I booked an Air Canada Vacations package Hotel+Flight from Ottawa to Liberia and staying in Hotel esplendor in tamrindo, Costa Rica. When we returned to Ottawa via Montreal, Air Canada cancelled our flight during the night of February 7th 2017. We tried to get Expedia to help us get the refund of the cancelled flight between Montreal and Ottawa but they told us that it's up to us to complain to Air Canada Vacations directly. Off course Air Canada and Air Canada Vacations kept finding excuses and playing with us like a ping pong ball. This is terrible for Expedia to take the money and not fighting for the right of its customers. AVOID USING EXPEDIA OR YOU ARE AT YOUR RISKS AND PERILS. Expedia is not a customer friendly company.

EXPEDIA, ARE THEY FOR REAL?
If you have respect for yourself, you would not use this company. They deserve zero stars, but this option is not obtainable.
A friend of mine had purchased the ticket in Toronto. From Toronto to Vienna for 3 people. In retrospect I am just looking at the numbers and I am just comparing. One ticket via EXPEDIA was $680. The taxes for that very ticket were over and above this price, to be exact, it was $851.66 = 125.24%. Because of the emergency situation at our destination, one person had to get back home as soon as possible. Directly from the hospital. You are in the situation you never want to be, since in your underwear and no access to the telephone you are in hands of good people. Expedia is not your friend, It is a money making operation you want to be far away as you can be from it! The Expedia showed no flexibility at all. No merci, no willingness to help to that one person. A new ticket in Vienna had to be purchased. $200 dollars in tax was added to the cost of the ticket, Not $851! I did not go deeper, but IMHO the difference is huge! Also the tickets in Toronto wee purchased weeks in advance, this one in Vienna was purchased one day before the flight! Obviously we are dealing with some kind of racket here! I do not have the needed experience in ordering any flight tickets, but this alone example teaches you not to use a middle man! ….That the Expedia clearly is. I ended up loosing the money I spent on that ($680+$851.68 = $1531.66) Expedia ticket, due to the absolute inflexibility and unwillingness to help by the people from Expedia. They did not reimburse or return me a one cent from that amount! (= $1531.66). So there you go. Also: With the 125.24 % added to the original ticket price your make your own deductions here!
On the other hand you should ask yourself, how is it possible that in the G7 country you have these parasites making money on hard working Canadians. Small mortgage lenders, loan shark loans, credit cards with 28 % interest are another money grabbing parasitic companies in our beautiful country. This is a clear sign, that we were sold by our politicians and I believe that every politician voting for it in the past, should be still responsible. No time limitations here. Their properties should be nationalized. After the court all of them should go to jail.

Poor Customer Service, and unreliable with credit card information- Should make you run away from them. I booked hotel with them for 5 nights with my canadian credit card and on expedia.ca and the hotel is in canada and the price shown is in CAD. But guess what, They charge the credit card in USD and I get dinged by 85CAD. Because the exchange rate that they used was crazy by any means and obviously the creedit card charges 2.5% on top for foreign exchange transaction. I called their customer support and the poor guy there ran back to helpdesk 3 times and all they could tell me was that they are sorry those were the exchange rates that day (0.795 USD/CAD) on Oct 22nd. I don't know where they get that data from but it is probably a month out or more. They were just lying. So the solution was to cancel the reservation and rebook. I agreed but now I have to pay the new price for the hotel. Funny enough there was not much difference but why should I pay for their mistake? Customer support guy calls the supervisor who refused to come on the phone and pretty much told him that ask this customer to F off :)) I don't have time for this. To summarize - I don't trust them with my credit card. I don't trust their customer service and they don't give a $#*! about their customers either. Reservation is cancelled, I will book elsewhere - there are plenty of vendors available. Too bad i cannot delete my account with them, but definitely never using their service ever again.

Please see below an email that I received - this was the 2nd or 3rd such email since January 6 2022 when I requested a refund. This email was received on May 9 2022.
Please also note a promise to have a supervisor call me within 24 hours.
It has been 384 plus hours since this email and still no call back.
Today on May 17 2022, Expedia again promised that I would have a refund by June 13 2022 - the "reason" this time was that the representative did not submit the request in MARCH for a refund by mistake - I have talked to other reps since March and none have said this?
Good luck to you if you plan on using EXPEDIA in the future. I give them 2 stars, 1 for existing and 1 for answering the phones!

AWFUL SERVICE LIARS
April 21, 2021

ZERO STARS IS MY RATING
Awful waiting time early April I was on the line the whole day no one answered, left a message for a return call and received a call back late evening.
I was told I would receive an email confirming my refund in a day or so. Over one week has gone by and nothing received.
They are raking in billions and when it comes to compassion to reimburse customers who could not travel due to covid-19 nothing has been done.
I received a single letter last year indicating we are doing our best to advocate for a reimbursement... sure sure, not a beep.
SHAME ON YOU EXPEDIA hotels.com, TRIVAGO, etc all the same bunch of crooks.
It took me hours just to get to the right persons ended up in Egypt Thailand USA and finally someone gave me the right number in Canada, when it should be clear on the itinerary where to call.
A bunch of crooks stay away deal directly with the airline and hotels.
All they need to do is a create a portal on their website like Air Canada did, where you provide your reservation and name and get your refund.
Instead they make you waste countless hours on the phone to frustrate you to give up
SHAME ON YOU EXPEDIA AND ALL YOUR COMPANIES ABUNCH OF CROOKS

Expedia allows scammers on their platform and does not vet the retailers on their website. I rented a car through Expedia for a trip to Mexico. Could not find the car rental company from the airport when we arrived. They are called NU car rental but they went under another name when we arrived (Americana). That was suspicious enough but then we were told to pay for a taxi to get to the car rental place from the airport, usually there is a free shuttle service. Finally, get to the car rental company and they said we need to get insurance from them in order to release the car even though we already had our own insurance with multiple credit cards. In addition to our reservation fees, we needed to pay another $525 USD to get the car. Needless to say we were not going to pay that so it ruined our trip because we were left there with two young children and no means of transportation. All our plans had to be changed because of this and we could not find another car last minute in a foreign country. When I contacted Expedia they said there was nothing they could do and that companies were allowed to do this on their platform. How is this acceptable? To see a price advertised and agree to it, make reservations, and then get there to find there are HUGE hidden fees that were never disclosed. What kind of business practice is this? This should not happen to travellers. It's really unethical for Expedia to advertise these companies on their website and then profit on the backs of unsuspecting consumers. I contacted Expedia several times for the past 3 weeks, only to be shuffled around and promised phone calls from managers. Expedia is a trusted website and it should take some responsibility for the retailers they advertise on their platform, but so far they have taken none. That car rental company is still advertising on their website despite informing Expedia.

Do not waste your time and money with this company. The little you save is not worth the aggravation down the road. We purchased 3 seats from Barcelona to Toronto, paid more for advance seat selection & the cost of the hotel. When everything was cancelled by the airlines due to covid, the lengthy process to get the refund began. If we had booked directly with the airline, we would have had the refund promptly. However, after MANY hours on the phone with expedia & then 3 months wait for the refund, I received a refund for 1 of the 3 tickets purchased. I called again and was advised by Expedia that it was a decision made by the airline to only refund 1 ticket. I called the airline and they confirmed in writing that they had only received a request for 1 refund. Expedia is a. K. a. Outright Liars. I went back to expedia who this time said it was an oversight on their part and issued yet another case# and said they would take care of it all. It is now almost 12 weeks after (the time period to wait for a refund) and nothing so I called again & the csr said there was no record of this last request & said he would leave a new case# and have a manager call me within 24 hours. We are now on Manager #3 and a year into this. If anyone knows how to reach an executive at Expedia.ca please let me know. Not sure if this will help and being deceitful is a corporate trait that usually starts at the top. I hope this review is read by many. As noted above, RUN don't walk away from this company and all it's subsidiaries. If you don't know, as of today, Expedia now owns Travelocity, Orbitz, Hotels.com, Hotwire, Trivago, CheapTickets and eBookers, among others. Buyers BEWARE!

This was the worst idea that I have ever had! NEVER USE THIS SITE EVER
It is a HUGE waste of time... they did not put in the right info that I gave to them and told us we had no way of accessing our conformation number for our hotel that they had already taken off my credit card ($200) and told us that we were lying about our info (pretty sure i would know my name, email, and phone number) THEY wrote our info down wrong after a 30 minute call that you could NOT understand a word they were saying to you (and repeating myself 5 times and they still got it wrong)! They refused to let us speak to the manager and had NO way of helping us resolve this issue at all! They were VERY VERY ignorant with us on the phone kept telling us we were lying. VERY frustrating... Super fast and easy way to look up great hotels for a great price... BULL****! I am a VERY understanding person but this was way to much to deal with! Rudest conversation from a "costumer service rep" I have ever had.

SERIOUSLY VERY PISSED OFF WOMAN!

I recently had an incredibly frustrating experience with Routes Car Rental and Expedia that I feel compelled to share. My interaction with Routes Car Rental started with the disappointment of not being able to pick up the car I had reserved. Despite confirming my reservation and calling ahead, they failed to have the vehicle available for me at the airport as promised.

Not only did I waste precious time waiting for a car that never arrived, but Routes Car Rental's customer service was utterly disappointing. They seemed indifferent to my predicament and refused to provide any assistance or compensation for the inconvenience caused. Their lack of accountability and unwillingness to rectify the situation left me feeling incredibly frustrated and dissatisfied.

To make matters worse, my experience with Expedia, the platform through which I made the reservation, was equally underwhelming. Despite being the intermediary between the customer and the rental company, Expedia did nothing to mitigate the situation. They offered no support or alternative solutions, leaving me stranded and without transportation.

As a customer, I expected better service and accountability from both Routes Car Rental and Expedia. It is disheartening to encounter such a lack of professionalism and customer care. I strongly advise anyone considering renting a car through Routes Car Rental or making reservations via Expedia to think twice and explore alternative options.

I hope that by sharing my negative experience, other potential customers can be informed and avoid the frustration and disappointment that I endured. It is essential for companies like Routes Car Rental and Expedia to realize the impact of their actions on customers and take steps to improve their services and customer support.

If you can find a deal on a ticket through Expedia then that's cool, good for you. But be well warned, if you have any issue that requires their support you may find yourself very disappointed.

I made the mistake of buying a couple plane tickets that I needed changed. I contacted the airline and they had a policy that allowed tickets to be fully refunded within 24 hours, and were also happy to make the requested changed.

However they could not because the ticket had been purchased through Expedia and they directed me to speak with them.

And for the record Expedia clearly states their policy is that they will not add any charges for any changes to tickets, and will defer to the policy of the airline.

I called Expedia's support line, explained the issue, and then was put on hold while they tried to call the airline. After waiting a while I was advised the airline (that I'd just spoken with) weren't answering the phone.

Okay. A little odd.

I was advised that "offline support" would take over resolving my case and I should expect to hear back from them within 24 hours.

I never heard back from them.

I sent Expedia a couple more messages requesting an update and support.

I submitted the form to escalate the issue. According to their site they "review it and contact you within 72 hours".

I never heard back from anyone at Expedia. I have no idea if they tried anything but they certainly never tried to assist me.

We bought a second pair of plane tickets from another airline directly and had to leave our tickets unused. Complete waste of money.

Do not use Expedia if you can help it. You will be far better off going directly to the airlines and hotels. It may be a bit more work to research, but the cost is the same if not better. And most importantly the customer service is worlds better.

Expedia didn't just fail us with their customer service, they abandoned us altogether. We were their customer, we paid them for a product that could not be used. They completely disregarded their policies.

There is no excuse for that.

I booked a hotel room in Japan for 2 nights for 3 people in July, 2022, through Expedia. The original booking was from September XX to XX, 2022.
At that time I was not aware that Expedia charged to my credit card for the room charge of JPY106,098 at the time of booking (I actually think it is not fair to charge right away when the booking is made).
The next day, I had to cancel the booking, so the room charge was refunded.
When I checked the credit card statement later, I found out that Expedia charged CAD1,044.61 when I booked the hotel and refunded me for CAD970.24.
I understand that they used the exchange rate at the time of booking and refund. However, the transaction date for the initial booking and refund was the same date. I don't understand why the exchange rate Expedia used for booking and refund is different so much even though the transaction was done on the same day. It means that I paid CAD74.37 for the hotel I didn't stay. It is a bit too much to consider it as a handling charge. I feel like I was cheated. I feel that the way Expedia treated me is very unfair and dishonest. I would NEVER use Expedia again. And I will recommend my friends and family NOT to use Expedia by telling them my experience with them.

We booked our dream retirement trip through Expedia. It was canceled due to Covid. We received flight vouchers on AeroMexico and were told by Expedia we had until May 31,2020 to book and Nov 30,2020 to travel (see attachment). We asked Expedia to send AeroMexico a request for travel extension due to Covid. They said they did, but AeroMexico has no record of this. We then tried calling Expedia's Customer Service to rebook our flights starting in early April. We weren't able to get through until late April after waiting on hold for 14 hours! Expedia then told us that AeroMexico had gone bankrupt and there was nothing they could do. After talking to AeroMexico, we called Expedia back in early May to tell them they had given us incorrect information because it had not gone bankrupt AND we had only had until April 30th to rebook NOT May 31st. Ao, by this time, the tickets had expired. We called Expedia numerous times over the next month, waited on hold more than 50 hours, talked to Supervisors, and were told Expedia had made a mistake and would honour our tickets but would have to submit a claim to Expedia Customer Service. We did that and received an email telling us that the tickets were expired and there was nothing they could do! We are now pursuing a legal route.

I have used Expedia.ca in the past and found it to be pretty good. I had booked my next trip in May 2015, going to Hawaii the first two weeks of December 2015. On their website you HAVE to buy travel insurance, it's automatically added to your cost. When I lost my job in November 2015, I was forced to cancel my trip and went through the travel insurance to claim my fees. For whatever reason, the travel insurance company is located in the United States, for a CANADIAN website, and somehow, takes forever and a day for regular mail to get there and back. After a month of waiting since I filed my claim, I emailed them to ask when I could expect to hear from them. Suddenly they decide they need further information as to the length of my employment, in letterhead from my former employer. Sorry, it doesn't work that way in Canada; your Record of Employment is filed electronically with the government once severance pay is gone. So, after waiting another couple of months to get my ROE and mail it in, explaining how this is done in Canada, I receive an email from them that I'm getting a refund and my cheque is in the mail. Why it is not being sent by registered mail or courier to have me sign for it and ensure I get it I have no idea. Five weeks later and STILL no cheque. I email them about it, explaining my frustration of now waiting five months and still no refund and all they say to me is they can put a stop payment on the first cheque and throw another one into the regular mail. Are you kidding me? Still no registered mail or courier to ensure I receive it and in reasonable time? Just another cheque to blindly throw into the regular mail and hope somehow this time I actually get it? I've heard that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, hoping to achieve different results. I've filed a complaint with BBB. Hope I can get some results with them.
