Wow! In reading the other reviews, it sounds like people were their own worst enemies and didn't follow their simple procedures. Don't get fooled by their short sighted reviews. They treated me perfectly! I was looking for a very hard to find engine for my Land Rover when I was referred to CarMonkeys. I am so happy that they took the time to help me get just what I needed. We had been emailing back and forth, but I decided to give them a call. They were very patient in making certain that I got exactly what I needed. I was without my vehicle so they offered to ship it directly to my mechanic as well. This was a life saver for me. It's nice to know that they quality test each unit before shipping and even send pictures of your shipment so you can see their quality! From the time I ordered it, until my mechanic received it was only a few days. My Rover was back on the road within a matter of days and it's running amazing! A week after my vehicle was finished, they followed up with me and wanted to make sure that everything went well. I could not be happier.

Bought engine to an 05 Tahoe and purchased the extra 5 yr warranty totaling around$1400! Called when after 2 months of getting engine installed I heard, knocking and was told they do, nothing about noises so after it broke down I sent proof of a faulty engine from certified mechanic as requested. I still have not received a phine call in return only a couple times were my emails responded to! I have been, more than, patient seeing as its been years I have waited! I was with no car for a long while and eventually just ended up buying another engine elsewhere! Horrible customer service worse experience ever!

Telephone: perpetual hold. Mailbox always full, so no messages can be left. The one time I got through (after hours), ready to purchase his advertised motor, he said, "I don't know that we still have it; it has been on the shelf at least 9 years. I'll call you back tomorrow." That was 2 weeks ago. I've sent 4 emails to contact me with NO RESPONSE. Their extension 18 & 19 is parts, but they don't answer either. These guys must be fronting for something else.

Sir, I asked the after hours team, they advised that the recall this question and response, you were told in fact the part has been on the shelf for 9 years and is unlikely it was still available as our inventory rotates rapidly, it is unlike anything would still be here from 8-9 months let alone 9 years it was simply never removed from the system. You then asked the rep to call you back if we did have it in stock, which we do not and this is why you were not called back. If you wish to provide me with your phone number I can locate the recorded call and send you a copy as well.

We purchased a rear axle for our rodeo at the end of May. We received it promptly. However, after discovering that the axle was the wrong one, we contacted car monkey to remedy the problem. 6 weeks later, we are still fighting to even get replies from them. We have emailed several times in addition to calling many times. We consistently are given the run around. We are so frustrated as this has put us several weeks behind schedule getting the vehicle running. So fed up with this battle! Do NOT buy from them!

I paid 1280$ for an engine for an old truck i have on 1/18/19 and didn't receive it until 2/1/19 with bare minimum tracking information. When it arrived at my house it had rust and i realized it was missing the exhaust manifolds and the timing belt cover which is a big deal not to mention i will jave to drop another 1000$ just to get it running, so i called carmonkeys and they said "Its a thirty year old engine what do you expect" I said i expected to get everything i paid for! They said the best they can do is refund my money but I would have to pay a 200$ shipping fee + another 200$ for a restock fee. Definitely will NOT recommend ever!

John S. – CarMonkeys Rep

I reviewed the calls, you are not a mechanic and are installing this at your home. You were unaware the policy states if the exhaust manifold cannot be separated from the catalytic converter it cannot be sold with the motor, as it is ILLEGAL to sell used catalytic converters in our state. We offered to ship you a timing cover since it was misplaced during the inspection. You refused.

I have called for weeks and so has my mechanic, only to be put on hold for ever then it rings and hangs up or all reps are busy leave a message. I've even emailed and got no answers! Paid 1029. 99 for engine that worked 2 months and now nothing

This customer emailed us about a warranty claim we responded asking for documents showing the installation as well as the diagnosis of what is wrong, she waited 16 minutes after the first email to write this review. This order was also placed in Nov of 2018, it is now April of 2019. We find it hard to believe the motor only lasted 2 months.

So, i posted a review of what happened and (finally) carmonkeys responded. Ill definitely add a star cause at least they did, and they seem to actually want to try and help now. I bought a transmission from them, and (at first) a rep said they werent going to help me for my previous review, which i stated doesnt make sense, cause if anything he should want to try and make it better. Well, another rep responded on this site saying theyd like to help, so ill definitely at least give them 2-3/5 for better customer support

However, i still havent gotten either my transmission or the $700, so there is still that. Hopefully everything will be sorted out

I am sorry you had this experience, however, we do not sell rebuilt units, the units we sell are run and tested recycled parts with warranty. We cover the shipping cost out to a customer if a part has shipped the customer would be responsible for the return freight. The restocking fee is applied to recoup some of the cost it took to run, test, prep, and ship the part ordered. We would like to check into this and verify the order, if you can call in we will gladly assist you in locating the order and the refund.

Next time, this fraudulent company ought to pay the premium for fake reviewers that actually know how to punctuate their contractions. It's called an apostrophe, fellas. Your fake reviews would flunk any 2nd grade grammar quiz. "Im" sure you can rebuild engines about as well as you can punctuate. :)

Refurbishing a '94 Isuzu Trooper. Purchased a rebuilt engine from these gonifs. After installation, 2 of the 12 valve lifters were inoperable, costing $2,600 to repair. Both refurbishing company, and the mechanic, have gotten nowhere with Kevin Harrison for reimbursement. Next step: Get lawyer involved as I will not stand for thievery. Kevin- do the right thing, I will immediately revise this review. There it is.

We do not sell anything refurbished or rebuilt, we sell run and tested used parts with a warranty, it clearly states this on the website, Kevin has been working with you on this but we see the demands were unmatched as we asked for documentation of installation and estimate of work claimed. Please contact Kevin directly to process this warranty claim.

We did not sell you a "moter" and if you return a product you may have been charged the return shipping and restocking fee? But you would have had to agree to that before a return happened. We are a little confused by this review.

You don't even deserve a 1 star rating. Rude and very unprofessional. The man said he didn't even care if I got my refund back. Beware of this scam artist!

Thumbnail of user johns1023
John S. – CarMonkeys Rep

This customer attempted to defraud the company and is angry that they were caught. They placed an order waiting until the shipment was preparing to ship and filed a chargeback, the shipment was stopped and a refund in full was issued. The company would rather not risk losing the $2200 motor to a pair of scammers. They even tried to convince the company that since the one customer was a nurse she would never do such a thing and we should just send the motor. Their argument was laughable.

Is more like 2 to maybe 3 weeks cause I still haven't received anything. Customer service is HORRIBLE. They make you wait on the line and after 20 to 30 minutes they just hang up on you, no accident because I've call several times and the same thing. The only thing I hope is that when I do get my engine I have no problems with it. NEVER AGAIN!

I contacted the BBB and the Department of Consumer Affairs(2 different states), and they have refused to respond to either. So, I am now down the almost 1k bill for the motor, plus warranty, that i bought from them. On top of the almost 2k i paid to have the motor professionally installed.

We are all confused here as we were never approached by anyone's lawyer. All motors are pressure washed before leaving it is likely some of the water seeped in as we pull the valve covers for inspection as well as the oil pan. I believe part of this review maybe made up as our legal dept has not heard of any law firms reaching out.

I purchased a 1980 Oldmobile 350 Vin: R engine. Engine came late and what I received was a 1977 350 that was rusted out with slug caked in the heads with broken manifold studs. What makes matters worse when I called to tell them about the situation the person their told me that they didn't care if the got business and all we have to do is take the motor apart and clean. They also said as long as I got a comparable engine its all that matters. Which would ending up voiding the warranty. So I filed a complaint through paypal for my refund. They are the worse ever...

Sir, you've called us today about refund and we gave you the shipping address where to ship your part back. The only comment we had was that this is used part for 36-year old engine - not rebuilt and not new. It's removed from a running car and it may not be clean. Everything else is your emotional narrative that we have nothing to do with. Please calm down and return your part if you don't like it.

I purchased a transmission for my 4 wheel drive Durango. What clinched it for me was their 12 month, 30 day refund, guarantee. The transmission arrived in good time, my mechanic put it in, whoops, it had problems. I called car monkeys and the very next day they shipped me a replacement. It arrived in 3 days and I couldn't be more pleased. It works perfectly. My Durango hasn't run this smooth in years. I highly recommend them. They stand behind their product and honor their promises.

I'm blind so I'm not saying that I couldn't have made a mistake but in the order form at clearly said Chevrolet pickup 3500 I will send a transmission for a motorhome the staff refused to talk to the transmission shop in Reno Nevada so it is much more worth it for me to eat $1,000 and just buy a new one here. You definitely won't have me darkening their door again.

Thumbnail of user johns1023
John S. – CarMonkeys Rep

After looking into this, the transmission sent did come out of a motorhome, however, it was the same transmission that came out of a Chevy 3500. The customer let us know of the situation and provided a number to the "shop" when we called the number there was no answer. I am unsure why the customer is stating it was worth it to eat $1000 when he never returned the part and could have gotten a refund. This sounds fishy. Also we never knew the customer was blind however this does not change anything and is irrelevant to the sale.

Their claims on the site is bogus plus having one of their customers service representative talk to me like I was an idiot. I was told the exhaust manifolds wouldn't come with the engine if the catalytic converters couldn't be removed. The last i checked there are no catalytic converters between the manifolds and turbo on a 7.3 powerstroke. In turn it cost me about 900 dollars move than it should have to buy an engine from them and put it in.

Thumbnail of user johns1023
John S. – CarMonkeys Rep

You reached out to us months after placing an order, we would have replaced the exhaust manifolds had you asked. You simply told us you had already sourced them, the rep was giving an explanation as to why they were not there. As far as the extra money you claim to have spent, we would have required the manifold gaskets to be changed anyway, you could have used the existing manifolds from your original motor.

I purchased one engine-they bought it at B&R Auto Wrecking in Oregon-and then just shipped it to me- pocketing 400.00 for no reason.- I needed to return it- 1500. 00 return freight fee. Engine was only 859.00- In short- they will take your money. Cut out the middle man- go online to B&R autowrecking directly- save lots of money. Poor return service- definitely NOT Hassle free. (B&R can be found on ebay also)- I found out to late- don't make the same mistake!

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE ORDERED WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A GU2 REAR AXLE AND RECEIVED A GT4. CANNOT RUN THE 4WD TILL I GET THE MATCHING RING AND PINION NOW. CALLED AND WAS TOLD THEY DID SEND THE WRONG PART AND DIDN'T EVEN HAVE GU2 AXLE I NEEDED. OBVIOUSLY PULLED THE DIF COVER, CAN WE NOT COUNT OR WHAT, MONKEYS IS RIGHT, WOULD NOT SUGGEST BUYING PARTS FROM THESE PEOPLE.

Thumbnail of user johns1023
John S. – CarMonkeys Rep

We agree this axle was for a 1980 model GU2 when you had called we looked up and verified the wrong part was sent out, upon further investigation due to the age and location the correct part was supposed to be in we found that this axle had been sent, we offered a full refund and free shipping of the incorrect axle back, the customer stated "That aint gonna work, I will keep this axle" We explained the ratio was incorrect and did not want to burden him with this task of having to regear the front axle on his truck, again offered a full refund and offered free shipping back. This customer chose to keep the axle. We attempted everything to make this right. These mistakes are not common and happen few and far between, we are truly sorry the wrong part got sent out but we did offer a 100% money back option, you simply declined this.
