Yelp Reviews Summary

The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily concerning its review management practices and aggressive advertising tactics. Many users express frustration over hidden reviews, perceived extortion for advertising, and a lack of genuine customer support. Positive aspects are scarce, with some customers appreciating the platform's potential for connecting with local businesses. However, the overwhelming sentiment reveals a distrust in the company's ethics and practices, leading to calls for accountability and transparency. Overall, the feedback indicates a critical need for Yelp to address these serious concerns to rebuild trust among its users.

Deceptive
January 6, 2019

Yelp removed all positive reviews of my business A Plus Auto Inc and categorized them as "not useful" and left 1 negative review posted. *Note whenever Yelp representatives have called me to advertise with Yelp (which is quite often) I have always declined, and blocked their number because they call so much.

My legitimate positive reviews were cut after I decided not to invest any money into Yelp add companies. At first, they cut my reviews in half and a month later my business left without any reviews and zero rating because of that.

I think the reviews rip-offs is a strategy to push away small businesses.

Never been a big Yelp user, but have had enough calls from customers based on them looking us up, so took the time to listen to the pushy Yelp salesperson promising me a huge increase in business if I signed up for their ads. 1 month and $600 and no jobs later, I cancelled the ads - (my opinion of their ads program and it's value is for another day) - Really I just wanted to mention the ads to let other business owners know not to do them- pay the $90 each month for the perks instead to avoid Yelps pushing your potential clients to other businesses. My real issue is their handling of reviews. It's just so... shady. They say it has to do with how active a user is on Yelp whether their review is recommended or not. Out of 51 reviews - all but 2 of them 5 stars and 18 from 2018 alone- each one written by a real customer with no incentive- Yelp chooses to only 'recommend' 15 of those - and only 3 from 2018. 35 are 'not recommended'. I could go on and on about their 'recommendation software' that they supposedly have no control over and how I've did a little research and comparing and found them to be liars. I could go on and on how our recommended reviews dropped from 26 to 15 in the space of a few days after I canceled the ads. But I don't have time for all that. I am just wondering who asked Yelp to nit pik through and withhold reviews that a real person took the time to write. It's BS- if I did - (which I don't)- I would want to make my own decision based on All the reviews customers had written - good and bad. I think it's very presumptuous of Yelp to decide for other people whether or not they see what they are literally on Yelp to see in the first place.

Yelp is Junk. This service closed my account for writing an honest opinion of a business whom I had legitimate contact with the manager. This is censorship at its worst.

Terrible system, have left over 9 reviews on Yelp for legit businesses and they are not there. I was prompted by a restaurant owner which I happened to ask if he saw the rating I gave his place. He said no, He immediately tried searching for it and it was not listed, in fact he had said no worrie. I frequently visit the restaurant because of the consistency and quality of the food.

I decided to go on my phone and his review was there, I called for him and showed him, he pulled out his phone and we found the review under a not recommended section.

Yelp has defraud me and robbed the poor owner of his review. It showed the review was active as long as I was signed in to Yelp but as soon as I logged out of Yelp and did another search it was under a not recommended review.

Yelp, stop defrauding and misleading your customer and business alike or your company will eventually fail. I cant believe I have wasted my time writing a review from my busy schedule for you not to even count it. I will never depend on your site for anything as I see many similar complaints.

I would suggest customers stop depending on Yelp and move to a company such as google, or home advisor, thumbtack or whatever. I guess is hard to trust anyone but when there are so many complaints both from users and businesses alike you know something stinks.

YELP YOU are one rotten apple.

Good luck everyone who uses them.

Here's a little story...
December 31, 2018

So I was perusing new restaurants in my area via Yelp one night because I have always thought Yelp is the place to get honest reviews from people. So as I am reading about this brand new restaurant that just opened, I suddenly come across this twit who has written a novel just slamming this place. It appears she had to wait too long for food. And from the looks of her, she had not missed too many meals. Well,,, it just rubbed me the wrong way. After all, here is a brand new business, a restaurant at that, not easy to run these days in the first place... here is a new eatery just opened, still working out the kinks, and you are going to get on yelp and give it your college try to put them under? No no no... not if I can help it. So I wrote a rebuttal to her blah blah blah and do you know that Yelp deleted it! Yes, that's right! All I said to this girl was that based on her other reviews, she finds fault in anything and likes to complain about everything and quite frankly, is someone a business does not want back, so BUH BYE Felicia!
Now I look at a business, read a few reviews and sometimes see what kind of reviews these people give to other places. There was a girl in my town who was purposely going on Yelp and writing ugly reviews about the businesses near her. So you see, all is not as it seems. Do NOT take every review at it's wording. There is more than meets the eye with these reviews. And how UNFAIR is it that someone can just throw a business under the cement truck possibly without ever having gone to or seen such establishment... huh?
Give everyone a shot and make up your own mind... because some here are out of theirs!

YELP refuses to take down a review from someone I never met and that never used my services. This means that anyone with a bad intention can post a negative review a Yelp will make sure it gets posted. Do not trust this service.

Yelp can't be trusted.
December 26, 2018

This company has continuously tried to extort my families small business into paying "to have our reviews fixed". We have plenty of 5 star reviews that will never see the light of day simply because we can't afford their services. I truly wish this company would stop operating unethically. They are causing much harm to businesses owners across the US.

Reviews for sale
December 25, 2018

Yelp is an example of a company on the way down. Interestingly, after discontinuing my advertising with Yelp, my 10 recommended reviews shrank to 2 reviews, and one of those was the only review which was less than a 5 star. Their "algorithm" overlooks reviewers with multiple reviews and many other Yelp friends, and allows a 3 star review from a "Yelper" with one review (mine).

Obnoxious
December 21, 2018

After having Yelp blocked on our business phone for a long time, they got through, after a 45 minute call of me trying to decline nicely on 12/18/18, I received another call from another yelp salesperson on 12/21/18, I told him right off the bat that I was not interested and I again attempted to politely decline, after 15 minutes, I finally told him I was on the verge of being rude and since it's the holiday season I didn't want to ruin my happy mood because of their sales methods. I feel like they must get paid commission and are trained to just badger business owners into purchasing their advertising by wearing them down minute by minute on the phone just to get them off the phone.

YELP IS SCAM!
December 14, 2018

I own a business and Yelp called me to join there network of businesses that advertise with them. I refused because rates were high. Well a few weeks later they moved all my bad reviews to the top and my rating declined. It effected my business. They should be shut down for being fake. All they care about is cornering companies to pay them. Bunch of ripoffs!

Yelp changes the game midstream, steals reviews, customer service agents just hang up on you rather than dealing with problems. I am a business owner that used Yelp and paid more than $1,000 on Yelp ads. Everything was well for about 3 months - generated 11 five star reviews from customers but the ROI was poor. Not enough customers coming from my investment. One day, I checked Yelp to find my 11 five star reviews went down to 4.?. I called Yelp and talked to a customer service agent who could care less. She was telling me of a 'programming change' that stole the reviews. I asked detailed questions - what change, why, what happen to the reviews, what did you change in the programming, what is the new criteria etc... she rudely says - 'I can't explain it" and hung up. Hung up?! I am paying a lot of money for this? I called back to reach executive audience however, Yelp corporate phone goes right to voice mail every day. I left a message that was never returned. I tried back to customer service and talked to an agent (better) who says the change was trying to get 'more organic" reviews. What does that mean? My reviews were viewed as fake. But these were real customers, received my services and gave feedback to Yelp. How much more "organic" can you get. Nothing more was explained and she had no idea what the new criteria for reviews moving forward. Unreal! It is hard to get customers to leave reviews, especially good ones. Yelp just stole them like nothing and acted like it meant nothing. I canceled my advertising and will never send them another dime. And I am sure they don't care.

Fraud Scam
December 11, 2018

Yelp calls weekly asking us to advertise and when I respond with "but we have a 1-star Yelp rating because all of the 5-star ratings are hidden", they respond with they can help with that... So I pay them for advertising and they can magically help my rating? It's modern day extortion and I can't believe they haven't been taken down as of yet. Hundreds of businesses report the same as me.

Yelp says their reviews are real but the way yelp works is they won't post reviews on a business unless that business spends money to advertise with them. If you search different businesses on yelp you will notice a business who doesn't advertise will have only a couple recommended reviews and dozens of not recemmended reviews giving them a way lower ranking then a similar business who does advertise! Yelp is all about the money and they use reviews like black mail to get businesses to advertise. Not a fan of yelp! Look up a few businesses who don't advertise with yelp they will have 10 times the amount of reviews on google and home advisor as on yelp as yelp only posts reviews for companies who spend money with them!

Anyone normal who has socialized properly growing up knows that when you call someone a "Nazi", it means they are basically an uptight jerk. I used this a couple times in a review of mine along with calling the business a concentration camp, which it was. Four years after the fact, Yelp deleted this review, claiming it was culturally insensitive.

I deleted my account. This was such an affront to everything I believe in. It was not racist or bigoted in any way. Their reasons to delete the review were such a stretch, I could not feel compelled to do anything with that site anymore. It was just pure stupidity. I will not encourage this wave of PC nonsense that is going on anymore. It's a cult. It's only going to get worse if people do not stand up to it. Wow.

Yelp is a pain in the $#*!. I can't see anything about businesses on my cell phone without downloading their app. My grandfather used to run a bead store and he said they would remove bad reviews from competitors who paid them and wouldn't remove fraudulent reviews posted by competing businesses on his business without paying them, too.
