I had used this site once before (2014) and had no qualms over using Spokeo again.
The family needed information on an aunt that sort of 'disappeared' sometime in the 1970s. Within minutes, I had the needed info.
Not sure why the negative reviews are so angry... the site does exactly what it states it will accomplish.
I had the one-week free trial after buying one search. At the end of the week, I called Customer Service and spoke to Alex. An absolute pleasure to speak to her! Professional, articulate, and friendly. The cancellation was smooth and quick.
It would be wonderful if she could train ALL c. S. agents.

I did do a one time purchse for 99 cents.The Spokeo scam-artists started billing me at $24.95 for a subscription that i never subscribed to. They will defraud the elderly and steal money from your credit card too.

I give it two stars, not because the info and search features are substandard but because my account was closed by this company with the supposed rationale they perceive me as making hiring, etc decisions based on the info I find. (Against their corporate policy and agreement.) Huh? I wrote back and said I am simply a nosy person who wants to have bases covered and how would they determine such a thing by my account activity? Of course, I get only vague answers that tell me nothing. The closest I have come to making a decision of a similar sort is to check out men I am thinking of dating. Guess checking out someones truer story before I proceed with a personal relationship is considered a "hiring" decision.

Bit disappointing
February 6, 2017

I've paid for subscription and the reverse email search came up to nothing. I can find more on my own just using general google search. Also, when I tried searching my own email, it came up with a meager 2 or 3 pieces of information. Not at all exhaustive as Google search engine pulled up a ton more. May I get a refund?

Don't do it
November 30, 2022

I don't even remember signing up for spokeo. It must have been a whim or maybe I thought I canceled but didn't. I saw the $24.95 charge on my credit card statement and had no idea what spoke was. I called them and canceled. I then researched in my email and found an original confirmation of signing up from back in June. $24.95 is way too much for this type of service even if I had used it more than once. Lesson learned, and remember to check your credit cards statements to catch these kind of money drains. Another complaint I have is there was never a follow-up reminding me that I had a subscription, asking my opinion of the service or flagging that my credit card was charged. I'm betting this company makes most of it's money on unused subscriptions like mine.

Deceptive Ad.

This site requires submission of your pesonal information before providing minimalist info and requires FEES $$
before any USEFUL details as offered in the original displayed Ad. You can deny any further participation but they then use your info to continuously send texts and e-mail offers. Unsubscribe and they continue with months of further Ads. Calling them directly doesn't have an satisfying imediate effect. Beware of third party trackers like Google that re-provide your information again! #

I signed up for the trial for unlimited searches and in my mind that's information that goes with those searches. I find out, not only do they want $29 a month for searches, but another $25-$30 for court record access, then another $25-$30 for relationship access, and another $25-$30 for every single category. What a HUGE waste of my time! The so called trial doesn't give you squat. Look somewhere else, don't waste your time. I'm extremely displeased with this site, the information you are given, you could find it anywhere for free so not sure what exactly they think unlimited searches is providing anyone.

This is a joke!

This is a joke! After promising "full information" in all categories, I paid for my three month subscription and found "information not available" in every category! It's a pyramid scheme. "Well, if we didn't provide you the information you wanted, perhaps you'd like to try our next higher membership level, and see if we"ll deliver".(Paraphasing)
If Spokeo offers access to all information, and doesn't deliver, how can this site still be in business?.

Spokeo is well established company with 16 years history. Management cares a lot about employees and customers. Company has very well focused goals and do their best to satisfy customer. The company offers excellent benefit package to employees like unlimited PTO, fully covered medical, dental benefits and 401k, well covered travel expenses. Great culture team with lot events. Flexible work from home option. Most of the teammates and managers I work with are awesome. For me it is one of my best company in my entire career. I had 16 years experience in USA. This is the only company that gives good merit based raise two times in a year and 5-10% of salary as bonus.

Spokeo has been charging me $20 monthly since July 2018! As a student who keeps my card on autopay, I did not notice this until they had charge me $400. This is money that I do NOT HAVE and cannot afford. They never sent any emails of a monthly bill or anything. That tells you a lot about their shady business practices.

Be careful
October 13, 2020

These people will randomly charge your card for amounts you didn't approve. I had to call and cancel my card. They don't tell you this at any time that they will later charge you 20 something dollars and then again a week after that. And the information they provide anyone can find themselves.

They make it seem like you're going to pull up every deep dark secret from the deep dark web. They couldn't give me a correct address or current phone number their database sucks. I could have thrown a rock in the ocean and hit more information.

Canceled immediately and they still auto renewed.

In addition the date is not up to date, it shows the prior owner of our house as the owner, even though we have owned it for 40 + years. All emails are incorrect, only 1 phone number is correct, and information is less than what I get on. Google search.

These people know what they are doing, and it sounds to me like they just don't care. They have all the answers. I've called the BBB to complain and will continue to file complaints until they return my money. I certainly hope that if all the people who have had a bad experience with them, do the same. Maybe, we can all be responsible for putting them out of business. Local media in your area may be willing to help as well!

Scammed me for 24 USD
August 18, 2021

They asked for a one time transaction of 95 cents and several days later they withdrew 24 USD from my account. Paypal wouldn't do anything about it, so the only think I can do is to warn other people about it

Note that Spokeo, unlike most reputable sites doesn't show a pricing list. Try to find out the pricing before signing up -- its nearly impossible, unless you start using the service. And then as you go along the hidden upgrades pop up and each one adds to your overall monthly bill. There is something dark and scam-ish about Spokeo. I used it for two years, but as they kept limiting features (and then charging for features that used to be part of the premium package), I decided it was not worth it. I'm glad I left Spokeo, I don't want to be associated with a site that seems to be operated by grifters.

Spokeo strikes again
May 16, 2022

Paid a one-time fee for a name search, and low behold got charged. $24.95 for a service/subscription non wants. See this happens frequently. Can't Be Too Careful. Requested a refund from them, and stopped payments from my Paypal account

Happily, I just received refund checks from Spokeo and Bizshark. Same company, same address. I worked with my credit card company, who went into action right ans credited my account for over $400! The credits and the checks came quickly. I never signed up for these and didn't study my credits card statements, husband ill, but when I did I was shocked.
Ask for your money back.

Dear Alice,
We understand your concern. In order for a Spokeo subscription to be created, a user must navigate to our website at www.spokeo.com and either click on the "Sign Up" button or perform a search and click on the "Get Full Results" button. The user would then be required to enter in a full 16 digit credit or debit card number along with the card's matching security code, cardholder name, card expiration date, card billing zip code, and enter a valid email address that becomes the username associated with the account. Once this information has been entered, the Terms of Use agreement must be checked and agreed to and then the "Purchase" button must be hit. Once these actions are completed and the information is verified as valid and matching, the user must then fill out a brief survey and set an account password to begin using the subscription. A purchase confirmation receipt is also sent to the account's email address. Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions or concerns.
