ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

Thredup has the worse contact and communication. I request non salinger merchandise to donate. I am charged for return of 4 full bags and have 4 full bags left since February 2023. No phone contact, no email satisfaction reply, no text satisfaction reply and no mail reply. All sent and received by Technology. This is a WARNING I enjoy buying for years but this negative nightmare has cause me unnecessary stress and I will not patronize your business.
Good selection but very slow to receive - still waiting nine days from order date. Could have better return policy.
I use to use thredup with it being convenient of getting spaces in my closet and getting some money for it. Even with the sale of 1 shirt, at least I can get a dollar back, even with the large payout. But with the charge of $14.99 for each cleanup bag, I can no longer get any money even with the sale of 1 shirt. Usually I use poshmark and thredup, but now I'm gonna stick with poshmark. At least with a sale of 1 small item, I can get at least dollar or two back.
Out of 30+ high quality items sent to thredup, only 5 pieces listed. Who knows what will happen to the rest, as there is no real transparency here. I'm left to assume they still make money on the remaining items in ways that avoid a payout. I understand the model and of course they need to turn a profit, but don't expect many or any of your items to be listed for your benefit. I wish I would have just given these away locally to have a better sense they would be used appreciated. NOT WORTH IT AND FEELS SCAMMY.
I had quality clothing. After they.sold it. I got $3.03! Modern day Jesse James! Stay away... I would have been better off giving to Goodwill!
I just ordered 3 prs of excellent condition pants. One was not as described other had a gum stain that can't be removed. I've ordered sweaters they had snags in them. A pair of white jean shorts with a ink stain
Won't be buying there again
I went though the process of shopping and choosing a few items. I viewed my cart and began the checkout process, even choosing a delivery option. I could not get past putting in my credit card info, though the card is entirely valid. I reached out to customer support, giving them my phone #. They finally got back to me, 3days later, saying they do not do telephone customer support. THE END. A total waste of my time.
Measurement given on items are not very accurate. I order 10 tops, and only 5 of them fit. The other 5 are smaller than what the measurement listed in product descriptions for the shirts.
Fedex says Thred up must contact them to correct wrong delivery, that is, contact the delivery person for the package, have them retrieve it from incorrect mail room - they would immediately recognize the room- and then correct the delivery! It's so easy and involves a slight effort but Thredup just blew me off and said they could not do it. Non existent customer service. Apparently it is not factored in to their business model. Angry and disappointed.
Torrid announced a team-up with thredUp, encouraging customers to donate lightly used clothes for resale. I signed up and never got the prepaid label to send clothes to. ThredUp sent a broken link and never replied to emails for assistance. Not a good look for this company at all.
Don't send you clothes here. Don't work here. Ridiculously high turnover rate. You will get fired for something as small as having your phone charger out on station but no phone or get written up for taking a family emergency call during non break periods.
All of management is just one big clique. They are very shady and they lie to cover their own tails. Inbound area manager was one of the worst things about working there. She targeted anyone who she didn't like. Leads and supervisors are no different. Only genuine people working there are the employees and they get treated very poorly. I hope this place and all the other remain locations get shut down. They are scam artists hiding in plain sight.
I've received numerous items that weren't as described, stating online that items were "like new". When received, they had stains, holes, and very obvious signs of wear.
Customer service was very rude when I requested to return an item that was "non-returnable", due to incompetence on their part.
I wasted an hour of my time, due to someone else incompetence.
I've deleted my app and will never do business with them again.
So I went on site and saw 2 items on sale withe the code. When I went to checkout they took code off and wouldn't let me use it. This is a very sketchy site. Customer service is non existent. First tome I ordered the coat said excellent condition but when I received it front down the zipper was totally flaking off as I lifted it out of the box. No one would contact me back. You order at your own risk. Not trustworthy site.
I have bought ALOT of clothing from thredup, loved everything. I love the fact that you can bundle and add things to your cart throughout the week. I read a lot of reviews of people complaining about over priced items, but it's honestly just quality clothing. You go into other thrift stores, there's holes, stains, threading missing. Thredup only sells items that are tip notch second hand, which is why they are priced the way they are. Not to mention, it's like receiving a gift in the mail. When you open the box, it's like "yay!". Looking for a cheap way to shop, but want quality, I would definitely recommend thread up. I have purchased from shein and all those fast fashion sites, cheap waste of money. I've washed clothing that's from shein that just fell apart. At thredup, you can purchase second hand quality items and spend the same amount of money that you would at shein and help by purchasing clothing people no longer want. I will never shop anywhere else. Now for selling, that's a whole other thing. If your looking to get rid of clothes and dont really care what your making, yes, do it! But if your looking to make money selling, no. They only sell LIKE NEW/ BRAND items. So don't be upset when sending them rue 21, shein, gap, stained, hole clothing, they will just sell it themselves cause they can only make a profit or they will do good with it in other ways. Hope this helps!
I got some good deals but i waited for a 60% free shipping sale. First 2 purchases were ok, but 3rd box reeked of disinfectant. I washed clothes twice and line dried for 2 weeks outside to air items out. Descriptions don't always match, especially the condition, LOOK at the photos. Item may say excellent condition but you can see pilling and stains in the photos. I saw a used version of a top on Thredup that was new at tjmaxx for $7 LESS. The payouts for consignment arent' really worth it. Make sure you research the payout matrix. I sent 60 items, 9 were listed (ralph lauren shirt wasn't listed, they don't take brand new never worn Aero tshirts but don't say that on website, Wrangler jeans weren't accepted, good quality, but if they don't think brand will sell they won't list it). 6 of my items have sold which is great, but the payout for a vintage Paris Blues perfect condition jacket was 50 cents, a $120 pair of worn twice booties had a $14 payout... You "pay" shipping to send in your items, they don't "charge you" for it but deduct from what you sell, but not the sales price, your payout price, so by the time they recoup their shipping cost you make very little. Even charities should be accountable. I found some great vintage stuff but now shop on Poshmark, they have cheaper shipping.
I sold 9 items and after shipping received $3 items didn't sell and those would have been the most profitable. They do not give you enough of your the profit to make it worth the hassle. Save yourself the headache and donate your goods instead.
I have ordered from this company recently and was sent an item that was clearly not the same color as the picture ( soft pink vs flourescent) Sadly, they haven't followed up via email. Also, two of the items were shrunk from the original size. BUYER BEWARE, as 1 of the 3 items is non-returnable. I really want to like this company, but will not be using them because they failed to 1) advertise correctly 2) follow through 3) you get charged for each return. SO in the end, you might as well buy elsewhere or new.
I do not recommend sending your clothes to thredup. They give your clothes a very short period of time to sell. If they do not sell in that time frame, you must elect to have them sent back to you or take the "cents" that they will pay out. Most people will opt for them to keep and donate. However, they will keep the clothes and sell at a higher price for longer period of time. Which means, I receive advertisements about the clothes I essentially donated to them.
I bought a beautiful red vintage jacket on thredUP.
Great Service! Great Price! Great Packaging! A plus!
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
