Not really safe products
October 24, 2019

Many products they offer are not actually very environmentally friendly or safe, just marketed as such.

I started dealing with ePantry in December of 2014. So I was a pretty loyal customer. The folks you dealt with if you had problems were real people and very customer- service oriented. When they switched to Grove and promised that "only the name changed" they started really going downhill. Prices started to climb. One product was renamed as being better but the ingredient list was identical (if I recall it was a facial cream that first helped with fine lines and THEN was relabelled to help with firming - but the ingredients were exact).

The straw that broke the camel's back for me was the review process. I started noticing that *only* my good reviews were being published. Negative reviews were listed as "pending" for months. When I contacted them, it took at least 6 tries to get a solid answer. And now you are dealing with zendesk and not the original (great) owners. When I finally pressed harder, I was told that they "do not submit reviews if they have similar content to other reviews." So they are good with only 5 good reviews instead of 10? I highly doubt that. I then suggested that they were compromising their site by doing this and especially the integrity of the reviews. They didn't seem to care. I was told that one of my reviews was "rejected because of our strict product review guidelines and the reviewer felt as though there was not enough detailed content in the review. We look for rich content that will help customers make the right decision when purchasing products on our site."

I no longer have the faith in their products. Furthermore, I went to sites (e.g. Amazon) to compare reviews and Amazon would have (what I felt was) a truer mix of reviews and not just the glowing ones.

I have cancelled my monthly membership and will not go back. If you know exactly what you want and aren't the kind of person to try new things, then order your 7th Gen dishwasher soap from them. But when they try to lure you to a new product, be afraid. Be very afraid. My bottom line is: go elsewhere.

Don't order
April 22, 2020

I started ordering with Grove, July of 2019, I have actually gotten 4 additional people to start buying with them (I have reached out to them to possibly not order anymore). I started using their honu biotin, only used 15 days of it (2 of us in the house using it), obviously wouldn't really see any progress within only 2 weeks so ordered more beginning of March. Shipment came and no bottle of honu. No issue, things happen, I contacted them and they added one to my cart and asked me to wait to order it until I had more items to order since they are a small company (I have emails I can provide). I didn't have anything else to order because I just did an order, but no biggie, I will wait until I need more stuff. Place another order this month (April) received my box today (4/22/2020) missing the bottle of honu and a cleaning item. Sent an email letting them know and also stating that I would like them send them ASAP since I have already accommodated this mistake once for the same item in consecutive orders. I received a prompt response that the cleaning item was now out of stock so they would not be sending the bottle of honu biotin since they do no ship only one item at a time! I find this absolutely ridiculous as I accommodated them the FIRST time they didn't sent my item, therefore feel they should accommodate me on THEIR second error.

All in all, I will not be ordering with them anymore. There are plenty of companies for things like this, so not sending an item that someone has paid for and they have forgotten twice, and refusing to send it on a third attempt because it is a single item is unacceptable.

I like the selection and the convenience of monthly orders.
However, if you put something in your cart once, they will add it every single time, as well as any related products to that item, and keep doing so every single order.
For example, I ordered mosquito sticks 1x in early summer. It, and like items, are automatically added to my cart before every order, even thought it's now November in the NW and I never purchased them more than once.
And note- they will ship your order without your confirmation, it happens automatically, so if you aren't paying attention you will end up with (paying for) a ton of stuff you likely don't need.
I have at least $100 worth of product I don't need every single order that I have to remove so it doesn't ship.
Meanwhile, they have little in place to tell me when I might be leaving an essential that I haven't ordered in a while (like toilet paper). I'd much rather get overstocked on something useful than be tricked into a higher cart value with random crap.
Shipping extra boxes of products you don't need that might end up landfilled (with fossil fuels) sure seems to go against all of the claptrap they have about being an environmentally friendly company.
If they really were focused on the environment, they would add cubi-scan logic to your order, telling you how many boxes would be shipping and whether or not they were full. I got a 2 box order one time that had just 2 paper towel rolls in the second full-sized box. I easily would have bought more just to fill that box up, which would have given them the extra $$ they seem so desperate for every order.
I'm annoyed. Not to the point of cancelling, but that's probably coming in the not to distant future.

Hi there, thank you for your review! It is most likely that those items were added to your cart because of your Product Subscriptions. You can customize the shipping frequency for each product in your subscriptions or remove them completely by clicking the "x" in the top right corner of the product photo. Items in your product subscriptions will be automatically placed in your cart based on those settings. Removing items from your subscription does not remove them from your cart if they have already populated for your next shipment. We only want you to be receiving products that you truly want in each shipment, so if you need help managing your account, please reach out community@grove.co and we'd be glad to assist you!

After seeing an ad on facebook, we placed an order for several things, and ordered a little more than planned in order to take advantage of the deal offered, which was to get free products by ordering a certain dollar amount worth of other products. Well when we received the order, one of the products (a powder cleaner) exploded all over the rest of the order. The box of items was a mess. Additionally, a spray bottle of cleaner did not spray...(maybe clogged from the exploded powder?). I immediately called customer service, surely expecting them to make it right, particularly being new enthusiastic customers that thought we found a new company to love. The customer service person said that they could not ship out replacements because the shipment would be too small and not in line with their environmental philosophy. So they offered to give us credit for ONE of the ruined products to put TOWARDS OUR NEXT ORDER and would not do anything about the other ruined product because it was a free item that we got by placing the minimum order. What? First of all, what if I don't want to place another order? I just have to eat the cost of the product I lost? Secondly, the "free" item was because I purchased a certain amount, so I am entitled to get that product as well. Furthermore, my order was a complete mess; all products AND the floor had to be cleaned up. Why should I be out 2 of the items I was supposed to have? This was an unacceptable response and handling of the situation. I understand their ‘green' philosophy but when a mistake happens, do what you need to do to make it right to the customer and make that the priority over your otherwise noble environmental goals. The ruined items should have been replaced, INCLUDING the "free" item since I built my order up in order for my purchase to qualify for the free item. And this is all in addition to the fact that I had to spend some time cleaning up all of the other items (and the floor) from their mishap. I asked the customer service rep if a supervisor could please call me back so I could speak to someone else about a resolution and she said yes but no one ever contacted me. VERY unhappy with the Grove and their lack of customer respect. I will not be a future customer and will share my negative experience with others.

Shady!
January 10, 2022

After I received my order, I opened one of the MANY promotional emails sent by Grove Collaborative and checked my account -- and toy amazement, found out that they 'd established a subscription for EVERY SI GLE ITEM I'd ordered. NOT ONLY THAT -- but they had added items to "build" another cart -- which I would buy if I pressed 'Ship". Probably by accident. The other subscriptions would be auto-shipped. There were SEVEN.

And THEN -- in a separate part of the Account section -- I saw that I was enrolled as a "VIP" -- and that I would be charged $20 for that after my "trial" period.

I wásn't aware of ANY of that when I ordered their products. Why? Because that information appears very briefly among the BS blurbs. What they're doing is deliberately just this side of illegal and totally on the side of unethical.

I immediately removed every single subscription and, after some searching and extra steps, was able to cancel my "VIP" status.

Their whole operation and approach makes me want to vomit. And, really, for a "sustainable" company that wants to save trees -- their overpackaging, as well as the whole idea of shipping cleaning supplies -- uses LOTS of trees, and leaves a big fat carbon footprint as well. The products I tried were OK, nothing special. And their concentrates made small quantities of product when diluted according to directio nd -- so weren't a bargain, either.

I learned 3 lessons from this:. READ THE FINE PRINT, DO THE MATH, don't deal with companies that want to be your best friend while they're full of BS. Never again!

Hi Barbara, we sincerely apologize for any confusion about our flexible monthly shipments. Upon signing, we do state that you'll be automatically enrolled in recurring orders, but we understand if you may have missed this. Please note while this is a default setting, your orders can be curated to meet your household's specific needs — you can create your own schedule and manage the items suggested in your cart to add at a frequency of your choice. We'll send a few reminders before a shipment processes so you can make sure you're getting what you want, when you want. If monthly shipments don't work for you, you can also shop on an as-needed basis instead.

In addition, those items were added to your cart because of your Product Subscriptions.

Lastly, every Grove order you make is 100% carbon offset and plastic neutral through our responsible supply chain operations and partnership with Plastic Bank. To learn more about our commitment to a healthy, sustainable future, please visit grove.co/sustainability or feel free to reach out to community@grove.co with any questions or concerns. Thank you.

I love Grove! Highly recommend!
April 5, 2022

Honestly I don't know what the fuss is about on here. And why there's so many negative reviews. Seems like a lot of customer error.

Yes there's a 20 dollar annual fee that you will see if you explore your profile settings like you should be doing anyways. But let's be honest. Normal shipping without that fee is 4.99+ and if you are like me who orders monthly to ever 2 months or so, your saving 10-20+ dollars a year just on shipping. Plus they send you free items with every purchase of orders of like 35 or more. And the more you spend the more expensive your gift is. And I dont know about you but if you are a clean freak and buy what you need you will likely spend that on cleaning products every 2 months anyways. And all the free SAMPLES they give! I'm IN LOVE. I've ordered twice but already have gotten over 50 dollars in freebies so why anyone is complaining about a measly 20 dollar annual fee when you will get, if not A 100 to hundreds worth of free samples and products, I have no idea.
Secondly, yes they set the preferences of what you might order next month and if you don't cancel that, they ship it. But I find it helpful and as if they are kindly setting you up based on what you buy! All you have to do is change it or delete the items after you purchase and hit unsubscribe item so they don't ship it. It's not hard to do either. I didn't receive hidden fees. I didn't get unwanted items because I clicked un subscribe to all of those options. And then a month later when I needed what I wanted, I got it with in 2 Business days. TWO DAYS! Each order, They are fast! Who's complaining about slow shipping? Let me talk to you. This is some quality delivery.
Lastly, each product I've gotten has been quality products, store prices or cheaper, the packaging is beautiful and the sents of the products make my house smell heavenly. And importantly, they clean great! I don't feel like I'm breathing in bleach or toxic poisons like most cleaners. Plus with gas being so freaking high, i don't have to waste my time or money driving 7 miles to the nearest grocery store. It's conveniently shipped to me with sweet messages hand written by Grove and waiting for me when I get home from work.

So again you just have to explore the app and use that beautiful brain you were given so you can figure out the app. There's no hidden fees, there's no random orders, the products are great and you are in control you just have figure that out. Because I don't see a reason to complain or leave anything but a glowing review.

No problems here
November 8, 2022

I've been using Grove since Oct. Of 2020. I see a lot of bad reviews here and have to say I've never had an issue with them. I find their products to be on par with any other non-Grove company. The prices have always been reasonable, and I actually like the auto-ship. I get an email and app notification a week before my ship date, reminding me to make sure my cart has what I need. This has been incredibly helpful because there are times when I don't realize I need something and I can add it real quick, or there are times when I find I have a surplus, and I just swipe to push it to the next shipment.

As far as them adding products to the cart without my consent, I will say that the first purchase I made was everything I put in the cart. The second order (aka the FIRST auto ship order), there were things added, but I believe it was because I was brand new and they were making suggestions. I understand how that is definitely not the best way way to "make suggestions", but I guess it didn't bother me because I just removed them. My mom recently signed up for Grove as well, and she had the same thing happen. However, after that initial time, it's never happened since. Once you have your set monthly subscriptions, they don't try to "be helpful" again, that I know of.

If your order is at least $35 on your auto ship, you get to choose a free gift. If you order $55, you can choose between the $35 free gift, or another gift. If you spend over $99, you get another option, and you can choose one of the three.

As far as the free gifts go, I recently had an order ship, and maybe a week later I went to the app and checked my next order because I needed to add something. I selected my gift, however, by the time that next order shipped, I didn't get a free gift because they had changed the gifts and I hadn't selected one of the new ones. The default option when the gifts change, is "no gift", so it's always important to check your cart as soon as you get that notification that it will ship soon.

Because I can understand how the automatic adding of products to your first autoship could easily be missed and someone ends up paying far more than they intended, and because you can miss your free gift if your timing isn't right, I give the company 4 stars. But I have to say, I've never been upset about their products. I still HIGHLY recommend them. Since the auto adding of items on your first shipment seems to be the biggest culprit in their bad reviews, I think if they stopped doing that, they would get much better ratings.

GROVE IS A SCAM
March 11, 2025

Company had 1) Assumed that I make all reoccuring purchases 2) put products into my cart at the tale end of the buying process and I noticed this from day 1. I wanted to think it was a mistake, but it kept happening. 3) There is no true recourse or response. I called about bad shampoo. They claimed that there was a $30 given back in store credit, but this never happened. 4) There is not any customer service. They don't answer phone calls or any emails. 5) I cancelled and they charged me again, yesterday. So I cancelled my card and am disputing the charge.
