May 25 I sent a complaint to Spokeo about the accuracy of a phone number trace. Then I noticed a law suit they were involved in with the FTC and FCRA. Google SPOKEO LAWSUITS and see for yourself. They have a serious problem with the accuracy of their reports.

I had a problem with a phone number I tried to trace. Turns out it was on the verizon network and could be run for free through verizons web site for friends of verizon by entering the number. Spokeo said the number was a landline. I mean DUH. YOu should have known better. I sent Spokeo a note and got this response. It appears they think their terms of use and disclaimer over rides the fact they said WE HAVE A MATCH ON THE NUMBER. Here is their response.

Dear John,

Thank you for your email.

I'm sorry to hear that our service did not meet your expectations. Our phone listings typically can provide more information. However, certain numbers are simply not found in our phone directory and may not yield full or accurate results.

Our Terms of Use states clearly that we are a People Search Engine, and do not create, maintain or modify any of the information you see. Instead, this information is gathered from a multitude of sources, such as social networks, public records, phone listings, marketing surveys and more. For this reason, we cannot guarantee full or accurate information for every name, phone number or email address you search for, as the results vary so much from person to person. Spokeo's data reflects that of the original sources, and our engineers are working hard on new algorithms to improve our data accuracy. I do apologize again for the inconvenience.

May 26, 2015.............UPDATE...........May 26, 2015..........UPDATE

The above letter / e-mail is what I received from David with no last name at Spokeo.

Please note...........This response was in May of 2014. I cancelled the subscription.
Problem is, I paid with my debit card.

In Oct 2014 I was given a new ATM card with a different number.

March 2015..........a review of my account with new number showed 14.95 Spokeo charge. This charge was never authorized by me.

May 2015..........a review of my bus account showed another charge by Spokeo of 14.95 charged to my new card.

Complaint filed with bank and card authorizing agency. I do not know how you did this Spokeo. I told you I did not want your service anymore, I got an ok from you in writing to cancel my membership. Six months later I changed the card.

IN 2015 you managed to find my new card number and charge it twice.
I hope to see how you did this. I am pursuing a complaint and charge back.
Your quality of service / accuracy leaves a lot to be desired.
Your acknowledgement to cancel a subscription leaves a lot to be desired at this point.

Dear spokeo
Your response sounds like a bot that did not read the entire complaint thoroughly.
If you can read the complaint again, you will see where I cancelled your subscription and changed my debit card twice. I would be more impressed if you gave your full name and a back line number.
Plus, you have my email as I showed the letter from David at Spokeo. How can you advertise as a search engine / people finder, find my changed debit card and not find a way to reach me?

Dear John,

We're sorry to hear about this. Our phone listings usually can provide more information, however Spokeo does not originate or create data, so our data reflects that of the original sources. It sounds like there is an active subscription on your account. We want to make sure to help you, so please contact our Customer Care team at CustomerCare@spokeo.com or by calling 1-888-906-0850 and explain your concerns. Thanks!
