It took an hour to change a reservation. A significant amount of "tax recovery and fees" were added then taken off when I asked what they were for.
Booked a london hotel for £130.77... thought I was booking directly with the hotel... was charged £198.68... The difference was for tax recovery and service fees?!... It did not show up until payment had been taken. Have tried to call to cancel but impossible to get through. Called the hotel who said that the booking was made by Agoda. Rang Agoda who were very unhelpful and said that they had sold the rooms on to getaroom and would take no responsibility. This is a con and they should be shut down... Agoda should know better than to have anything to do with them... shame on them

Terrible! Beware! Will take your money! I booked a $118.24 room online at hotels website. Getaroom hijacked my booking. Afterwards sent me a non-refundable confirmation on my $118.24 Holiday Inn room at $167.14... included state tax (ok) plus $39.15 (33%) for other taxes. How low can you go. Where I come from this is called "non-disclosure, theft, dishonesty, crooked". After reading this, if you become associated with Getaway, you are nuts. Beware! Beware! Beware!
The A/C blew a belt and squealed so sad, I couldn't't stay in the room and they said they had no other room available. The hotel refused to refund the cost because I used Getaroom prepaid. Getroom wouldn't refund because the hotel is responsible. NEVER Again.
On April 14,2019 I used Getaroom.com to book a stay for a friend at The Hotel Pennsylvania, for the days of April 15 - 19,2019 but due to an emergency situation my friend found themselves in not long after, I called to cancel that same day, less that four hours later.
In attempting to cancel these reservations via a Getaroom.com representative, I was told that according to hotel management I could not obtain a full refund due to the Hotel Pennsylvania's policy as it was written.
Below is the Hotel Pennsylvania's cancellation policy I received with my initial reservation confirmation email:
"Cancellation Policy: Each room in this reservation is subject to the hotel's cancellation policy which is: Cancellations before 05/11/2019, 08:00 PM (America/New York) are fully refundable. Bookings cancelled after 05/11/2019, 08:00 PM (America/New York) are non-refundable. Bookings cancelled after 05/14/2019, 08:00 PM (America/New York) are non-refundable. There is no refund for no-shows or early checkouts."
Despite my calling over six hours prior the second cut off time for a refund, I was told I would still be billed $213.48 for one of the five nights as the hotel management would only refund the other four as a "courtesy".
Five months passed, and deciding to give Getaroom.com one last opportunity to make right, I called them a final time today and again requested that they follow Hotel Pennsylvania's policy as it was presented to me, as written.
This time however after speaking with one of their associates, Ms. Meyers, not only did she apologize both for her company's initial response to my query, but upon further investigation was able to process my request again, this time obtaining a refund for me of the $213.48 I was not refunded back in April.
Despite the blatant dishonesty of the management of the Hotel Pennsylvania itself, I would still recommend Getaroom.com to others, especially in relation to the care, concern and professionalism Ms. Meyer's showed toward me today.
I needed a room removed from my reservation. It was handled very professionally. It was a good experience.
We were satisfied with our booking. The hotel room was even upgraded upon arrival. The price was extremely fair for location and condition.
The beds were a bit firm and the pillows far too fluffy for my personal preference. It was also quite humid in our room although the temperature read 68.

Im not sure why these companies want feedback the day after you use them to secure a room... I CAN say the process was easy, but then again... what if I get there and I'm told i don't have a reservation? Better to ask for feedback AFTER I have had secured and stayed in the room I booked.

Be aware that if you search for a number for a hotel you want to book. This company or others like it may come up. You will think you are calling the actual hotel. They will not tell you and will even use words to suggest its them, such as we have a room at one of our properties. Then you book with them at an agreed upon price, you will then get your email confirmation realizing it was not the actual hotel and just a third party who has charged you $100 more than the room price quoted. They will lie about the cancellation fee and bully you hoping you will give up. I had to call the actual hotel, let get a room know i was within their cancellation policy and inform get a room that U.S. law requires 24 hours before cancellation are non refundable before they agreed to refund my money. They refused several times to let me speak to a supervisor and lied that there was not one available. All this was in hopes that I would go away and they would make a big profit from me. I am not saying this all out of anger, just do not want others to go through what I wen t through. Yes, if you call them and just book a room and are fine with being charged 35% more than the room price or dont notice, then your experience with them is fine. But do not try to cancel because the bullies will come out.
I booked a room at the Best Western Hotel and Convention Center in Lawyon, OK 6 weeks in advance of my Grandson's BTC graduation. The reviews online for that hotel were good. When I called to make reservations they automatically connected me to this third party booking company, which I wasn't even aware of. I had made reservations for 4 days originally then called and extended for another day. They immediately withdrew the full payment from my account both times. When we got to the hotel, it was horrible! There was mold and mildew on the walls and growing on the windows. I am highly allergic to mold. We went to the desk to cancel the reservations, they didn't seem to be surprised or bothered. By that time, I was already having problems breathing and my throat was getting scratchy and my voice going. They said I had to go through the 3rd party to cancel. I had to get out of that building so I went outside, After waiting on hold for 30 minutes, the girl cancelled out reservations but was rude, and very unprofessional. She said I had to wait 7-10 business days to get my refund. Here I am in a strange town, 1800 miles from home with no place to stay and limited funds because my hotel expense was already paid for in advance. Now I have all those funds unavailable to me and no place to stay! This was unexceptable! I had asked to speak to a manager and she told me "the manager is just going to tell you the same thing". When I insisted she allow me to speak to a manager, she the manager is in a meeting and hung up on me. What a nightmare! That's a lot of money to be designated and prepaid for a vacation hotel only to find yourself with limited funds and trouble trying to find another place on short notice. I had to have a family member back home transfer some money to my account so we could get a place to stay. Never again! This was embarrassing and humiliating to have to ask for help from family while I am supposed to be on vacation. Totally ruined our vacation!
I needed to change my reservation from one hotel to another and they were very helpful. However, I needed to tell each person I spoke with to slow down. I could understand them but they all were talking too fast! Must be from NYC. LOL

9/14/19 Update to original complaint:
I am revising my rating from 1 star to 3. Representatives for GetARoom emailed and called the next day and apologized then offered to refund all fee's above the quoted room rate! The refund posted a few days later in my account. They followed up with emails to confirm I was taken care of. This was beyond any expectation I had, thank you. Just a bit of constructive criticism: you wouldn't get complaints like mine if all applicable fee's were disclosed BEFORE the transaction is completed. Thanks for the satisfactory resolution.
Googled the actual hotel's name so as to avoid booking agencies. I discovered, too late, that this sneaky agency bought the domain name of the hotel so I THOUGHT I was booking directly with the hotel and would only pay the room rate and taxes, nope. Was shown a price of $69.00 so I clicked on "reserve now", was charged $119.97! For taxes and FEES! (normally taxes are about $12-$15 above room rates in Georgia so was expecting about $85.00) Non refundable and no cancellations of course. Sorry chump, you trusted us so No take-backsies! You fell for it, you lose! I will forever be on the look out for this POS agency GETAROOM.
Pay attention when booking a hotel room directly with your desired hotel. When clicking to book your room, a page for Getaroom.com will open without your knowledge & you are led to believe you are still on your desired hotels page to book. It wasn't til our event we were attending was rescheduled & we called our booked hotel that we were informed that we had a non-refundable rate & had actually booked through Getaroom & that we had to contact them. Getaroom was no help at all! We even asked if we could move room to another weekend. NOOOO! Was the answer. I would NEVER tell anyone to book through them... they WILL take your $$$ & run. Once again make sure you are NOT on this site when booking.

Charged almost $100 in booking charges on a 2-night stay at a Holiday Inn Express. Their Booking Fee wasn't disclosed until payment was made. Nearly impossible to reach a live person when wanting to cancel. The GetARoom.com Rep refused to cancel by stating that Holiday Inn Express does not allow for refunds on cancellations, when in fact it does with only a 24-hour notice... I was giving 3 weeks notice! Kept me on hold for 15 minutes while "confirming" the cancellation policy with Holiday Inn Express, then put me on hold another 5 minutes while their system generated my cancellation number. Horrible company to do business with. STAY AWAY!
Answer: They are not ethical. For me, they used a website that appeared to be the actual hotel website, did not identify themselves when they should have, and did not mention booking fees while they charged a 30 percent booking fee for a room that was its normal price. They were supposed to cancel charges on my credit card and did not. STAY AWAY!
Answer: They are a site attached to Trip Advisor---- if you see them on screen while trying to book a room-- hit cancel. I'm out over $150 because of their fraudulent cancellation policy.
Answer: Thought I was booking on the actual hotel sight but was deceived in as much as it was Getaroom. Talked to someone else also staying at this hotel at the same for about a third less. Called them right back and had already charged my card and it would be up to 3 weeks to refund. That's about what it took but did get refund. Then checked reviews and no one had anything good to say about getaroom. Go straight to hotel sight of one you know and trust or stick with something like Travelocity.

There's something very deceptive, if not illegal, when you start off on a hotel's website and when you click Make a Reservation, it somehow transfers you to the GetARoom site without your knowledge. I had no idea this was done until I received their email confirmation. I'm thinking of contacting my state's Consumer Protection Div. Of the AG's Office to file a complaint when I get back from vacation.

Answer: Wow. This is one bad company. Made a reservation and then needed to cancel. They gave cancel date all along. I called to cancel on that date and was told that date was only for 1 minute of date they told me. I was supposed to forfeit one night's cost. Luckily I made reservation on AMEX and they'll tell this fraud company to get lost. Moral of the story: make reservations through hotel.
