More than one issue.

The worst custoner service. I have had 2 incidents with this greedy company. Use any other booking site. Booking.com is much better. They charge extra to change or cancel even if the property doesn't and wont refund a reservation made a month out for the wrong night even when it was their site that reset the dates. Terrible company.

First I went to make a 1 night stay as I was traveling across country. I opened a second window to check another location and when I went to pay for my room it had reset to Christmas eve. This was only day after Thanksgiving. When I got to the property, they didnt have my reservation so I called Expedia. They would not cancel or refund my booking so I had to pay again for a room I thought id already paid.

On a second trip I wanted to extend my trip in Portugal an extra 2 days. I contacted the property a week before the reservation and they said this was fine to contact Expedia I did and they said I would have to make another booking instead of extending. The price I originally paid was 60 euros a night to extend it would be 86 euros a night. If the property agreed to the extension, why are they not compiling with their wishes. Just greedy.

They stole my money
February 27, 2018

After booking by mistake to that place i cancel within a minute and receive an email that confirm my cancellation without penalty, it was a lie and after 2 months i still did not receive my refund of 300$ and that is a lot of money, understand that i did cancel after 1 minute and receive confirmation of my cancellation but still Expedia kept the money pretending that they send me a refund and it's not true they never produce any proof even after 10 emails asking for a proof of refund they just stop answering me and never refund me, they keep the money

I never ever had a problem with hotels reservation in my life and Expedia as stole my money from me

The most despicable hotel management i have ever encountered in my life

Stay away it will be better for you Expedia cannot be trust with your credit card they just steal from their clients.

This is the 2nd time I've booked through Expedia and I have had bad experiences both times. The first time I had a long lay over and tried to change it before my trip and they said they could not help me unless I paid over a thousand dollars so I'm had a 9 hour overlay stuck In an airport over night.

Right now I checked my itinerary and my return flight is different from what I clicked on and I've been trying to call, I've been on hold for an hour and 15 minutes and someone finally got on the phone and put me on hold again without helping me with anything! I am so angry right now and I will never book through this site again I'm still on hold right now and I don't even know if they are even going to fix the problem, let alone if anyone ever gets on the phone! NEVER AGAIN!

PSA. NEVER EVER USE EXPEDIA TO BOOK ANYTHING

We booked a prepaid hotel for a course we had to go to this weekend. It was cancelled and we cancelled the hotel through Expedia. I had originally paid insurance in case the hotel got booked so we could get our money back. When cancelling I had to put a claim through with AIG who takes care of the insurance. I was denied my money back. It says right in the paperwork that if there is a pandemic then you are covered. I called and was told that because the pandemic was started before I booked that it wasn't covered as I was aware there was a pandemic when I booked. This is bull$#*!. The reason I took the insurance was because there was a chance it could be cancelled due to the pandemic. So they will not refund me 2 nights worth of hotel costs plus the money I spent on insurance. I plan to take this further. It will not stop here. But lesson learned, NEVER DEAL WITH EXPEDIA.

EXPEDIA PRICE SCAMS
December 21, 2015

I will NEVER use Expedia again. I bought a flight from Quito to the Galapagos for $168, which I thought was a great deal. When I was about to leave the Galapagos, LAN charged me ANOTHER $168 to leave because Expedia sold me a ticket that was only for Ecuadorian citizens. LAN's tickets clearly say on their website that the tickets at that price are only for Ecuadorian citizens, but NO WHERE on Expedia's site when buying the tickets does it say that only Ecuadorian's can buy them. Therefore I was stranded and had to PAY DOUBLE to leave. I could not afford to go at the more expensive price and would have not have gone if I had known. Expedia will not help me out at all and claims it is an "additional fee" from the airline, however Expedia sold and American citizen, unknown to me, a ticket only Ecuadorian's can buy and I had to pay out of pocket. This is absolutely ridiculous. DO NOT BUY FROM EXPEDIA!

Very unhelpful, had many attempts to get my ticket cancelled due to a medical emergency. I first called Expedia to try and cancel. The agent put me on hold for over 2 hours, and told me I need to contact the airline myself. I contacted the airline, and airline told me to contact the third part agency to cancel. It is just going in a loop. I messaged Expedia on Facebook, and it's not helpful as well. After two days of waiting (because Expedia told me that they need to contact airline during business hours, and I had to find a 24 hours customer service phone number for the Expedia agent to contact China Southern Airline - this is how unknowlegable they are) the agent told me there is no way to cancel the ticket. Which is ridiculous, so you are force to lose the ticket even due to a medical emergency. I am sure this will not happen if i book directly through the airline. I will give Expedia a -10 star if I can. Never gonna book through them again, even though I have some point with them, I would rather lose those points then losing thousands of dollars on my tickets.

This is company is the absolute worst traveling company to deal with. Just remember they are just a middleman for your travel plans, and will never take any responsibility for any problems that occur. My first experience was when my fiancé used them in 2014 on a trip to Europe. We were stranded in France at the airport for 14 hours because they didn't book the flight correctly. We got engaged in that day and was a total disaster. 2021 I hoped things changed so I decided to use them again. This place was in Atlantic City and once we walked in we could see this place was a dive. It was infested with bedbugs, blood on the sheets and the bathroom covered in p*** and s***. They took no responsibility and never got a refund.
This time around my friend is getting married so I booked a hotel in the poconos. It was suppose to be paid when i arrived at the hotel, but took the 489.000 instantly. I called the hotel and the customer rep said they would not charge any fees. Expedia still refuses to give me my money back. Two hours of dealing with their horrible customer service. Please do not use this group to book a vacation. If people gave reviews it is because they had no issues, but if there is an issue they will leave you stranded. Looks at all the groups of people they have screwed over. Go directly to the hotel, airline, or car company. These guys charge fees and don't help with any situation.

This is my last experience with Expedia. There are plenty other airline services out there. Three days ago, I received an email from Expedia indicating that the first leg of a one stop trip that was already paid in full and confirmed, had been canceled. They indicated I should call Expedia if I did not make this cancellation, which I did not. I called Expedia and waited on the phone for 1+ hour to finally speak to someone Who could help me. They corrected the flight. However, the next day I received the same type of cancellation notice on the first portion of my airline travel ticket. I called again, and since it was late at night I asked to speak to a supervisor. It took 1+ hour to reach the supervisor and another 2 hours for him to try to help me. He reinstated the flight, but there was no confirmation email and no ticket number on the arrangements. I tried to cancel everything the next day because of my uncertainty and they charged me all cancellation fees. Basically I received $194 credit from two different airlines and Had to pay a $400 cancellation fee. Expedia took no responsibility for their overbooking error. I spent 5+ hours on the phone over 3 days. Time is money and they made no compensation at all. I will not return to their service. In addition the manager who I escalated to head no empathy at all and just read the policy without care, customer care should be called customer screwed.

To company to avoid
November 30, 2022

I used Expedia to book a flight from Catania, Italy to Boston Massachusetts. My wife and I sat together and booked the flight making sure of our options. We choose a flight with Lufthansa with 1 stop and included our seats with the booking. During the process, we received a message that seat assignments were not available and I would need to call the airline to select. The following day, I tried using Lufthansa's website to select seats and cancelled the process when it wanted to charge me $90.00. I called Lufthansa and was told I had to pay for my seats assignments. I told them I had already paid for that and was told I need to speak Expedia.
When I called Expedia, I either wanted my seat assignments or cancelled the reservation. The agent I spoke with was not able to make the assignments and asked me for proof of purchase. At this point I was tied of wasting hours of my time and requested the reservation to be cancelled. The agent gave me a hard time telling me I was outside the window for cancellation and that it was 10:00 P.M. in Italy. What does Italy have to do with this?
This was my first-time using Expedia and the experience was not a good one.

Hopefully, this helps someone!

I was excited about Expedia because a couple of my friends work for them as software engineers, and I like to support their company, but this will be the last.

Expedia has a price match guarantee on hotels, which I thought was nice and I booked a Vegas hotel through them a couple months ago. Well in the recent days this Vegas hotel has lowered its price significantly, and Expedia's policy states, if you find it cheaper you will receive the lower rate, and a $50 Hotel credit for your next trip.

I was rejected for the lower price (From a competitors website) and submitted another claim, this time FROM THEIR OWN website which the hotel is now listed as $100+ Cheaper, and of course, they have not responded in 10 days.

I reached out to customer service and they refused to give me the credit, but they said they would cancel my old reservation and book a new one for the lower price. That would be fine and dandy, except your policy clearly states that I deserve a $50 Credit for my next stay, and they said they absolutely would not give me the credit.

Seems like this is just another scam to me.

I accidentally booked wrong date and called within 5 minutes to cancel. I was told no problem. When I did not get a confirming e-mail I also canceled on line. Even through on the web site they except cancelations and will refund. THEY CANCELED THE RESERVATION AND CHARGED THE ENTIRE CHARGE EVEN THOUGH I CANCELED WITHIN FIVE MINUTES. I have spent many hours trying to get my money back with no luck and lost over $1,200.00! People are from South American country and I heard other callers while I was on hold going through same thing.

If you are just looking to book a flight on a major airline, Expedia is fine. On the other hand if you book a vacation package... well, pray you don't have any problems because the customer service (although professional sounding), doesn't cut it. My letter to Expedia after my trip: "The plane developed problems and was diverted to Manaus, Brazil. I contacted Expedia 6 times for a total phone time of 7 hours to resolve the problem... never resolved through Expedia. I had to use another travel site to search alternative flights and then I contacted the original airline to reticket me. Long story short, I lost 20% of my vacation and went through hell to get there. Expedia proved to be worthless for helping me get to my destination. They gave me one suggestion that would have had me stranded in Bogota Columbia for up to 3 more days on standby for a flight to Cancun. Not a viable option for a family vacation! My ground transportation was also cancelled last-minute. No alternative transportation was made and I was left to iron out my own travel details. Bottom line, I lost about 750.00 for lost time at the resort and ground transportation. Instead of looking after my rights, Expedia was begging the airline for what they would be willing to do. When I called the airline I was assertive and gave them flight alternatives to get to my destination in the quickest manner. I was rerouted through MIA and arrived the next morning." Bottom line, although the seem professional, at the end of the day the lipstick has worn off!

Bait and Switch!
August 6, 2016

I went to Expedia's website to book a last minute flight (next day). To my surprise there are two red eye flights for $170.10. Upon "selecting" these flights, the price jumps to $900+. I work on e-com, so I understand "mistakes" happen. I go back to the select a flight page and low and behold the same price for two flights! Assuming this is a problem, I call customer service. Customer service explains that the system didn't update. I have the customer service agent try and book the fight. The customer service agent gets the same result. I then ask to speak with someone who can make this right. I'm transferred to "Carlo" who attempts to explain that the prices are updated in real time. I explain that if it's updated in real time, then I should see the real time price before I hit "select." At this point it's been 40M and the website is still doing the same thing! He explains there is nothing he can do. He precedes to sell me on the much higher flight. I tell him it's a bait and switch and he says it isn't cause the website gives an error. Even as I write this, the website still has the same situation going on, and it's been well over an hour.

I booked a flight and hotel through Expedia. Charged for 2 people. E-mailed itinerary has 1 person in it, but the price and what appeared on my credit card statement is the 2 person price. Tried the same deal again on Expedia just to check, same price for 2 people, not 1. Called customer service. Asked me to forward the itinerary. She said she couldn't do anything because my itinerary only has 1 person on it... but it also has the price on it which is the 2 person price. 1 hour later customer service had to escalate it because she doesn't have the authority to go against the itinerary. They'll get back to me in 2 business days.

UPDATE: They never got back to me. Response to another e-mail said the same thing: My receipt said $(2 person price which is way way too much for 1 person) for 1 person's worth of tickets, so there's nothing they could do. Do not use Expedia. The website will scam you out of what you paid and after hours and hours on customer service they will never ever fix it. Save your money by using another company or booking your hotel and flight directly with the appropriate companies. It's not worth it to save a few bucks here and there and then lose several hundred dollars and several hours when they screw up and refuse to pay for it.

They and Orbitz were at least initially owned by the airlines themselves, and so they are the worst sites to get discounts. Or refunds. Go to the airline site directly, for the best deals.
