ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

At first I thought Thred Up would be way too expensive but compared to actually hitting a thrift store and digging for hours to find something I like, Thred Up ROCKS. Great idea.
I sent some name brand stuff ( Biden, garnet hill etc) that was not accepted. I feel the prices I was given for what was accepted was fair and I've gotten good buys. Might shop again. Will not resell again.
Clothing is always in condition stated before purchasing and is very quick.
The site is easy to use, the shipping is quick, and everything is in better condition than I expect.
2 garments missing (both the designer ones) got less than $1 each item that they did take. Not what they advertised and not worth the time of loading the bag and finding a FedEx to drop it at. I could have done far better at a local consignment shop or by myself online. I don't recommend it.
Very satisfied with this company so far. Got an awesome discount on my first order and have been very satisfied with the prices on this second order. The clothes are always in great condition and arrive folded perfectly in a cute box. After I place an order I can barely wait for the box to arrive so I can unpack it and try my items on! I'm 25 and trying to build a professional wardrobe, and am so satisfied with the selection, prices, and customer service. Even when items don't fit or you don't like them as much in person, the company makes it easy to return and refund those items. I'll be a repeat customer for a long time :)
The baby clothes were fine, the shoes had some worn lines as if they were folded, they should have been stuffed in the toe to prevent that from happening, I think they are over priced, I like Life Stride shoes, so I will keep them
My stuff was shipped to the wrong place. I was told it would be resent out. I have not gotten any information on this (no email etc). I only learned of the lack of shipment when I went to the FEDEX website. Nothing from ThreadUP. Tried to contact someone during working hours and there is only a general email. I had texted someone before but didn't feel satisfied as I am still not sure how I will get my stuff.
I was thrilled to find gap jeans for my daughter for a third of the price that I would have paid in the store. I was also able to find a discontinued item that she desperately needed. Love the philosophy of promoting the purchase of secondhand items; great movement for our society and environment!
Just placed a big order (~$300) on Thredup (well, actually it was on JULY 23). I have been a loyal customer for a long time; in fact the night I placed this order of about 14 items, I referred someone to Thredup who did end up purchasing. I just started a new job in an extremely well-known nonprofit. I do not have a lot of money but I need to be business formal for interviews, meetings, and photo ops. I ordered through Thredup before I even started. I have recently moved and accidentally kept my old address. All I wanted was a simple address change. The first person I talked to said no problem and that it was taken care of; he then sent me a review option and I gave him full marks. Days passed by and although my shipping info stated "rerouted, no action needed", something just did not smell right. After five phone calls and various emails later, turns out no one, not even Thredup, knows where my order is. Their only solution was to refund me, no answer to an expedited shipping refund (I NEED these clothes starting MONDAY), let alone any hope of talking to an actual person. Absolutely disgusting. I have since taken back every good review, and every in-person referral I have given them thus far (I get asked almost daily about my outfits). I was previously a LikeTwice.com follower. They affiliated with Ebay and disappeared. I gave Thredup a chance and when I really, TRULY needed them, they MESSED UP. I'm not even confident that they will successfully figure out how to refund me. I am MAD. DO NOT trust important orders to these guys, I have yet to see any real resolution. SOOOOOO disappointed, can't even begin to express. I counted on them and they failed.
All of the pieces I have purchased have looked brand new. The quality and ease with purchases and returns it excellent. My new favorite site.
I bought 1 pair of name band boots for like $15.00 with my first purchase, with the 40% off, loved them so much, turned around and bought 8 high quality, name brand sweaters and 2 long sleeved shirts all for less than $200.00 total, which was about the retail value of one. I am a petite small and all the items fit perfect. I am very happy with my purchase and will be purchasing more items in the future. Also sent in some clothing that I no longer wear to them. The reviews are not good on money paid out for clothing sent to them, but that's OK because I was just going to give them away any how.
There are so many choices, that it's almost overwhelming. It is also difficult to sort and search in a logical way. I wish you could search entire outfit at the same time. Or perhaps add a feature that allows you to save items while you're putting them together.
Great quality. Like brand new. I ordered two skirts for my grandaughter to add to her school clothes for this year. Arrived quickly. Thrilled to shop at Threadup!
The shipping was fast and and wrapped so nice. I bought the Plaid Coach Purse if you find a black long strap is what its missing please let me know and if it is reasonable i would like to see a pic and would buy it.
Just received a gorgeous Italian leather purse, looks almost new, at a fantastic price! Easy, fast transaction with value-priced trackable shipping. Recommend!
This is a sweet app if you don't mind wearing secondhand clothes (which I don't, growing up with lots of relatives and friends). The only disadvantage of shopping this way is that you can't really make a cart, since the items are really first come, first serve, but I think that is a really minor complaint with the unbeatable prices and up-to-date fashion choices. It's a whole new way to thrift shop, and I am definitely a fan.
I have order from ThredUp twice and both times I have been very pleased with the quality, speed of delivery, and value of the items I have ordered. Will definitely continue shop the site.
Ordered 3 jackets. 2 dresses, pair of shoes & a child's sweater - all like new. Calvin Klein & Ann Taylor were the two dress designers and Anne Klein was the shoe designer. All items were true to their sizes and fit perfect.
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
