After 2.5 months I finally got a refund.
Booked a room in what I thought was hotel website. When the confirmation came through I realized it wasn't the hotel and a fee was added. Canceled immediately. When the money didn't get refunded, I called only to be told there's a. I refund policy! Was told to contact the hotel, they never received the money and I'd have to deal with the service. 3 times I've been told I'll get a refund. 2 months later no refund and now no reply to my emails. Time to call a lawyer. $470!

A week prior to My reservation, I requested to move my reservation to the following week. With sources like hotels.com or direct through the hotel this would not have been a problem. Getaroom stated they have a zero cancellation, refund or transfer policy. However I am certain they are able to cancel with Hilton at zero cost to them. They are pocketing $. But it is the first time for everything and being burnt by this establishment! It never happen to me again. I will never use nor recommend this service to anyone.

We were on the road and about to stop for the night. I googled pet friendly hotels and chose a hotel on the list to see if they had a room for the night. I thought I was calling the hotel reservation line but ended up with a Rep from Getaroom. He had to do a lot of research to see if they had a pet room available but I was trying to be patient. That should have been a clue for me. He quoted us one price and then later in discussion, it went up to higher price, but thought I attributed it to the pet fee. Turns out that my receipt was from Getaroom and the $50 in extra fees were not specified on the receipt except to say "Tax Recovery Charges & Service Fees" US$49.08 We had to pay the pet fee at the hotel. I will be much more careful in the future!
UPDATE: I did receive a $30 refund in response to my complaint. I am still not happy with their business model of including their reservation number in the website so it appears that you are calling the hotel chain. If they have good deals, they should be upfront as to who you are calling. Perhaps you can get deals when you go to their website directly. I added a two stars for trying to make it right.

It looked like I was looking through Kayak.com for the night of travel at La Quinta Inn and Suites by Wyndham in Redding, Ca. When I received the confirmation right after booking, I saw they booked me for the wrong night, and they were not Kayak.com. I called the customer service number immediately. After leaving me on hold for almost a half an hour the representative said they were unable to contact the hotel and there was absolutely nothing he could do. I had no place to stay that night AND would be charged the full price plus tax for a room less than 30 min from making the reservation!
I slept in my car with my service dog on the side of the freeway in a rain storm that turned into a snowstorm.
They immediately charged my account for $106.00. A REAL BOOKING AGENCY DOESN'T PULL THIS SNEAKY STUFF. CROOKS! Add my name to the huge class action lawsuit that is being brought against them for deceptive advertising and cancelation policies.

Paid £130 for a room for 1 night. I arrived at the hotel and they said the hotel is fully booked, as was every other hotel in Swansea. I had to sleep in the back seat of my car. I had an awful night with no sleep!

A very helpful customer service employee called me 1 hour after writing my review. She is going to review my original phone call and get back to me this week. In the meantime, she did refund me the ridiculously high hotel fees (she agreed they were a lot higher than normal). I updated my rating by one star until my case is fully resolved. I really appreciate her quick response.
I never write poor reviews because I just like to praise places I really enjoyed but I feel like I need to let people know about how this company will scam you out of money. First of all when I called the number, I thought it was the actual hotel I was wanting to stay at (not a third party company). I was calling to see if it would be worth the extra $20 to do the buffet since it might just be a grab and go situation due to Covid restrictions. The rate I was calling about was around $117. On the hotel website it was around the same price (under $120). I asked if they did a AAA discount and he said their rate was the best so I just went ahead a booked over the phone thinking I was talking to the actual hotel. Well after I get the receipt emailed to me I realized it was through a third party and that they charged me $179 per night and the hotel fees were around $176!?!? How are the fees as much as one night stay?! I called customer service and they only offered me a 15% discount which was a slap in the face. I asked them to talk to a manager but she said she would file a complaint for me. I asked them to listen to the recording of my phone call with the original guy to see that I was not aware they were charging me $179 per night and that the hotel fees were as much as a nights stay. No one has gotten back to me about going back to listen to the original phone call. They did confirm that they will be refunding me the 15% but again I feel like that is not good enough since I was WAY over charged. Please be careful when you see this company. They are non refundable as well so this is how they get you... once you realize you have been scammed then it's too bad because they say that you are locked in. I have learned my lesson and will never use getaway.com again and will be more careful when calling hotels on a google search of the hotel I'm looking for. We did get to stay at the hotel but at a ridiculously inflated price.

Answer: They are not ethical. For me, they used a website that appeared to be the actual hotel website, did not identify themselves when they should have, and did not mention booking fees while they charged a 30 percent booking fee for a room that was its normal price. They were supposed to cancel charges on my credit card and did not. STAY AWAY!
Answer: They are a site attached to Trip Advisor---- if you see them on screen while trying to book a room-- hit cancel. I'm out over $150 because of their fraudulent cancellation policy.
Answer: Thought I was booking on the actual hotel sight but was deceived in as much as it was Getaroom. Talked to someone else also staying at this hotel at the same for about a third less. Called them right back and had already charged my card and it would be up to 3 weeks to refund. That's about what it took but did get refund. Then checked reviews and no one had anything good to say about getaroom. Go straight to hotel sight of one you know and trust or stick with something like Travelocity.
Answer: I'm definitely in. There's something very deceptive, if not illegal, when you start off on a hotel's website and when you click Make a Reservation, it somehow transfers you to the GetARoom site without your knowledge. I had no idea this was done until I received their email confirmation. I'm thinking of contacting my state's Consumer Protection Div. Of the AG's Office to file a complaint when I get back from vacation.

Answer: Wow. This is one bad company. Made a reservation and then needed to cancel. They gave cancel date all along. I called to cancel on that date and was told that date was only for 1 minute of date they told me. I was supposed to forfeit one night's cost. Luckily I made reservation on AMEX and they'll tell this fraud company to get lost. Moral of the story: make reservations through hotel.
