I was required by Spokeo to provide credit card info to verify my washer. They assured me out would never be charged, nor stored by them. I've now been charged at least two time for 25. I'm furious.

Do NOT trust this site. They will fraudulently charge you. Better to go to their competitors.

Don't waste your money
August 26, 2022

Spokeo leads you to believe there is more information available (name, location, etc) on a phone number you're investigating. So you pay the small. 95 fee. I imagine this company is making quite a bit of money charging lots of people $. 95 for nothing. Don't fall for it!
(It would get ZERO star rating if it was an option)

Scam
January 13, 2022

Great one time offer! Paid. 95 and didn't get $#*! besides the carrier and city, which I already knew. This caller is a possible threat and I want to know his identity in case he attacks me and my family tonight.

Buyer beware
December 10, 2021

This is the typical case of highway robbery. You sign up for 1 (one) search for which you pay with your credit card. Small print apparently commits you to a 7 day "free" subscription, but you don't know that. Then after the 7 days are over, your credit card is charged $24.95 for one month of searches. The searches are very limited and sometimes not accurate or updated, in those cases when you do have the correct information. You basically get a phone number and some other basic information. When you want to go beyond that basic information you will be charged an outrageous amount. What happened to the old fashioned white pages?

Do not use Spokeo
April 17, 2023

2 years ago I must have signed up for a one time use or trial. Today I realized I have been billed for 24 months, which is $598! In the last 2 years I have never used their services. A company who continues to charge you even though someone does not use their services means shady business! The reason it went undetected is because in my transactions the charge is labeled as shopping. I'm am utterly sad and disappointed I lost so much money just like that.

Watch out for hidden charges
July 27, 2022

I took advantage of their $0.95 trial offer to check a phone number that I was concerned was involved with Medicare fraud. Apparently hidden somewhere on one of their web pages presented was a notification that I was also being signed up for a continuing subscription service. I didn't find this out until I got my credit card bill and was charged $24.95 instead of the expected $0.95 (this was for the original lookup and the first month with 7 days "free"). Very deceptive and a completely useless service for anyone that needs to look up a single telephone number.

The service is already a high monthly payment but yet you get no information unless you pay more. Cancel and they still charge your bank. Write to them and they won't refund. Now i have to change my bank account number. Stay away! Use another service.

I used this service. I was provided with useful information. However, the way the billing read, I was signing up for a one time service, not a subscription. Nonetheless, I was billed twice more and my credit card did not protect me. When I tried to cancel, I could not get logged on to cancel. Moreover, despite Spokeo indicating that I would receive an email to reset my password, these emails never came. The customer service ultimately connected and I received a partial refund for one of the two months billed. Yes, a case could be made that I did not pay close enough attention to the "Free 7 - day trial" which then gets billed monthly if you do not cancel. However, this is strikes me as a shady practice and I encourage any user of this service to use it with wide open eyes.

So, I tried Spokeo for their trial period and cancelled the same day. Surprisingly, I find that they had my account set on a recurring payment plan. When I called them on this, they say that they can only refund a portion of what they errant you charged me! Anyone want to go in on a Class Action lawsuit?

Dodgy or what?

Spokeo claim to provide a reverse email service.
I input a string of gibberish purporting to be a Hotmail.com address.

The Spokeo search engine claimed it had found the email!
I could see the report if I paid a subscription up front!

I repeated the exercise with another nonsense email. Same result. As they write in their spiel the results might shock me. I don't doubt it. I don't think It's worth even a single star rating but I can't submit this review without it.

Spokeo is bogus

I signed up and paid for a Spokeo report of myself. Imagine my surprise to learn I have a middle name! And relatives I have never heard of or met, even though they lived with me!
I contacted Spokeo to have these and other errors corrected, but was told there was no way of doing that. The only option was to delete my name and all (bogus) information from their website. So of course I did. In my experience, Spokeo is an irresponsible, potentially dangerous clown show.

I wanted one phone number search for $0.95 on 2/12/2021, and then was somehow signed up for a subscription. So I was billed $24.95 on 2/20/2021. Then Spokeo only offered to not renew my subscription starting in March when I complained. When I further pressed for a full refund, because I did not want (nor used) the the subscription service, they only refunded $10 of the $24.95. I'm guessing this is how Spokeo generates income & is a very suspect business practice in my opinion.

I bought a one time phone number look up of a person that I was making a purchase from out of state, with Spokeo. The fee of.95 cents was supposed to be a one time charged to my PayPal account, or so I thought. PayPal emailed me that I had been charged $29.95 for a membership fee, that I had not purchased or signed up for. After sending an email to Spokeo regarding this charge, and this unsolicited sign up, they only refunded $11.98, keeping the difference. What a scam! I would NOT recommend doing business with them!

The person I was searching for turned out to have died in 1995 which Spokeo did NOT find--I learned this later on Ancestry.com. Since I could find very little actual information, I cancelled within 24 hours and was still billed for a contracted service. I called the company and to their credit the representative was quick and professional and refunded the billing amount and ensured that my service was actually cancelled. Would not recommend in any way.

Bad Business practices
November 5, 2021

I was helping my parent fill out an application for Social Security. They could not remember the exact date they were married. I wanted to look it up just to be sure. I purchase the report and it gives information that I already know but not the wedding date, that was extra. I didn't want to spend even more money on it, I wanted just the report. What do they do? After 7 days they bill me for their monthly service. Because I didn't cancel in time, I get billed and cannot be refunded the entire amount. Monica did get me a partial refund but the no refund policy is so that they can sell single reports at a ridiculous amount of money.

My name is Lam and I just have realized that I have paid your monthly subscription of 29,90 dollars. I was not aware of that... I only did an small payment of 1 dollar to see if your product worked, and it didn't. Been talking with them and they won't give me a full refund. Service does not work and they will steal your money.

Waste of money

The results are identical to what you would get with a simple google search. Then it teases you to pay more for more information, which turns out to be no i=additional information simply reiterates the previous results. Leaves out other records birth, marriage, property, and others that are relatively easy to find using public sites.

March 22, 2022

According to my account I have been a subscriber for over a year thats over $300 taken from my bank accounts. I never received a single report. The one email I searched a year ago never came back with any report or information. And its cost me needlessly, avoid this company at all costs.

Deceptive practices, overpriced, information not current. Customer service is a joke. Been verified much better.

Clickbait At It's Finest

I was searching for information related to an email address so of course Spokeo ad popped up and said they had information but immediately after entering my credit card info they said they actually had no information. Don't give your money to this scam company.
