It's really stupid that I have to pay money to use the messaging feature on Roomster. There are loads of different websites that offer free messaging features and for some reason this one charges. I really don't understand it.
The tone of the positive reviews just don't add up. I would not be surprised if Roomster hired an agency to create the reviews. Many of the reviewers have a few reviews in their profile, but if you check them, they do 2-4 reviews on one day (to add credibility) and then none whatsoever again.
Signed up for the trial period then was charged the $30. As much as that hurt my bank account (im not working and attempting to relocate from Missouri to DC so every penny counts) I can only be made at myself for not looking up reviews beforehand and not paying attention to the fine print.
This app should offer a free version where you can communicate with a certain number of members before having to pay. The cost and lengths of membership are ridiculous. I don't recommend this site and the validity of finding a good roommate. Craigslist is just as easy, just meet up with someone ahead of time.
I moved over to NYC from London in January and started out couch surfing. It was great at first but after a while I got really tired of moving from place to place. I was moving to NYC permanently anyways so I decided I needed to find a real home. House sharing is very popular in London so I was really happy to find Roomster.com because I had used similar sites in London before! It made the process of finding an apartment so much easier! I moved into a great flat in midtown New York and share it with three great people! Thank you Roomster.com!
I used to have this horrible roommate who was unbearable to live with and I promised myself I would never go through that again willingly. On my next roommate search I did a lot of research about the best place to find good candidates and I determined Roomster was my best choice. After creating an account and starting to look through their listings it was clear that id be able to find a good fit with the abundance of people they have on the site. I messaged back and forth with a few people before I signed with a girl in her mid twenties that was a nursing student. We’ve been living together for near six months now and it has been without incident.
I first found out about Roomster this morning. I heard back from 2 potential "roommates" posting rooms on Craigslist who asked that I use their links to create an account on Roomster so I can see pictures of the apartment & continue our communications.
Thinking it was just a similar site to CL, I went ahead and created an account. There, I quickly found I'm only able to look at apartments but unable to contact users without paying for a monthly subscription. Even more frustrating is the results that show up under my search criteria. I typed in New York NY but saw results from all over Harlem, Queens, Brooklyn and beyond. If I wanted to live off the island, I would've chosen those locations.
I feel misled by Roomster's business practices, and would not recommend.
Warning, this is a oversea's business. I am warning you about this company obtaining your credit card info and the difficulty is stopping the charges. I had cancelled my credit card and believe it or not they found my new account and charged me again. I'm warning you to stay away from Roomster.com. The worst part is I never obtained any good room-mate leads from this service as well as the difficulty I had in cancelling my service with them. Buyer be ware!
I’ve only used this website once. But holy cow I did not expect it to be easy to find a new house! It took me less than two weeks to find a place and seriously not much trouble at all. I am now living with two (very attractive, not complaining) girls and a guy that I have a bunch in common with and he’s my bro now. I’m a happy dude!
My real estate broker tried to pull a fast one on me and neglected to tell me about the broker’s fee, which I’m pretty sure, is illegal. Anyway, I found this site and decided to try it out and I am very glad that I did. Found a great place to rent and best of all no shady broker to deal with!
Roomster to me is a joke of a roommate finding site. I was looking to find clients for massage and came across some weird people on here. Some of the men I've communicated with are married looking for happy endings which to me makes the massage field look trashy and low class. The behavior of some of the people on here makes you wonder how trashy they make the massage field with them asking for happy endings when your client should want the session to be kept professional. Either way screen everyone you meet on roommate finding sites so you know who is coming to your place of business or your personal residence.
Why would you be using Roomster to promote your massage business? This is a fake negative review.
I don't like having to pay to view messages. Also, there's a note under the privacy policies that says that after my 5 day subscription ends, it'll start charging $24 every 30 days unless I cancel. I really don't appreciate that system.
My boss recently had his cousin from Spain come in to work at our company. We run a shopping mall. The cousin was going to lead a new mobile division and I was tasked with finding him a place to stay when he got here. I used Roomster to find him a room to rent in a beautiful place a few minutes away from our offices. The whole process was super easy and painless and it was super convenient when he arrived we were able to get him setup in his new place right away. Great site, great service. Extremely simple and easy to use. Highly recommend.
When a friend told me they found a great room share on Roomster I checked it out because I was having trouble finding something affordable through my real estate broker. Amazingly I found a great room that was well within my budget with some really cool people that was in very close proximity to my work, stoked to tell my friends about this site!
I had a problem with a previous roommate who was a serious smoker, although my building did not allow it. We ended up kicking them out and we created a listing on Roomster to fill the space. Thankfully Roomster allows you to choose all the “lifestyle” traits of the person you are looking for so we were able to weed out all the smokers.
The last time I paid for the 5 day subscription 99% of the people that sent me a message were not even close to the location I'm looking to live. No one reads my listing. I actually don't know why I'm wasting my money again. Hopefully this time the people will be more legitimate.
It was unclear that i had to purchase a membership before i could read messages. Kind of weird that i get an email from you saying a potential roommate left me a message, but i can't read it until i pay for a membership. That would be fine if i'd been informed at the beginning. Instead, while it's not a lot of money, it feels sleazy.
I just feel like its scam making people pay to speak to anyone - I dont even see a preview before paying. If someone sent a message and i can read it but not reply, then that makes sense. But why send notifications for messages all the time but i need a credit card to open it? Sounds like scam.
Have to pay if you want to even read an email from another member. So I paid 3 days, just to find out that the "messages" I had received were of absolutely no information. I ended up being charged more after 3 days and I should not have had to pay the 3 days as it was. Will never go onto the sight again. I recommend staying away.
Nothing but spam. Renewed twice for two different 3 day subscriptions and all the do is spam peoples email on Craigslist. No real contacts. No real inquires.
Take caution people. They will take your money with no success
Joe, Your statements are incorrect. Every account on Roomster was created using a 3rd party social login like FB, twitter or Google and we record all logins. We also do not post or spam anything or anyone of craigslist, and do not have control over what we are not responsible for. The order number given, is not a real order number so I can not verify that you evern have an account on Roomster.
Answer: We do not post on Craigslist and do not spam or send any messages like this.

Answer: These are untrue statements. We have asked our many satisfied customers to post their positive experiences about Roomster to counteract the negative, and mostly untrue statements posted about us. If you notice that Sitejabber has negative reviews of almost every company doing business in the united states. If it was all true, there would be no business left and everyone would be out of work. People never write good reviews, people love to be negative. Its sad.
Answer: Hi Aminah, Roomster did not post that ad on Craigslist, we did not create that link and there fore we can not offer support for it. This looks to be one of our affiliates, who should not be doing this. We will be removing this person from our affiliate program. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Answer: That makes little to no sense. Undeleted? What does that even mean? N you want to create an account after you deleted it? Go ahead.

Hi Ricardo, I'm not familiar with your case, but we would never charge your account without your authorization, subscription terms are not just in the fine print, but actually visibly posted, and also emailed to you, with instructions on how to cancel and avoid any additional charges. I am sure that if you contact our 24/7 help desk with this billing issue, a refund would be granted :)
