This site offers an wide range of objects, from fake jewelry to Porsches. Beware the scant information offered on size, condition, and material something is made of. Also, they don't know what Art Deco is, so search for that style knowing you're going to get a little of everything.
I do not regard this online auction company has good transparency! Their customer service is incredibly poor and irresponsible. The after hour people who answer their calls all have the same answer for any of your questions: "I don't know, call back during business hour." Wow, my dog could have told me this. If you must bid on this site, make sure you nail down the shipping cost and leave them with no room to increase it without your permission.
What a phenomenal place to find interesting items! Outstanding customer service along with attention to detail on their website makes this a great shopping experience. I highly recommend searching anything you're looking for!
I'm a good customer, But happens that I had 24 items on my trade, bidding, called my attention that in a matter of 5. Minutes. All my 24 items were over bid
Only some one with control from inside can see my profile. I did not like that. I feel cheated.
Take care when identifying the object you are bidding on. The auction site cannot be "all knowing" any more than a live auctioneer can be an expert on all types of glassware, pottery or antiques. You must use your own expertise and research as you are bidding and assume the ultimate responsibility. I have been very pleased with the items I have purchased although one item was lost and never received and 1 purchase delivery was delayed to the point I was afraid it was also lost. This is a fabulous way to have an eye on items across the nation that I otherwise would never have seen nor had a chance to bid on or to own. Most of the items I have purchased have been delicate in nature (glassware) and I have had no damage whatsoever!
I am a fan of antique jewelry and I really love shopping on EBTH.com. They have a lot of great items and often at great prices. Unfortunately, the delivery option they often use has proven unreliable. Out of about ten items ordered over the past 6 or 7 months, two have been lost in the mail. I am particularly upset about the most recent one, a pair of irreplaceable victorian earrings. The worst part about these items being lost in the mail is that when you contact EBTH about it, they will tell you they can't do anything about it until it has been 30 days, at which point they will file a claim with FedEx and send you a refund. So twice I have been in this waiting game position of being without both product and money, and would have really preferred that EBTH make an effort to track down the missing items rather than force me to wait until they were lost forever and then issue a refund.
Until this practice is changed, I will no longer spend more than $200 on EBTH.
I have purchased a few item from this website so far and have been completely happy with my purchases. I will most definitely be buying again and have recommended it to a few people as well. The only real draw back is the added time at the end of the auction.
Great site. Happy with purchases. But the delivery times are so slow and especially in light of the high delivery fees. Example: bought a small purse for $79. Delivery fees came to $20. And the item took forever to get here.
Increasingly weary of this business. I've been a seller and buyer for years (my bidder # has 4 digits) and for at least a year now or is it two...what is it with all the 'lab created diamonds', Threshold brand furnishings, kilim pillow covers and pallet drek? Who are these sellers loading down the auctions with this stuff? Is it EBTH themselves as buyer and seller? Why would they cheapen their site like this? Used to be a great place for Estate sale items and good second hand furnishings, but no longer. It may be time to hang up my four digits as EBTH has seemingly adopted a new business model that is a loser IMO.
I have ordered several things from them because they really do get some great luxury fashion items! But the last 3 times has taken over 30 days to receive the items and I had a Louis Vuitton handbag sent in a box with no packing not in a protective bag or anything and the box was crushed and torn! They are very slow when responding to inquiries and customer service basically doesn't even answer your questions or address the issue! I am currently waiting on a key chain that they took my money ($320) over a month ago and I still don't have a delivery date! The expedited fee is added without your knowledge so they can extract the money somehow faster from your credit card and it's done on all transactions unless you link your checking account directly for them to debit!
As I said before if there is a way to reduce shipping or reward toward next purchase. But overall everything I have gotten has been wonderful. Even when one item came broken from shipping I was fully refunded quickly with my claim.
Their shipping costs are outrageous as everyone here points out.
They don't answer emails when requesting info on an item won but not delivered.
They do not honor their end of the auction rules, but if you make a mistake they will not retract your bid even a lousy $2.00 one. And charge you $7.79 for that crappy $2.00 item you did not mean to bid on.
I spent 10 minutes waiting for customer service to answe me on this big issue and the kind young man apologized profusely and told me he would escalate the issue and would take 3 days, well m Amex card will honor me in a jiffy.
Stay away from online auctions they rip both sides off.
Be very, very careful with these people. Their shipping costs and mysterious sales taxes are not even close to being fair. It is such a shame because this could be fun. They consistently make errors and charge at least triple at times. I would urge you to stay far away.
Recently bid and won a cedar chest. Even though the warehouse charge is robbery. Drove 2 hours to pick it up. When we got home we took the drawer out and it was in pieces. One side was split also.so I called expecting a courteous professional resolution. I've was called a liar and told the piece was not damaged by the folks who moved it. Please! Do they think I made it up? I've bought many pieces and none have really been as described as far as condition goes. Don't waste your money. In the beginning it seemed as good as ebay but has become a company destined to fail because of outrageous shipping charges and poor customer service. Don't be tempted you'll be sorry!
Mixed feelings. Sometimes they ship promptly. But one time their shipper took a month. They're customer response ranges from good to poor.
As other have written there is no rhyme or reason to shipping.
This is a company that may depend on several contract workers across the country outside of Cincinnati.
But there are many glitches in the functioning of their operation. Over 2 weeks before readying an item for shipping is not good. Not responding to customers is bad. Shipping costs which are all over map, especially when paying very high shipping for a shipment that takes a month leaves a sour taste in the mouth.
This is a terrific idea. But I know of buyers and sellers who have decided to not work with this company again. Too much hassle cuts into the potential profit.
Purchased an item 5 weeks ago. Still have not received. Was charged $400+ for shipping alone. Awful customer service. Would not recommend to anyone. They claimed 8 weeks was standard. Sorry, but if you are charging that much for shipping, it should arrive at my doorstep the next day.
Carefully watch what they are charging to ship your item. What should cost $10-20 will run $45+. This is really ridiculous. And, when you buy multiple items that could be shipped together (as they come from the same vendor/place i. E. paper art in a tube), EVERY piece has over-charged shipping costs. The company should NOT be making money on shipping. Very disappointed in what I thought was going to be a great auction site.
Bought many many items- many showed up broken and had to fight - but some great deals so stuck with it. Always carefully checking shipping rates and would only bid on pieces with reasonable rates. Bought pair of prints for 360- shipping came back at 300- emailed disputed rate given new rate- paid- 3 1/2 months later no prints spoke with customer service- refunded shipping, but not auction price- claimed we violated the 7 day payment window - we were waiting on adjusted shipping cost. Horrible, horrible dishonest experience
I have purchased several items from them and haven't had any issues at all everything was as described. It is the shipping and handling fees that are totally absurd, they want $31.53 to ship one coin to Georgia, the state not the country.
Bought a silver gravy boat--condition listed as "good-tarnish". When it arrived, it had seven dents, a severe crease and all three legs were pushed up into the body with one leg being so bent, the gravy boat could not stand level. I returned it as I said they had a misleading description. They refused to return my $$$ and sent the piece back to me. So I overpaid for a piece of junk. Basically scrap. There needs to be some way of rating performance like on eBay. Keeps everybody honest. Hmmm... maybe that's why they don't have a rating location.
Answer: I am just got through selling items through EBTH, and it has been the worst experience I have ever had. They grouped many expensive items together because they thought it was in the best interest of the company not the seller. I am also currently seeking legal council to potentially file suit against the company for fraudulent business practices. They didn't even give me a copy of their so called "contract", that I had to sign and send in with my items, until there was only 1 hour left in my sale. They left out the most expensive pieces I sent in and didn't sell them at all, didn't find out why until sale was over. As if all this weren't enough, they took real diamonds from the items I sent in to sell and replaced them with "white sapphires". So needless to say, they're probably about to get hit with a heavy lawsuit!
Answer: I have filed with the BBB and IC3 for internet fraud, and I am writing the Attorney General of Ohio. These guys make the used car salesman of the 60's look like saints. The products are marginal, and the service i mean customer service is non-existent. I also filed a fraud case with my bank, because for 3 week I got the run-around about them shipping the item, I never got it, and they said they couldn't return my money. Not true! In the United States, keeping the money and keeping the merchandise is illegal. Don't let the technology and glam of the website fool you, they are deceptive, dishonest, and you get the 'EVERYTHING BUT WHAT YOU PAID FOR.
Answer: Just to let you know ebth customers and consignors are dropping like flies. The arrogant company just terminated nearly 300 employees and closed markets in many states. That means its not growing, its failing.
Answer: I've not sold with them and never would. I've read the responses from people who sold items with these people and if you would like to be ripped off, then by all means go ahead. You'd fair much better by locating an auction house in your area. My experience with this particular bunch of thieves is on the buying end. Photos do not show the big picture, if there is a flaw in any item it will not be in the description and most certainly will not be photographed. The exorbitant shipping charges are insane. I'm not sure if as a seller you would see any profit from shipping, my guess is it goes right into their pockets. This is a very dishonest bunch from top to bottom. Please find a reputable dealer to sell you cherished items, I cannot stress this enough.
Answer: I bid on a pair of Swarovski Crystal Penguins. I was unaware that the larger Penguin was supposed to have a "tail" at the back. It's difficult to see with the cutting of the crystal so I only noticed it when I saw another like item and it had the tail. I closely inspected and can see what I thought was a cut in the crystal is really not smooth and is where the tail should be. The item was delivered on May 12. I put in a claim on July 2 and the company is standing on their 30 day return policy even though they listed as good condition and it was not broken in the box, I've spent thousands of dollars at their site and probably would have continued. The customer service individual refused to let me speak to a manager and just kept repeating the same thing. Now for 134 dollars, I am done with ever buying another thing. Not a good way to run a business. If they are going out... it's no wonder.
