I was low on medication and had been getting material from United Health Care saying I should use OptumRx. I transfered my scripts there and was told I would have medicine in 10 days. That meant I would be out for a few days but thought that would be OK. No medicine arrived. Waited a few days and then called. Was told there was a problem with the MD but medicine could be sent out now and would come in a few days. Then they sent an email saying ten days. By now I was over a week without medicine. Called my local pharmacy and asked them to fill my scripts. They called OptumRx who told them my meds had shipped. I called Optum and was told they had shipped therefore I could not get them locally. Waited 5 days and checked to make sure address was right. It was but medicine had not shipped. I am becoming symptomatic and not liking this. Would never use them again even though it is free to me. I would rather pay the copay and actually have the meds.
I had to complain to OptumRx again today. Every time I call it seems like a foreign person answers the phone and can barely understand the problem you're calling about. I'm really sick of this and plan to contact my insurance company UHC about changing pharmacies. Optum sent me a new prescription my doctor ordered humalog quick pin that requires needles to screw on the end of the pen in order to use it. The foreign person just kept saying just tell me what size needle you need and I'm like I have no idea what size needle that pen takes I've never took it before. So then they said they will contact my doctor so how is he supposed to know what size screw on needle goes at the end of the pen if he's never seen it before. I don't know what is going on with this company but it's time to make a change
They started to call the day after I placed an order telling me I had an amount due on my account, even though I hadn't received anything from them. They called EVERY DAY to collect their money. I asked them to send me an invoice and I would pay it. They agreed but never did send an invoice.
When you go online to pay you must register a card so they keep your card details. Most reputable companies let you pay with a card and store it for future use if you want. You cannot unregister a card, so if they are hacked, you're screwed.
Stay away from these guys!
Optum Rx is the pharmacy required by my husband's insurance policy at work. His policy is with Blue Cross Blue Shield. Last month received a notice that after jumping through multiple hoops (Dr's letters to for authorization) to get my specialty drug, Cosentyx, they were sending me to a different pharmacy. The new pharmacy told me the copay would change from $40 per month to $3000 per month! Cosentyx has a program that covers copays, and they have been doing that for several months. I have been on the phone for one hour 46 minutes so far trying to reach someone at Optum to have the correct copay information sent to the new pharmacy. I spoke to over 7 people and gave out my birthday, address, id multiple times. Still on hold...
I have had troble with Optum Pharmacy previously but this time they have gone too far. I had a prescription for a refrigerated medication that Optum transferred from Publix without my permission. When they realized that they were unable to fill the prescription, they abruptly cancelled it without notifying me. When I realized what was going on, Publix was able to call my doctor to rewrite the prescription and the pharmacist also had to have the medication transferred from another location. I wish I did not have Optum as my mail order pharmacy and I have transferred all my medications now to Publix. If you get a letter from United Healthcare asking you to transfer your medications to Optum, don't make the same mistake that I did. It will not save you any time or money.
I paid $1.91 for a 90 day supply in January 2020, in April, unbeknownst to me, the price jumped to $30.20 for the same medication. In June, the price went down to $2.86. I had to call 3 times to get an answer to why the discrepancy. I was told that the supplier had an increase in price in April. Blamed it on Covid 19, the OptumRx rep told me over the phone. I no longer trust this company. The next time I order, I will double check their posted prices and take a screen shot of the posted prices. DO NOT TRUST this company. I will be going on Medicare next month and I hope never to use this company again.
Every single time, they screw up my order but this last time is a doozy. They lost the rx of my controlled substance I take for pain. They can't tell me where the medication is and it was supposed to be delivered in two days. It appears to be waiting to be shipped but they don't know where it is. And they won't send me a new rx and they said they called the rx over to the local pharmacy but the local pharmacy say 1- they never called. And 2- that Optum can't legally send them my rx. So they lied. So I called back and asked for a supervisor. Twenty minutes later the customer service rep comes back on and tells me his supervisor ASSURED him my rx would be there tomorrow. Problem. He is full of it. The last customer service person also assured me it would be here no later than today. The last supervisor I spoke to said they screwed up and were supposed to two day air it to me. The refuse to help. They are AWFUL.
My doctor called the pharmacist several times just to clarify the dosage. But the dumb head pharmacist couldn't get the dosage. The pharmacist kept pestering me and the doctor about the same. I feel terrible to have come back to Optum to order for my medications. This was the last I ever ordered and will never ever recommend anyone to go for Optum. When I told the representative she did t even apologize for such a bad service. If I had option I would rate them -100 for such a pathetic service
I have been using Optumrx for several years now and have never had a problem. My medicine arrives on time, always correct, I let my Dr"s do my call in, I occasionally have to talk to a rep at Optumrx and have been treated better than the local pharmacies, I highly recommend this company.
My company made a horrible decision to move from BCBS to United-boy was that a huge mistake. UHC uses this company to process RX orders and for over 2 weeks, they can not figure out how to process my daily asthma inhaler-so I have gone 2 weeks without it! What a joke-a 5 year old could do a better job!
I ordered my heart medicine on February 13th, today is February 27th. I have called and texted repeatedly and they said on Feb 24th they were sending an expedited replacement to arrive in 24 hours! I am literally out of my twice-daily medication for days now. I am switching to my neighborhood in-person CVS. Life-threateningy poor customer service.
My dr has sent in my rx 2 times to which they reply they do have them or better he sent them to the local CVS [butm he did not, I called} so they lie.
I dropped Optum 2 years ago because of these same issues, but i was convinced to try them again as I take 10 rx's daily.
First order they double charged me the $200 I had to pay for 3 months of medication (only wanted and could afford 1, but they force you to take 3). Second order it's saying the $200 is for 1 month?
I send a message asking what's going on is this a typo? They reply based on my insurance I have to meet a deductible blah blah blah. Not helpful. They say at the end finally, it's $200 for 3 months, $67 for 1. (I can't buy 1 so...?)
I message again, saying it says $200 for 1 month what do I do? They reply that they've checked the pricing and yes, it's $200 for 3 months.
ARGH.
HELP ME WHAT DO I DO. Pay $200 for what says 1 month and hope I get 3? What! Explain what is happening, fix the error, HELP.
Time is running out and 5 days were wasted on waiting for their USELESS messages, and I need this medication TO FRICKIN BREATHE.
These people are garbage and I have no other option. Panicking, may literally die.

I had to go through their specialty pharmacy and have been waiting 5 weeks to get my med. I RELY ON THIS MED TO FUNCTION IN LIFE. No one cares when you call, they refuse to do any trouble shooting on the delay, they wont call me or my insurance company or doctors office. They are rude and flippant about my pleas. One woman suggested "if you need it so badly you could pay full price" which is 14,000 dollars without insurance for 1 month, no joke. I hate this company with all my being
Six months after being switched to Optum RX by my insurance company things have not improved. I have had to change a bunch of my medications because their coverage is poor and my prescription costs have increased substantially. This has impacted my quality of life, as I am now on less effective medication.
I just went through a lengthy prior authorization process for a medication, which was approved. I received the medication today, and it is the wrong medication. I am literally, currently on the phone with Optum and they said that their records indicate that they 1) have the prior authorization 2) the medication on the prior authorization is rejected when they try to authorize sending it to me and 3) as a result, they just sent me the WRONG MEDICATION.
Isn't dispensing the wrong medication illegal?
My insuance just changed to OptumRx from ExpressScripts, and it is terrible. Most of my medications that I've been on for years went from being covered to not being covered. The alternatives that OptumRx recommends I change to are medications I have tried in the past that do not work for me. My doctor has requested a special exemption, but I have still heard nothing back from Optum.
Even worse, is when I try to order medications in their online portal, no prices are available. It simply says "pricing not available." It's the same for every medication. If I add it to my cart and try to check out, it says that the medication is free, but has a disclaimer that says that they could charge me any amount for the medication when they ship it. There's no option to let me review that charge before they make it and I have to provide payment information to order the prescription so they can make this surprise charge. It is extremely shady.
Even worse, they are an online business, but have no email or online customer service contact. You have to call them on the phone and the hold times are very long. Customer service is NOT helpful at all.
This company is basically built to rip people off on their essential medications and I am disgusted that a company like this even exists.
My neurosurgeon from the Mayo Clinic prescribed a refill medication from Optum, as I now have to use this pharmacy, per insurance.
The pharmacist canceled the prescription stating they don't believe I need the prescription & that they don't believe the neurosurgeon from the Mayo Clinic knows what he is doing. Hence, no medication.
2 and a half years I had to get my medication for thyroid replacement from them due to my insurance from my work at a hospital. They continuously failed to get the meds to me. Always had to call and they would give bull $#*! excuses about why I haven't got it. After arguing with their escalation agent because they are just throwing lies out now they call me and try and claim its too early to refile my medication... I literally went to costco to refile because I was going to run out in two days. COMPLETELY TRASH COMPANY.
Website gives a price knowing my insurance info but then billed 5 times that price. No one who works there can explain why. The healthcare in USA is trash!
Avoid at all costs, your health will be in danger with this company. Communication and professionalism is the worst I have ever seen in any organization
Amazing incompetence IT staff. Entering your birthday is incredibly poor programming. The lost generation those people you raised that are living in your basement
Answer: They are a legitimate pharmacy benefits manager for United Healthcare, but their prices and practices leave alot to be desired.
Answer: Don't hold your breath - they are all about money - not customer service
Answer: You can send them a message on their website which they won't even read for days, so it's a useless feature. You can also call them at 1 (800) 356-3477 and sit on hold for 10 minutes before getting a person to talk to. In my experience, calling them has never resolved whatever issue I'm calling about, but you can talk to someone.
Answer: Only bad part of this united plan. Optum is worse than poor. They misplace Rx's and then lie
