ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

Don't do it! This is a scam site! I sent in 6 pairs of shoe 4 brand new never worn and expected at least $90 in return and received 6.90! They kept all new Jessica Simpson and torrid heels and completely ripped me off! Never again!
This company is morally bankrupt.
They pay you pennies on items they sell and make 90% profit.
They pay based on a tier model, only accepting items to pay the lowest tier percentage.
They break up sets and return the broken set. ( sell the skirt and return the jacket)
Protect yourself from disappointment. Iv'e been selling used items for 40 years and have never experienced this type of fraud.
My experience with ThredUp has been wonderful! I have only purchased clothing from them and have been impressed by their site's interface, their delivery and packaging, and the ease of returning items. Beyond buying used being a cause I can really get behind, ThredUp's prices are unbelievable. I'm hooked and am spreading the word about this awesome site!
I wish I had read these reviews before I sent in a bag. There were only 6 items in the bag, all brand new except for one item that was worn once. New value was probably about $160 for all of it, and I expected about $25 to $30. I received $3.97. And they claimed the best dress in the bag, $65 new, was stained so they couldn't accept it. They sent me a picture of the supposedly stained dress, but there were no stains that I could see. Not only am I going to warn every one I know to stay away, but I will report them to the BBB.
ThredUp has a history behind the scenes of hiring people of color to work within their warehouse to practice illegal labor laws. They hire individuals paying them minimum wage with a promise of more compensation after 90 days, and then fire them. They are overworked to the extreme processing the bags of items customers have sent in under hazardous conditions. Many former employees who have spoken out about these circumstances, have been terminated. They have a history of doing these unlawful things, and have unfortunately gotten away with it. If there's anyone out there or any former warehouse employee of ThredUp that experienced this circumstance, please speak out. They cannot keep getting away with making employee's (particularly of color) jobs miserable of their unlawful employment practices.
Do not deal with them. Takes forever for them to process your bags, then they accepted less than 50% of my things. One item I know was extremely marketable was not accepted.
Don't be dumb, like me, and assume they will accept all your impeccable, current style items. Instead, they will rip you off, giving you money for a small percentage.
Don't bother with these losers.
I wish I could give a zero star review. My bag was not returned and they claimed I didn't opt for "returns assurance" which is completely untrue. Not cool.
Worst of all, you can't "cash out" unless they have "paid" you over $20 for what you sent. So I have $9.83 credit with them that I will not use because I am not sending anything more in and I am not buying anything from them. Can you say scam? Might be worth a call to the Attorney General in Cali.
I have sent a total of 6 "Clean Out" bags. It takes weeks before they recieve it and then months before they process them. I sent my items in May, it is now the middle of July and they haven't been processed. There is no customer service number. The only way to contact them is thru email. I have sent several emails only to recieve the same computer generated reply. I am so frustrated and Done with this company!
I took great pains to ensure everything that didn't actually have tags on it was laundered and fresh. Sent a load of stuff off, all in very good condition, nothing stained/torn/shabby at all. Some things had never been worn. They accepted 10 items which they valued at $17.55... less than $2 per item! It was not worth the time and effort taken to fill the bag and take it to be shipped. I will NEVER send anything again. Wasn't interested in buying anything anyway.
I saw ads for ThredUP all over the web and I was a little reluctant to try it at first, but am glad I did. You have to browse a bunch if you don't know exactly what you want, but the website and app are easy to use and the experience is worthwhile.
I participated in Thred Up because the promotion came through Macy's. Of all the items I sent only two have been sold. It was my understanding that I would get a gift card from Macy's for the amount I was supposed to received. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANYTHING. I contacted Thred Up regarding this and they did nothing. All the items I sent were in pristine condition, even a Paloma Picasso handbag that I only used once. I am very disappointed and believe this is a very big scam and only Thred Up is the winner.
I sent a bunch of sweaters and jackets in the brands they accept. These items were in pristine condition so I did not pay the $13 up front to have my rejected items returned. Their communications are terrible. I finally found out two months later that they rejected all but 5 items even though most items were duplicates of what they accepted. They offered me a pay out of $19.26, which I was unable to get because the minimum for a pay out was $20. I complained and let them know how I felt. Today I decided to use the pay out to buy something so I could at least get my $19.26. My entire account has been wiped clean. The history has disappeared so it shows that I never sent anything in or have any money available. I feel totally ripped off.
So many choices for my 6 month granddaughter. Knowing that she will outgrow these so fast makes this way of shopping even more enjoyable.
In addition to paying very little money for what they did accept of mine from the 2 bags I sent - I was shocked at how little they paid - they sent back 2 dresses they didn't accept without their belts! How difficult is it to keep stuff together? Both dresses are useless without their belts. Just to make sure they were really sloppy they sent back a pair of shoes but didn't sent the box back. Very sloppy work. Never will send anything again.
The baby clothes that I got were SO cute! I shopped the clearance and paid only $1.49 for most of my items. Can't beat the value! :o)
I am in love with the idea of Thredup! Taking previously loved items and finding them new homes is such an earth friendly idea - less clothes in the landfills. It makes me feel like I'm getting a treat out of helping go green :) that being said, I have just received my second order. It took less than 48 hours to ship and once it arrived 18 out of 18 items fit and only one piece had a slight fraying but that's to be expected since it did have it in the item description. The descriptions and sizing are very accurate in my experience. Thredup has gone above and beyond my expectations thus far and I look forward to my next order!
Can't believe the deal I get with these used clothes! Very gently clothes at that! Beautiful packaging, fast shipping & amazing deals! Thank you!
I fell in love with the recycle and selling of used clothes. Awesome thumbs up to thread up.
This is my second order from thredUP. The first time I ordered 5 items; this time 3. All were just perfect! Meaning that they were exactly as pictured, the price was unbeatable, and the item quality as expected. My only negative would be shipping time, but since it was free I really can't complain.
I'm a photographer working to build a wardrobe of unique, timeless pieces for my clients to wear for glamour, conceptual or boudoir shots. ThredUP is my new go-to source.
Bought two kids North Face jackets. One was ok, but the other one had a hole in the pocket and the previous owners name was written on the label. I understand it is a resale website, but maybe you shouldn't accept clothes with holes and names written on them. Sending the item back
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
