Yelp Reviews Summary

The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily concerning its review management practices and aggressive advertising tactics. Many users express frustration over hidden reviews, perceived extortion for advertising, and a lack of genuine customer support. Positive aspects are scarce, with some customers appreciating the platform's potential for connecting with local businesses. However, the overwhelming sentiment reveals a distrust in the company's ethics and practices, leading to calls for accountability and transparency. Overall, the feedback indicates a critical need for Yelp to address these serious concerns to rebuild trust among its users.

Yelp is the most misleading advertising companies on the market. I am a small business owner trying to make a start in
Advertising. I was told i could have a trial period with $300 up front to use on ads.
I chose $15 a day using the upfront $300 and after 20 days i was charged $426 at the end of the month. Do not! Advertise with yelp if you value your money!

Yelp is no good
August 27, 2019

They only take review from "active" Yelp user. Like profiles with hundreds of followers and tons of reviews. I tried to leave a review for this lovely spa I went to but my review were filtered into "not recommended" This spa said they took a hit on multiple bad reviews because these old ladies were being naggy and difficult, all because they weren't offered coffee and wine when they visited LOL and the spa was loud because it was busy... Seriously. I don't think that's worth the spa being lowered to a 3 STAR spa. The services were great, best I've been to for my lashes! Plus, I looked through these ladies profiles and all the reviews they left for these small businesses are horrible. It's like that's all Yelp users are consist of... naggy old people has lots of time on their hands. They were all one page long reviews. Who has time for that?

I wrote a review on Longo Toyota and Pasadena Toyota and minutes later the two reviews were gone. Clearly Toyota paid Yelp and Yelp gladly deleted those reviews for a fee. I wrote regarding how the two Toyota dealers are ripping Lexus, and assuming other customers too, because Toyota was charging me $9,000 to replace half of the engine in my 2011 ES 350. My car was having fuel injection system issues and Toyota was telling me it was not a recall and that it had to come out of my pocket. The cost of the of the repair was outrageous. But to do this really short, I took my Lexus to some other mechanic and he replaced some sensors in the engine and that fixed the problem.

After I wrote my experience at the two Toyota dealers my Yelp review was gone as I said. This is one of the reasons why I don't use yelp to advertise my business because these guys are plain corrupt and I don't do business with corrupt organizations.

Poway Honda
August 26, 2019

I would like to especially recommend Mickey Perez, for finding me the car of my dreams. I was looking for a British Green Mini Cooper and other dealerships told me there were none in that color anywhere on the West Coast. Mickey found one for me! I would not have bought one in any other color. Mickey found the car I wanted in about 10 minutes! It was in LA and shipped to me in 2 days. The car had been a lease and only had 35,000 miles on it though it was 2016. If you are looking for something special in an automobile ask for Mickey Perez.

Digital Mafia
August 22, 2019

If there is such thing as a digital mafia, this company is it! Some of the same buzzwords can be used to describe them.

They "hide" great reviews and display $#*!ty ones, then give you a call and try to get money out of you at which point, your good reviews will magically show up and affect your overall rating.

I'm sorry, but if any other company did this... "pay us money and be honest" scheme, they would be burned at the stake.

Yelp, I've got a 1 word review for you - $#*!.

Too Aggressive
August 19, 2019

I keep getting phone calls from THE SAME PERSON at yelp where she constantly pretends we haven't spoken before and wants to take 5 minutes to go over what yelp can do for us. Despite me being super polite the first 5 times, then rudely the next 5 times, I now hang up as soon as I hear her voice. They are way to aggressive, if my business wanted to spend money with Yelp i would of said yes at least 15 phone calls ago. Making the same call every day does not make a business owner change their mind and choose to put their hard earned dollars your way, it actually does quite the opposite! I will never ever recommend yelp for this fact alone. I understand they are running a business too, but no means no in this case as any other case.

We have had two different salespeople call, here is the latest threat. If you don't sign up with us we will saturate the market with your competitors. Telling me that Google reviews are all lies. I call BS. The 9 google reviews we have, 8 of them are legitimate. All giving us 5 stars. They are truly oyr customers. Bye bye Yelp

These guys should be banned from the internet. We opened a new small store, and were attacked by yelp. They wouldn't stop calling me to buy advertising. I gave them permission to speak to a sub contractor we were using. That is all. The Sub, was never authorized to sign us up for ads, but he knew his days were numbered so he signed us up without our knowledge and used a fraudulent card that yelp couldn't run. They then informed me that I owe them $745.00. I had no idea we had been signed up. The fact that they were given a fraudulent card should have been a red flag. The fact they kept running ads for another full month with a card that wasn't working is completely their fault. When I complained to their customer success team, they said they would send it to the review team. These guys will not talk to you. They just send an email that says they reviewed it and decided I owe them money. I ask to speak to someone but they won't call you. They are cowards. It is also interesting that several of my good reviews were magically downgraded the second they were not getting paid. Coincidence, I think not. They advertise themselves as an open forum. The only time they should touch reviews, is when a person is obviously attacking a company trying to hurt it. They shouldn't touch good reviews. It is obvious they do this, so that you will not get top billing in a search over someone who is paying them. Stay away from them at all cost.

Worst of the worst
August 17, 2019

I do not recommended Yelp to any business, they will remove all your reviews unless you purchase ads from them. Yelp is just trying to take money from businesses, it does not accurately represent any business. If I could I would give them 0 stars. They won't even let you get rid of your account because they want as many users as they can to show how popular they are which is just wrong. I thought Yelp would be a great option to support my business but I was very wrong, Yelp is terrible place to look for businesses and/or support business.

WHY would you allow reviews and then all of a sudden deem that unfounded and pull them from a ranking? How do you know the reviews are not valid?!?!?! You are hurting good businesses by pulling positive, relevant, valid reviews that have been posted of business. You are not GOD! Go away or get your s#$! Together. You'd get a "0" from me if I could give it.

Total scam
August 15, 2019

I got so tired of yelp deleting good reviews and keeping bad ones I literally experimented and made a bad review of my own company and of course they kept it up ( I obviously deleted it on my own. I also created a phony yelp account and make a good review and obviously you know what happened... they kicked it down to not recommended.

Yelp started out as a place for people to come and leave reviews, to have their voices heard. I used to believe them. Now, the only voices heard are the businesses who are willing to pay for ads.

I've had several people (real legitimate customers) review my business but Yelp won't post allow them to be seen because their "algorithm" doesn't see them as credible. I bet if I got a bad review, it'd be up there immediately.

To make it sting a little more, I get weekly calls from their sales department asking me to pay for ads. They're pushy. I've asked them to quit calling and they won't. My guess is that if I paid for ads, they'd let a couple of my positive reviews be seen.

So, next time you go on yelp.com for a fair assessment of a business, remember that yelp is a business and they have control of which reviews are "credible" and which aren't.

I really like to using the app called nowait. I was disappointed when yelp acquired nowait. Yelp doesn't have the same options for checking into a restaurant and monitoring your wait time. Now when you go to the restaurants page, it says "check in" but when you get to the restaurant they don't have a record of you checking in.

Yelp ask you to create a FREE BUSINESS REP soliciting my business line. I respect because I am in sales and cold calls as well. Then they charged my card which he insist that I had to put on file to receive an emailed coupon if I was interested in ads. I never agreed nor placed any ads. The billing department had over an hour wait. I also spoke to a very rude rep who said to take it up with my bank. Which the bank is a much easier process. I can't believe the rip people off so much! It's disgusting. Every representative I spoke to was very rude. SCAM SCAM SCAM

Greedy
August 11, 2019

Hello. I'm a new business owner trying to get established and developed. I created a yelp business page because I have happy client's and would love to build trust with new prospects. A day after I created my brand new yelp business page I received a phone call from a yelp rep Rusty Wolford. He was manipulative and pushy for me to purchase yelp ads. He made it seem like I would fail without purchasing their ads and my yelp business account wouldn't excel. I declined and told him I would like to try and start up my business on my own for a couple of months. I reassured him If I wasn't successful at doing so I will contact yelp for there help. The next day I had over 10 clients write reviews on yelp for my business and I was really excited. I checked back a week later and was shocked. Yelp won't allow any of them to be posted. Not one! I get they have an algorism that looks over all reviews and only posts the WORTHY ones from yelp members that are more established on their site. I get it. But to not allow one single review on my business page out of 10 is corrupt and not right. I called yelp and have been trying to get ahold of the same rep that is in charge of my page but he's not compliant. I've been leaving messages as well but he won't return my calls. Yelp is making it impossible for me to grow my business on my own. There completely trying to benefit off new business owners to make money. Extremely greedy and not right!
