were able to either note send or email something stating that there was an issue. But it was resolved and I was not at fault. I was told yes that there would be no issues and that they could do that for me. Two months later I am receiving bills and after calling customer service once again. I am being told that due to their customer service in store representatives not correctly doing their job nor putting notes in the system that I have to pay for the mistake. Absolutely ridiculous inconvenient and definitely a waste of time. They are definitely unprofessional especially in the customer service department. Definitely don't recommend using them as a cable company. Customers shouldn't be faulted for employees mistakes.

First, when you sign up for their cable service they make you buy their equipment. When you can't use their Apple remote without touching something else on the guide to change something is frustrating. Second, when you change your cable service from Apple to the other option you get charged $25 more a month and you still have to pay for the previous service equipment! Third, when you disconnect their service in the middle of the billing cycle you are still charged for the whole billing month! There is no pro-rated amounts given out! The cable is crap with weather advisories every week with interruptions of regular programming. Plus, signal gets lost every week! Wi-Fi is slow and the signal drops on that too! The CEO makes 40 million per year and had a raise in 2019 from $18 million! Must be from all of the non pro-rated service's that are being charged and not used by the customers because they discontinued their services! Check and make sure which cable company is being used at your potential apartment complex because the Aventine apartments don't give you a choice and uses Spectrum! So, beware who you do business with when you move into an apartment complex. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau!

I called spectrum to set up new home internet and cell phone service. I explained I wanted to add an Apple Watch for my daughter using the family sharing feature, and she set up the account with my daughters name set up the billing, scheduled an install, and charged me a deposit/install fee. When I received the SIM cards and watch it was challenging to set them up, and when I would call spectrum, their automated system would repeatedly hang up on me. I finally managed to limp through the process in my own and the Watch wouldn't work. I got an error stating that carrier did not support requested function. I looked it up and sure enough, the saleswoman was wrong or flat out lied to me. So I called to confirm this finding and was repeatedly hung up on by the automated system again. When I finally reached an agent and confirmed what I'd found, I explained I wanted to cancel, and he told me there was a restocking fee for the Watch. I explained I wanted this waived, he refused. We went back and forth and he spoke with a supervisor and they waived 20$ of the 50$.

Spectrum misrepresented the capability of their service and is now asking that I pay for their mistake. The customer service to try and come to a resolution has amounted to 3-4 hours on the phone being repeatedly hung up on. Worst customer service I have ever experienced, with a little deception thrown in for good measure.

Fraudulent practices

Went to local Spectrum store today because we are tired of the picture tiling and sound cutting out on all three TVs. All the neighbors experiencing same thing. Found out that they have been charging g us for their Gold package, for the last two years, even though we only have access to the Silver channels and never upgraded! They refused to give a credit. One person said that we had Gold for 4 years, supervisor said phone call upgraded it 2 years ago-both wrong! Gold channels on all TVs gave a message we had to upgrade to see channel! One person said the equipment we had was old and that was why we couldn't access Gold. The supervisor said we have the latest equipment and have had for 2 years! Supervisor said in order to fix tiling and sound issues experienced by entire neighborhood they have to come into house-no way! So they fraudulently overcharged us for 2 years, refuse to credit us, refuse to send someone out to fix fix their equipment outside unless we let these stranger crooks into our homes-when the issue is not inside! This company should be sued and shut down. The people in the store are unbelievably nasty and just outright lied numerous times!

Just got spectrum TV today. The pause button is a joke. Not enough time to use the restroom, answer the phone for a very short conversation or smoke a cigarette. Totally worthless!

Price hikes up

Okay I decided to get spectrum in January and in July I noticed my bill was more than usual instead of $14.00 it's $19. Each month so I contacted them to ask why and was told your making payments on the phone that's why I said no on a recorded line I was not supposed to be I was told it was a free phone and a promotion for my area and I explained to the representative then I didn't need a phone because I had a family plan she said it's a free phone you just pay $14 each month so I said ok then they set me up for auto payments. It's September and I see bills of $55.00 coming to my phone and I spoke to a representative in leads Charley who was no help at all. One representative gave me $25 credit it July but that was basically nothing. I was charged another $55 then... Now I decided to cancel the phone plan and I'm being told is sorry well sorry will not help my pockets spectrum... Now I'm stuck with $79.00 left to pay on a useless phone I have... Do not get scammed by spectrum with their hidden fees people because I had their service for over 5 years and I was hit with surprised fee's.

Uninformed consumer

I cancelled my service because I moved house. While using Spectrum I was never told the modem equipment was rented so I left it behind in the apartment when I moved (it doesn't belong to me-why would I take it with me?
One month later, when paying my final bill the agent informs me that I owe $100 for unreturned equipment or I will be taken to collections. This was the first I heard about the responsibility of the consumer to return the companies modem. Returning the modem would have been simple if informed of the requirement. I mentioned that there were many occasions I could have been told to return the equipment, but since I had not been advised to return the modem, I could no longer do so because the apartment was rented to another Tennant.
The agents supervisor repeated that company policy requires the return of rented equipment or the customer will be charged for it.
I asked to speak to the supervisors supervisor because there is something wrong with a business model that holds the uninformed consumer accountable. I am awaiting the call will little hope of empathy after reading other reviews of this business. However, I will insist that Spectrum employees are trained to better inform the consumer of their responsibilities.
In this case, Spectrum should take the responsibility for not informing me and remove the $100 charge from my account.

Ordered the $49.99 service online. I had to pay for 'hook up'. They confirm when installing they are only installing for Internet not TV or Phone. Spectrum sends my first bill out after the first 30 day where I find out they are charging me $80 a month. I call and they tell me I ordered the TV and Internet bundle and they can take the TV bundle off and my new charge for Internet is $79.99 'there is nothing we can do we sent a confirmation email and it is past your 30 days'. Everyone I spoke with is snotty and rude, they know they have screwed you. I get all the way to the 'Manager of the Supervisor' who still claims 'Im sorry their is nothing we can do, you ordered the bundle we can give you the $49.99 deal you ordered online'. DO NOT USE THEM THEY ARE THIEVES AND USE BAIT AND SWITCH TACTICS! Maintaining customers is NOT important to them; I will never use them again!

Mis-communication with news media

Seem a lot of articles have been written about the US Affordable Connectivity Program... and Spectrum offering 100 MBPS. Since I've had 20 MBPS for years, I signed up for the ACP program and was approved... have been paying my full bill for 5 months now. EXCEPT, still at 20 MBPS because the 100 MBPS is ONLY for NEW customers. Didn't see that in any of the articles. And Spectrum Customer Service made it QUITE clear that the 100 MBPS offer was only for new customers.
So IF you are a new Spectrum customer and qualify for ACP, you can get the 100 MBPS... until the ACP program runs out and the price will go to $75 per month. (PS. 100 MBPS is currently the slowest rate offered.)

Double billed

I moved from one apartment to another in the same complex in June and today (7/11) I got a double bill for Internet service. Seems that you have to pay for service in both locations even when you disconnect and move the equipment. The only way around Spectrum's monthly billing policy is to turn off service for up to 60 days, then re-establish service at the 'new' location.
On top of that, my TV service is paid for by the apartment complex and Spectrum had me call their 'tenant' service reps after spending time chatting online... seems that my Internet service is tied to the TV service, making me a 'tenant', but my Internet service is my responsibility - makes no sense - am I a customer or a tenant?
