The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily concerning its review management practices and aggressive advertising tactics. Many users express frustration over hidden reviews, perceived extortion for advertising, and a lack of genuine customer support. Positive aspects are scarce, with some customers appreciating the platform's potential for connecting with local businesses. However, the overwhelming sentiment reveals a distrust in the company's ethics and practices, leading to calls for accountability and transparency. Overall, the feedback indicates a critical need for Yelp to address these serious concerns to rebuild trust among its users.

As a small business owner I was using Yelp on a free account that had received numerous five star reviews and a one-star review from an account I disputed as even being real. Once I turned down yelp's advertising overtures all of my 5 star reviews disappeared and became not recommended and the only review they left up was the one-star review. They continually told me they could help with this if I would advertise with him. But their pricing structure is ridiculous and I have read way too many reports of how they still take money out of people's accounts even though those accounts have been canceled. This is extortion! This company needs to be taken down. If you advertise with them or use their site you are only contributing to the problem. Please read all of the other reviews before doing any business or providing reviews for Yelp.
I thought to get more marketing I'd try out Yelp to see if that would bring in more customers. The girl on the phone was very pushy about getting started and how they could really help me. I kept telling her I wanted to wait and think about it. She was very pushy about getting my card info into the system and getting me set up. While I decided to go ahead and run the ad, I saw my customers would go in on in support and write great reviews on their experience. The next day I suddenly noticed that they were all gone and the 5 star rating was gone too. How do they expect a business to promote and they remove your ratings and reviews like that. So I gladly cancelled my add only 3 days into it before the payment was to come out because they are not honest and I don't feel my business was fairly treated in this. I'll keep using free promotion on IG and the way I've been doing it with no issues. If this helps anyone not get caught with Yelp up I've done my good deed for the day.
... unless you like throwing money away with $5 clicks.
You'd do better to handout Starbucks drinks and business cards. Hey, that actually doesn't sound like a bad idea.
Basically, Yelp is the review mofia. They're experts in nickle and diming, add-on's for every little thing, and if more businesses operated like them we'd all be in trouble.
The new system of delivery of dinner/lunch/whatever... seems to have taken over in Colorado. But... as far as the BBQ place is involved... that place sucks! I am referring to $#*!ey's Barbecue Pit. The BBQ beans were hot... the sandwich was well over cooked and dryed out. Where did my baked potato go? And the drink I asked for was a Lemonade and I got a Coke. Even though this delivery was on time. The food... wasn't. Good luck getting what you might want if you try this again.
Yelp is the worst! Stay away from them they only take reviews from yelp users and the reviews they leave are horrible. I wish more than anything I could be non existent! I almost signed a contract until I found out it's almost impossible to get a positive review. Stay away if you care about your business.
A poor review on Yelp may be nothing more than a malicious attack by someone with a grudge. Unless the review cites specific, objective issues, it may be nothing more than a "hit piece" by someone seeking revenge. Yelp appears to have no standards for objectivity or fairness to weed out such attacks or to ensure that the review accurately characterizes the business. One review of my dental practice criticizes my personality as well as my office, without citing any specifics, and was written, I later learned, by a teenage boy who posted as an attractive young woman, using a photo downloaded from the internet. The comments about my office and me may make a much different impression on a reader who thinks they were made by a young adult woman rather than a high school kid. Even when this was pointed out to Yelp, they refused to remove or modify it, so they don't even care if the reviewers honestly represent themselves. It's a shame, because Yelp could be so much better than it is with a little conscientiousness. If they cared at all about reputable and reliable reviews, they could do something to weed out character assassination and online vandalism. But they are not concerned about quality or who is hurt. They are just hustling quick bucks, while hiding under the protective skirts of the First Amendment. These people are pathetic. Take Yelp reviews with a very large grain of salt!
I am the owner and operator of a small 11 room hotel. We've been in business since 2006. We were continually tele marketed by YELP for many years. My answer to them was always "please stop calling, YELP does not reach our demographic". A few months back I got the usual call, but this time I was called by someone who managed to get my attention. His name was Brandon Weedon. Brandon was an amicable guy and managed to convince me that YELP would reach my demographic. My hat is off to Brandon for his salesmanship. For the record I never advertise without some definitive method of tracking the business generated by the ad. I set things up accordingly. The end result; after one month and $1,000 (one thousand) dollars in fees NOT ONE reservation was garnered via that YELP ad campaign. I'm not sure what demographic YELP reaches, but sure doesn't reach mine. I've been saying YELP is dead for years. YELP may not be dead to some people, but YELP is surely dead to me!
THEY TAKE OFF GOOD REVIEWS BY ACTUAL CUSTOMERS AND LEAVE THE BAD ONES! WHAT A RIP OFF, SCAM, ETC! I COULD GO ON AND ON ABOUT THIS RIDICULOUS FORMAT/COMPANY! I HAVE WASTED HOURS UPON HOURS TRYING TO CONTACT PEOPLE ABOUT CUSTOMERS FAKE REVIEWS, SLANDER, DEFAMATION OF CHACACTER ect. AND TRYING TO FIGURE WHY THEY TAKE GREAT REVIEWS OFF! I SO F-ING PISSED ON HOW PEOPLE CAN OPERATE LIKE THIS! I WILL BE HIRING AN ATTORNEY WHEN I FIND THE RIGHT ONE AND SUE THEM FOR ALL I CAN! WHO'S WITH ME!
So let me understand this... Yelp blocks and or discounts any real positive reviews but allows fake bad reviews so they can try to strong arm business into paid service. I'm pretty $#*!ing sure that illegal and falls under extortion you stupid $#*!ers!
I will be trying to file an HARRASSMENT lawsuit about yelp. I have told them to stop calling me and did not do any good. I have had to block at least 9 of their phone numbers and they still keep on calling. I have tried to close my business account with them with no luck, because they told me that I couldn't close it. Now I cant do anything to my account as if they blocked me from my own business info. I will be taking legal action. I CANT EXPRESS IT ENOUGH, DO NOT USE YELP. STAY AWAY!
Would not recommend this company at all. Misleading discussion from sales man on how the program works. Signed up for a $15/day advertising limit. After $1100 in charges and not a single call or job booked I cancelled in the middle of a month. They charge $450 for the entire month and said this "does not act as an official daily limit" and they had sent out $450 in ads in the first 14 days of the month. In a nut shell no refund. Dont trust them or their daily limits, ONLY AFTER YOUR MONEY.
Received a phone call telling me if I wanted my competitors ads removed from my page I would have to pay. Does anyone make an honest living anymore?
They (YELP) offered me $300 credit and two weeks have gone by and still there is a credit of 256 left. I then go to pay my bills with online banking to see that YELP charged $416. I wrote them of this mistake and they acted blindly towards this situation and refused to give me a refund. I don't have extra money to just give away especially when the money they took was part of my rent. I would never sign up to anything I could not afford.
I canceled my Yelp Account July 30,2019 and was billed again in September. I am told that They are separate accounts on separate versions of the site; one is for the front-end for users, the other is the back-end for Business Owners. How was i supposed to know that when I was locked out on July 30th. Scam!
THEIVES very unprofessionally! You dont need Yelp. Just do good business and good business will return
We are a small carwash business and Yelp charged us over a 3 month period over $3,000 dollars. WARNING: Do not sign up for any type of Yelp promotions, Do not give them your credit card information. The data on sales they provide for your business is not understandable. Yes the company that review us has a 1 Star review. They know how to preach but do not understand what customer service is!
The BBB says Yelp has an average of "1 star" review and over 2000 complaints. You can see it here... https://www.bbb.org/us/ca/san-francisco/profile/internet-service/yelpcom-1116-*******/customer-reviews...I wrote a review on sitejabber about yelp a few years ago and it got over 2000 views and only a single vote probably because I said psychos post only 1 star and I posted only 1 star. But now I am convinced of they are psycho as they will not allow me to post any review. I found this article on Forbes... https://www.forbes.com/sites/jimhandy/2012/08/16/think-yelp-is-unbiased-think-again/#fbf4f6011d1d... which said yelp publishes only 1 star reviews but I noticed that recently changed because of the slander laws. I hope sitejabber prevails over yelp.
Yelp is a Scam! They harrassed me every day for a week and while I was busy there rep kept trying to hold conversations and sell me on whatever they do. Which was NOTHING! They didnt Help Me Make $1, But the scammers they are, they charged me for $15 a Day for anyone who jus looked at my page. They didnt have to book an Appointment with me and I still got charged for a month, $15 or more a day. After a month these SCAMMERS TOOK $540 OUT OF MY ACCOUNT. These INCONSIDERATE $#*!S DID NOT EVEN TRY TO WORK WITH ME AND GIVE ME HALF OF MY MONEY BACK WHEN THE FACT IS THEY DIDNT HELP ME MAKE ANY MONEY BUT TOOK THAT HUGE AMOUNT FROM ME. THEY HAD NO REMORSE OR CARE ABOUT TAKING FOOD OUT OF MY BABIES MOUTHS. I Disputed it and 2 months later they took it back and gave my bank a B. S excuse. So if I can help ANYBODY AND EVERYBODY BY SAYING PLEASEEEEEEEE DO NOT SIGN UP WITH YELP.! THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY
I recenty had Ron from guard pro do some repairs on my fridge and microwave.he was very through and very polite. I would have him again anytime for repairs. He also told me that my dryer vent needed to be cleaned out or it might start a fire, which I was very pleased to learn
They will lead to understand their advertising one way, but charge you much more than you agreed. Stay away from Yelp Ads!
Answer: Yes, it's true or they go to "not recommended"
Answer: Yelp are crooks, find some where else
Answer: For one of my business they made me pay for their monthly service which I never did, so my positive review was hidden.
Answer: Look somewhere else. As the reviews here show Yelp is notoriously unreliable.
Answer: Yes they erase all reviews they darn well wish to delete. CROOKED YELP!
