ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

Better make sure you thoroughly go over the return policy. If you choose free label it's returned as a store credit, if you pay for the label you'll get your money back in full. Also! If you're using affirm, you still have to make your affirm payments if you get store credit. So still making payments on a return you made. Part of me wants to not even bother with my store credit but it would literally be throwing my own money away. Frustrating!
Hello, I sent 5 huge bags of clothing including many name brand items to Thread up. They paid me nothing and kept everything. After I messaged them on Facebook they blocked me. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY!
I've been Thredup customer since 2015. If you think you will make decent money, you are wrong. And they charge to return your items, which is ridiculous. But apart from the bad business plan, the logistics are absolutely horrible.
They lost one of my clean out bags.
Part of an email from a customer service support specialist of ThredUp: We thank you for using our clean-out service! Our processing teams informed us that regrettably bag #... was listed on 10/03/21 but there were not items listed. Unfortunately we do not have any information on this suppliers bag to know what had happened.
It is worth mentioning that this bag weighed 19 lbs when I shipped it, I remember well!
Then I placed an order with the credit they gave me for this bag, paid for shipping to arrive soon and the item was lost between UPS and USPS.
I contacted the customer service and they just kept telling me to contact them in 5 days! Nothing happened! Lost clean out bag, lost order! Lost money!
There are times I've received wonderful items from ThredUp, but a lot of the time I have to return due to quality issues. I've had items stained, faux leather peeling off a jacket, most of the time holes and tears. Funny, since their clean out boxes say it has to be in good condition to be accepted. Also, if you send items in you get pretty much nothing for your items. Pennies, sometimes.
Ever try to Unsubscribe or delete your account.
I believe they must be blocking it every time. What kind desperadoes is this company anyhow?
Rescue boxes are great most of the time. Costumer service could be better though. And it takes forever for them to process a clean out kit. Some of my designer items were not listed that were in good shape. But I've gotten pretty good items in rescue boxes and prices are decent on their items for sale. Everything I've bought has been in good shape.
I sent in a clean out kit in November while the site states processing time takes up to 12 weeks it's been 14 weeks and since speaking to an "agent" they are delayed by 5 months they're still processing orders from September. I asked for the items to be returned and I was told I have to wait till the items reach the front of the processing line either way im royally screwed on brand new ticketed items. This place came highly recommended from a shopper but Upon reading reviews which I should've did before the payout isn't good at all, they pocket alot of the money, and keep alot of the items and all the time they spend on processing is for nothing as they list damaged, dirty smelly items anyway. The. She had the never to offer me a $20 credit to shop as if that would fix the thieving issue going on over there. The money is clearly going into their pockets and not to those who really need it. If you're looking for a place to sell your items I suggest mercari and depop as long as you're willing to do the work. I decided to sell some stuff on this platform for the experience to see how many platforms I can utilize this is not it. It deserves 0 stars and to be shut down for good.
I ordered and the $#*! was crap. Skirt had a hole in it and the pants were absolutely disgusting. Too short and had stains on them and to return them they charge a stocking fee and you don't get your money back so it wasn't worth me to return them because I would have actually lost money. Never again will i ever order from this site.
I recently place an order for 4 items. Shipping was costly and super slow. It was not refunded when I returned the items. The clothing should have gone to a thrift store. There was a hole in one item and all of them smelled old, were faded and stretched out or had shrunk in the case of a cotton/cashmere dress. After multiple attempts and time taken to contact them NO ONE ever responded. This is the worst experience I have ever had shopping online. They only have "form" responses and "did they help"? NO was my answer. They should add "tough luck" to the form when they blow you off.
Don't do it! Not worth the hassle! Good luck Trying to return items you didn't order. Pay a restock fee and shipping after you receive items that you didn't order. I gave it another shot and the same thing, wrong items again! And Now on top of that you have to pay them for their mistakes!
I shipped my bag to thredup November 1 to sell clothes and it still has not even been PROCESSED, let alone added to the store to be sold. It is 2.21 now and the estimated date of processing was just pushed back again to 3.14. Not worth it. This is the 2nd time I've sold with them and the process has taken 6+ months.
I ordered a dress that was non-returnable, fine if it wasn't all stained up! Why sell a dress with stains all over it. That was NOT in the description! I will never order from them again. You end up paying less for the real thing after stocking fee and postage.
The idea behind thredup is brilliant. In practice, it doesn't live up to the hype. After receiving my items, it took the thredup team six months to go through and price. The prices for the seller are atrocious. As an example, I sent in a brand new, never worn $120 pair of running shoes. I could have sold them on Facebook Marketplace for $60. With thredup my take was $8. In summary, find another option for selling your goods.
I sent in 3 boxes of cleanup kits. I was told the processing would take 12 weeks and it took 6 months. The payout was not nearly as much as I expected and I was getting cents for clothes that I originally spent $50 on. Not worth it and better to bring your clothes to a local consignment shop.
BIG PASS ON THIS COMPANY
I kept seeing Do it on a dime promote them so I tried it. I am in Canada and was surprised they ship. I found a few things I liked 4clothing items 2 shoes, they were lower price point so I took the chance with the exchange.
TERRIBLE!
Do not waste your money, two shirts I ordered were supposed to be white they were so grey from washing they were disgusting. The pants and jumpsuit I ordered were not as described or as pictured and the fit was horrible.
Shoes - ok
What a disappointment, I was expecting some quality control if you are going to ship second hand clothes there was no discretion on the items they sent. They will go to goodwill as I don't even think it is worth my paying to ship back.
Katherine, seriously disappointed.
First, it took them 6 months to process a bag. All of the items I sent in were name brand, with tags and I am getting between 35 center and $1.90 for every item sold. What a scam! I've reported them to the BBB. They refuse to return my bag as well! Even though nothing has even been officially listed yet. They claim that will take another 6 months. I could have sold on Facebook market or eBay for more than triple what I'll get. I was trying to save time by having them list, now I know that it's better to do it yourself rather than be stolen from!
I have been waiting for a response for three weeks now. I received a box that contained 3 tops and I ordered 5 pair of jeans. I was worried at first because the box was small but i opened it thinking maybe it was vac sealed. But nope as soon as i opened it i knew it was incorrect. I was blown off and told just resend the product you received. And the stuff you ordered is now concidered lost and they will not help you find you order at all. They stated just send product I even included a picture of the box and tops I received. I have sent multiple emails and still no response. This is my first order from this company and they definitely make you feel as if you are the problem. As if you are lying about what you received. I understand some may do this but not all. They truly do not care about the customers, they have made no attempt to help or refund your money and expect you to take your time out to send the order back with no help finding your original order. I Do not recommend. I love the thought of resell but Please shop elsewhere. You will most likely will not get what you ordered.
One item was heavily stained with pulled threads. Another had a button literally falling off. I wouldn't buy these items at a garage sale for the $2 restocking fee. Only one item arrived as described. The whole box reeked of bad perfume. If you're a seamstress, willing to gamble, and looking for unusual items that fit your style and wallet or only buy new with tags, go for it. Otherwise Poshmark is a lot better, and the sellers get the money, not some start up tech CEO. I'd love to help you think secondhand first Jim, but this business model fails.
I ordered 3 items on 1/17,1/28 and it still hadn't shipped. I can't get a hold of anyone from the company, just an automated email response. They're online chat support permanently down. It's 2/1 and it hasn't shipped. It'll be Spring soon and I won't need these sweaters.
Just to go on they force you to give your email. First turn off. Have a fake email. Second it's so annoying to navigate when every click is an ad for a discount. Not to mention blurry photos! What is the problem here? Get someone better to design your website! Will never return. Gross
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
