I have been an Expedia user for over 15 years, so why the bad review? I like the app for easily finding cars and flights, but when there is an issue, that is when their service falls off the rails. Try to use your airline credit - impossible. There automated chat service will eventually get you to a person, who will either be unable to help or request you call in. When you call in you could have 2 plus hour wait. No problem - they will call you back, and be equally unhelpful. When there are no problems, Expedia is good to use. Problems happen though when you travel and that is when you find it would have been much better to have worked direct with the car rental company or airline. Money is a one way road with Expedia. They will do everything they can to never refund you and have every reason not to. Drop the convenience of Expedia and just use the airline, hotel or rental company direct. Maybe Expedia will get the message and start providing customer service, but I would doubt it after seeing this trend for well over a decade.
DO NOT BOOK WITH EXPEDIA! Idk why I allow them to screw me over again. I booked 3 rooms for 3 adults and 1 child. Expedia, booked me for an executive suite (1 room) which by the way wasn't an option when I booked (internationally btw). The rooms are non refundable and the hotel refused to waive the fee and rebook the 3 rooms. Now I'm forced to book 2 additional rooms at nearby hotels because of their error. I will seek legal advice because I'm positive this is illegal for them to do. Never will used them again.
I was enticed by the low prices of the hotels, but after giving them THREE chances, I will NEVER use them again. The hotels were sub-standard and in horrible neighborhoods (I'm a Marine Veteran and I was afraid). Once you pay, you're stuck so you either have to stay there or pay for another room. One hotel told me, upon arrival, that I had to pay $10 "upgrade" for a non-smoking room. Another time I was given the choice of either a smoking room or second floor (no elevator and I'm handicapped). I got in the room and the a/c had been off (over 90º outside). I turned the a/c on full-blast, but it was still hot in the room for hours. The third room had a hole in the wall that was "filled" with wadded up toilet paper and the sheets were threadbare.
Buy a ticket is a nightmare with this company. You do everything correct but they said oh error but f take your money with no permission of you. I have like 11 transaction they took my money how they want to f you. This afternoon they charge 2 times from my bank but no statements apear. This is real and I'm so mad because a representative who answer from his home tol me ah! Maybe your card has a lock! Silly guy then why took my money. I travel international and this time this company is treating my family so bad. I won't stop until this company reemburse a my money. Tucker's don't take money when the transaction is not completa buy you. This will be the last time will deal with Expedia I want any pan y you took from my bank acct and next time should have a better service.
Booked a flight with the, Montreal-Vancouver. Because of circumstances out of my control I had to postpone for 24 hours. Called expedia, was told no problem. Booked me on same flight 24 hours later. I call my furniture moving company and have them scheduled to move everything out the morning of my 6PM flight. Everything goes well, apartment is empty, return my keys and go to the airport. This is June 2nd. Arrive at airport, get in line. When I get to the service counter I am told that I'm not booked on any flight. Customer service from Expedia forgot to hit the enter button to confirm the flight. Got on the phone. They couldn't get me on the flight for 24 hours. I had nowhere to go, nothing to eat, nowhere to sleep. Spent the night in the Airport and all of the next day till my flight at 6PM. Called them for some type of reimbursement, and received nothing but an arguement. They shouldn't even have a license or any affiliation with any Airline.
I have tried to book flights and hotels from other sites but they are too complicated. Expedia, makes it simple. Sometimes its a few bucks more than others, but the simplicity is worth it.
Horrible stay. Expedia is hard to contact. Hotel was not as promised. Paid for what I did not get. BBB next or a refund. Broken toilet. Horrible staff with 0 help. Mold in room. TRASH
Gave me a very hard time about changing flight time but finally did after much complaining. Will consider using them for checking prices and then direct booking through the airlines.
Very poor support even though they have pretty good deals quite often.
Once you make a reservation through them they are not that willing to help anymore...
Lucas was amazing phenomenal and helping me with everything! The best service I ever had in my liFe
Thank you very much Lucas! Because people like u I'll keep buying from this company.
Its useful. Its not super cheap or super expensive. I use it to save time. 3.5 star is about right. For specialist travel sometimes other places are better. I've never had a problem with Expedia.
Here is a pro tip about saving time and money:
Never order tickets, or anything, with Expedia.com
I booked a flight with them. They misspelled my surname by changing the place of two letters. I called... and called again. Two weeks, four phone calls, four departments and 6.5 hours later (in total), the name on the tickets has yet to be changed. They are after my money, you see. The flight cost 900+ dollars. If they can convince me to cancel and re-book the flight, then they would only refund 300 dollars. Brilliant eh? I have spoken with Helen, Ashley, Alex, Andy, Elton, Maria, Reggie, Paulo and Elsa (most of them 'senior representatives' or 'managers'), from whom I got no less than four different 'case numbers' and countless false promises. They also never call you back, though they promise to every single time at the end of each conversation. All I ever got from you were excuses, and blaming Swiss airlines for your own poor service.
SHAME ON YOU EXPEDIA!
You did not just lose a single customer - you lost every single person I will ever speak with about online ordering of flights, hotels and car rentals.
BEWARE OF EXPEDIA! If this is what I had to go through at home, just imagine how awful if you are stuck at an airport. Never again.
By the way, I have all 6.5 hours recorded. It is like slow torture. Worse than watching politicians on TV.
They show you different prices based on your location, at least that's what it looked like to me.
I only used them three times so far, will think twice about using them in the future.
I've learned that try expedia but also try searching yourself. Often you can find better deals. The hard part is knowing how to look for them though. It does take practice.
Had an ongoing case with Expedia about reclaiming tax for cancelled flight. The customer service has been a joke, both over the phone and via email. Do not use this company.
Today in went to trivago to book a room at advertised price of 104$. When I went to view deal - it transferred me to Expedia's site where there was no deal for $104 but way more $259. I then called the # on the advertised site, was on hold for over an hour! And was told by supervisor Edwin that he could not explain the price or what dates the $104 pricing was for. No logical explanation provided. I ttied to explain airlines/retail honored the incorrect price when they errored but travago and Expedia refused! Scam, bait and switch... Very disappointed
Its very similar to many of the other travel sites. I think it because they often offer deals I cannot get else where. For instance, I booked a room in Cabo and they gave me $50 off. Pretty good!
I always prefer to find some new good offers before booked tickets for my voyage and everytime Expedia provides the best rates comparatively to the other sites like trip advisor etc.
Had trouble when reserved a vacation package here. On the airline, it booked me as a standby without telling me, and I almost got bumped from the last leg of my flight. Never using this site again.
I attempted to book a simple one night hotel stay using the Expedia website (expedia.co.nz in this instance).
First problem: the website altered my booking dates to something completely spurious (not a typo!). I noticed this before submitting, changed it back and then sent off the booking. Expedia's automated booking reply acknowledged the booking but confirmed it was for spurious dates again!
Second problem: despite multiple polite communications via their customer services website and their phone number over two weeks, and despite having direct email communication with the hotel agreeing to alter the dates, nine different Expedia customer services representatives have been involved and zero progress has been made. The Expedia complaints online form has repeatedly given an error message rather than submit my subsequent complaint and the customer services people refuse to escalate my concerns.
Therefore it is impossible to deal with this company if it makes a mistake. Since this mistake seems to have occurred after submitting a booking request digitally, this means that there is no redress and no way to advise fellow travellers to be careful. Our money is lost and yours would be too.
We will avoid Expedia from now on. We suggest you do the same since this experience has been frequently reported in web forums internationally over several years!
Answer: You were lucky to get through to anyone at all at Expedia. I've spent hours and hours and hours over three days trying to get through to anyone on their customer service phone line, their chat line and their e-mail, all to no avail. They really owe their customers much better customer service.
Answer: Demand to speak to a Supervisor though you better have time because it will take anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours. Once the Supervisor does nothing or little to nothing to resolve your concern, ask to speak to a manager. Get ready to really wait. DO NOT ACCEPT THE "WE'LL HAVE A MANAGER CALL YOU WITHIN 24 to 48 HOURS" When you figure out you don't matter, sit down and right a review!
Expedia has a rating of 2.8 stars from 1,604 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Expedia most frequently mention customer service, credit card and next day. Expedia ranks 15th among Travel Search Engine sites.
