Read the terms of service and terms of use link on their website. Not once was the 12.97 mentioned in the text. When i called to dispute the charge i was told that it was.
Found it in the faq page. Very misleading. Cost of the program should be included in terms of service section. All these complaints of being charged the membership fee may have been avoided. I cancelled my membership solely because of this omision not because of any negative response to a rebate request.
I had an account in shopsmarter. One of my friend has also account,
He was moving out of town for few days and changed the address to mine so that he can get the check.
Shopsmarter canceled my membership and all my cash back saying its a violation.
And i was not able to reopen my account.

Like many people this past holiday season i did my shopping online. The site that supported "shopSmater.com" was Wal-Mart. I did not knowingly sign up to join this alleged saver shopping site. I was scammed out of my hard earned money, $40. It might not be alot to many however it helps me to put gas in my car, or pay for groceries, contribute to my monthly expenses.
Lesson learned, i will not shop from Walmart.com again
