The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily concerning its review management practices and aggressive advertising tactics. Many users express frustration over hidden reviews, perceived extortion for advertising, and a lack of genuine customer support. Positive aspects are scarce, with some customers appreciating the platform's potential for connecting with local businesses. However, the overwhelming sentiment reveals a distrust in the company's ethics and practices, leading to calls for accountability and transparency. Overall, the feedback indicates a critical need for Yelp to address these serious concerns to rebuild trust among its users.

Last month I had 196 straight five star reviews showing and now I'm down to 119 reviews with 201 not recommended reviews! I've been keeping close track of what time my reviews are being removed and it's happening every morning without fail between 4:30-5:00 a.m.
I've been paying $1050 every month for the past 4 years and nothing has come close to the insanity that's happening now. I think the reason why this is happening is strictly because of greed and they want more money. Yelp, what goes around comes around and you're going to lose a lot of customers and money in a very short time! I can't wait for that day to happen so you can feel the pain what you're doing to your customers!
NOTE:
When I asked Yelp if all reviews are the same for all different businesses they said yes, I abruptly said no that's not true and said why do some restaurants have up to 6000 reviews and only 50 not recommend? They never have an answer for that question!
""Check out restaurants with high reviews"" and you'll see they have a very low percentage of not recommended reviews.
Their Algorithm is BS and they should shut down their business until their software is fixed so that all businesses are treated equally! If this isn't done then I seriously hope your stocks crash and you go out of business!
UPDATE: 12/11/18
10 more reviews filtered in 6 days! 109 Reviews showing and 213 filtered. At 65 years old I'll never be able to get theses reviews back because it took me over 3 years. In just over one month yelp has filtered 87 straight 5 star reviews. Was 196 reviews, now 109. Yelp is a fu. Ing disgrace!
I was surprised to learn anyone can review my business and even when someone mixes up my business with another, Yelp won't remove the review because they say that was the person's experience. But it wasn't. The problem is with another different business that the person got mixed up. But i'm stuck with a bad review. And then they randomly remove 4 reviews with 5 stars and keep the incorrect ones. I've pointed this out and appealed it. They have no one to talk to unless I want to pay them money to advertise. Yelp has a poor model
Yelp is definitely not a neutral format to share your own personal feedback or experiences with businesses. Many business owners are allowed to report legitimate reviews and choose which ones they want to send to the not recommended section. Those that pay a premium for their advertising on Yelp have this power and those that have a free listing do not. Anytime you contact Yelp, they will lie and state that this is just not true. Explain this, how can they allow these same entitled owners to post positive reviews for their own businesses?!? This proves that Yelp is becoming obsolete and hopefully another platform emerges that is not so flawed and where owners cannot manipulate their customers' reviews as they see fit. Or worse, chastise them publicly for posting their feedback in the first place.
Yelp has made itself completely unreliable due to the algorithm that screens reviews and hides most of them as 'not recommended'. They also refuse to remove fake bad reviews and actually bring them to the front, in order to hurt the small business and pressure them to pay high fees, or actually ransom.
I have 20 reviews of 5 stars, all valid and honest from real clients, but they're all hidden as 'unrecommended'. Recently, someone (maybe even Yelp itself) posted a fake 1 star review on my business. There was no name, only initials, that are not of any client I've had. The review was online one line, no info on what service was provided or what the alleged bad experience was. Obviously nonsense, frivolous and with no merit. I reported it but Yelp decided to keep the fake review and bring it to the front, possibly in an attempt to make me pay their ransom for removing the bad review and publishing more of my good reviews. Completely unreliable, dishonest, unethical and even illegal (slander and defamation).
I paid for Yelp advertising for a few months but then stopped, as it was not cost-effective. People do not take you seriously when they see you only have two reviews. I also find that potential customers who inquire through Yelp often focus on low prices, without considering quality and qualifications. I have wasted a lot of time and energy responding to inquiries, corresponding and trying to explain. But if Yelp users only care about low prices, I better look for quality customers elsewhere.
Watch YouTube videos on 'The Billion Dollar Bully' and you'll see people using words like mafia, scam, fraud, extorsion. It is much better to write and check reviews on Google Maps. They post reviews as they are, with no nonsense bias, screening and hiding. Over time, businesses get many reviews, and the rating shows what most people think.
Absurd, terrible, customer service is non-existent. We had a few (3 or 4) 'recommended' reviews that had eeked thru the terrible filtering system they have for reviews. And 15 or so that were not 'recommended'. (although all of them were real) Today, all of a sudden, those 3 'valid, recommended' reviews disappeared and are now not 'recommended'. I just called and spoke to an idiot, no explanation, trying to get me to advertise, telling me how great Yelp is. STAY AWAY!. We advertised one 'quarter' with them and saw NO increase in client calls. - They are terrible and the customer service is absurd.
Yelp has no real system to find out if people are even customers. Then they remove reviews from actual clients that give real and good feedback
Having been both a Yelper and business owner, I will have to say that Yelp uses the most random and arbitrarily biased algorithm to screen out "fake" reviews. I stopped writing reviews because mine would just disappear into the bit bucket, making an occasional appearance on the surface before disappearing again. My reviews were well thought out and real, but somehow yelp said they were fake?
As a business owner, every single review of my business is in the bit bucket. They were all written by my customers, who I know. But somehow they are fake? Also, their advertising is a big waste of money. You can't even pick keywords, you just need to fork over vast sums of money and trust them. Ha! Don't!
I am a professional kitchen designer with a high level standard of work ethic. Contrary to mine, I would say Yelp's is at the bottom of the barrel. I contacted them about my ONLY 1 STAR review on line and their obvious omission of my other 5 STAR reviews. I am in shock as to how they portray my business on line by refusing to "recommend" my other 5 star reviews on their site saying they "weren't reputable" as deemed by their "software". Wow. What has our business media world come to?
Once they get you signed up they send you a bunch of garbage leads then they say you owe them 300. They try act like it you that's not converting the leads. The thing is... it's because the leads are not good. I convert leads for full time income and it's easy. With Yelp it's like pulling teeth. You get scammers on the regular. I told yep the only lead I received was a scam they did not care. They take advantage of small business and it's not right.
I wrote a review on Yelp that appeared for over a year, and then Yelp removed the review based on a so called "conflict of interest". Reality, the review was negatively impacting the subject of the review (a college), and the college with its government backing had Yelp remove the review.
So ask yourself, how many reviews submitted to yelp are actually displayed on yelp. SO if you read 10 good reviews on yelp, you have to wonder how many negative reviews did yelp refuse to post.
I had a customer put me on yelp and gave me five star reviews. After through the last couple of yrs I've continued a solid five star status until a couple weeks ago. I had a customer give me a one star. Short story long we had an agreed price but after the work was completed she decided it was too high. After three months of billing her on her delinquent acct she posted a very malicious review. I responded with a well worded and well thought out response and stayed professional the whole time. After that she completely erased and reposted an entirely different review. I reached out to yelp for help did as they asked in order to have it reviewed. Not knowing that there review system is a program that reads algorithms And certain wording. No help there so I resubmitted it again so a person would review it. Well they didn't like that. Not only did they leave her false post they also deleted my response. I reach out to them and Adam informed me " I'm not customer service and your not a customer. Customers pay us money and you only have a free acct." So it went down hill from there. They kept bouncing me from one number to the next until I found out that the numbers all go back to the same call center. I spoke to Billy and immediately realized that he and Adam must be sitting in the same cubicle. He refused to let me talk with anyone else and hung up. So this is the service you will get with them. Unless you pay money. Also I tried to remove the account all together and they won't let me. I would like to ad that I have five stars on every other site. So it's not an issue that this is a problem with my business.
My business got to 5 stars reviews about two weeks ago, but THEY decided to removed because I'm having too many good reviews. I called them and they said it is the software ( so the software decided to removed reviews with more than a three months been public). At that time also they said "maybe because the customer has not a profile picture ( liar because I have reviews without profile picture)", maybe because is the first time that this customer wrote a reviews on yelp (liar because I have some first customer reviewer). Finally, I decided to stop paying to yelp any service... result they delete 9 reviews in less than 10 days...
Why so negative reviews? I'm going to share my experience with you. I tried this thing, I marked 10 places where reviews was 5 stars. And guess what, all of those 10 places were actually worth of visiting. So stop with these negative reviews
In one way it's worth to reat that Yelp, but in the other it's not. Because there's lots of fake reviews and comments. Nowadays you should trust people from Facebook or Instagram.
Horrible for My Business - Yelp claims they have a software that sorts out reviews according to the recommended. Our business has 19 reviews, all great except for one and that's the one and only review Yelps software recommended on their website. What happened to the other 18 five star happy customer reviews that are not recommended and why? Be aware before doing any business with Yelp!
I wanted to leave a good review of an Urgent Care Center I had gone to, where I received wonderful care. Before I wrote the review, I looked at all the reviews of Yelp itself and was amazed to see that so many businesses and company owners were saying that Yelp is deleting their business' good reviews, letting obviously fake reviews stay, and altogether getting worse and worse as time passes!
Then I had trouble even finding how to write a review myself!
I thought, "why should I even post a review on Yelp when so many people are giving bad reviews? So I'm forgetting about putting a review on Yelp.
I doubt this review of mine will be added to Yelp because I am going to recommend to reviewers that they may instead want to write reviews on Sitejabber.com instead. Sitejabber is an ethical company. I know because I wrote a number of reviews on Sitejabber, and eventually the founder of Sitejabber contacted me and other reviewers about how he could make Sitejabber better. He talked to us personally by phone, and then he actually implemented the changes we suggested! Really remarkable!
I don't know what happened with Help, but why post to a site when your good reviews may be deleted? Try Sitejabber instead.
Unbelievable that Yelp let's businesses delete honest reviews, not rants. I am a huge Yelp uset, but now I don't feel like I can trust the reviews, because the negative reviews have been removed.
Yelp is a garbage company who displays only negative reviews and wont publish honest reviews from good customers, cant wait for this company to be thrown in the trash bin cause thats where its headed cant wait for the lawsuits
This company hangs up in your face. Is deceiving and lies about the services and steals money for fake advertising. I wish I saw all of these terrible reviews prior to them stealing $400 from me. Worst customer service and terrible people
The reviews can be questionable but I use them to find some restaurants in the area. Not the best..
Answer: Yes, it's true or they go to "not recommended"
Answer: Yelp are crooks, find some where else
Answer: For one of my business they made me pay for their monthly service which I never did, so my positive review was hidden.
Answer: Look somewhere else. As the reviews here show Yelp is notoriously unreliable.
Answer: Yes they erase all reviews they darn well wish to delete. CROOKED YELP!
