Tried using this site to locate a roommate. In all of Greater Cincinnati there were only two or three people actively looking for roommates. There were plenty of profiles, just not active profiles.
The site was totally useless.
I have never had to pay to check messages. Usually the landlord pays for everything with the listing and potential tenants look for free. Most of us are tight on cash due to moving and this feels wrong.
Dont do business with this site. They automatically renew you for a 30 dollar subscription. When you ask them about it, they say, 'well you signed TWO agreements'.
They exploit people who do not catch their clause which states they will automatically renew the subscription. There customer service is horrible. I ask a question about a refund and I get an argument instead.
They clear of these people. They dont deserve customers.
I used this website to find a room when I moved to New York from New Hampshire. I like how it is set up and how you can search in different areas it just makes things so easy and with a wide range of places offered. In the end I found a great place in walking distance to my school and with everything I need in the neighborhood. Everybody should use Roomster!
Roomster is a total scam. They show you all these rooms but none are real. The people never get the message you send them and the same rooms up for a long period of time that are labeled NEW. Do not sign up or give them your money!
I've been getting a lot of email notifications about people messaging me on the site but they are not specifically replying to my listing or post. I messaged over a dozen people and have not gotten a single reply. I don't feel that people are using the site seriously or often enough to see the messages and reply in a couple days. I also feel that the quality of the people is not high enough to expect them to communicate quickly or they may have forgotten about signing up all together.
I've been getting a lot of email notifications about people messaging me for maybe a room but I don't believe they are real people who want to rent my room. I feel like this is all just to get me to sign up and pay.
I don't understand how a lot of these people haven't been verified on their phone numbers or email it says more information about the person is coming shouldn't it be there being that we're looking for roommates
Completely agree with the person from Boston who said they're hiring people to post fake craigslist ads to hook people into using their site. Now, admittedly, I can't prove any connection, but three fake reviews that redirect me to their site later? Right. Not to mention this seems to be a consistent problem around the web. I would avoid this company at all costs. Honestly, it needs to be shut down, but in this deregulated "$#*!-the-consumer" world? Unlikely. Just stay away.
Anyways, I decided to take a look around their site anyways, and it was horrible. There were almost no results and the ones that I know should have been listed weren't. There were constant glitches, things refused to load, the maps function worked great until it didn't, etc. It's not only fraudulent and a scam, but it doesn't even work.
Also, pretty sure the positive reviews are scams too. They sound like BS to me.
Completely misleading and probably fraudulent.
Useless search functions (ie./cannot limit to particular neighborhoods), and misplaced ads all over - roommate seekers in rentals section, etc.
And so far as I can tell, the vast majority of listings are fictional - if they were ever honestly posted, they have long since been inactive. I made dozens of inquiries without receiving a single response.
I don't mind paying for a service, but in this case, there is NO service to be had, whatsoever.
I just realized I got automatically charged $30 extra also, after my 3 days have ended! Of course, the phone number they provided had a brief automated message redirecting us back to their stupid website for assistance, no live person. How convenient. What a bunch of crooks! I'm so going to report them to BBB, we have to shut these scammers down!
Unable to change name to nickname without canceling and starting a new account then being charged twice even though they said they would transfer earlier paid fee. Will address it with my credit card firm when I get the bill. Only gonna pay once.
This site is a fraud, fake, a total joke. They misrepresent the cost, say your only paying for limited time ($7.95 for x days) then bam! $24.95 shows up on charge (F@@K you with fine BS print that wasn't clear upfront).
Just because a reviewer post a negative review does not make it true. See Matt McGowan's transaction screenshot & the receipt that was sent to him via email.
All Roomster subscription charges were authorized by you at the time of purchase and a receipt was sent to you with instructions how and when to cancel to avoid any additional charges.

Roomster is actively directing spam at people who post 'housing wanted' ads on Craigslist. Within 30 minutes of posting an ad looking for a rental house with rather specific requirements, I started receiving a steady stream of text messages using Google URL shortener to hide the fact that they were forwarding to Roomster's site. They're not actually useful posts at all, it's all a tactic to get you to sign up for their crap service. The texts are all identical, but from different phone numbers. A screenshot is included with this review.
If you read through there reviews here on SiteJabber, you can see that a huge number of them appear to be blatantly (and comically) fake.
Stay away, and if posting a 'housing wanted' ad to Craigslist, stick to email responses.

Daniel, you make many claims that are just not true. How do you come up with your statement that "vast majority of listings are fictional" This is a ridiculous statement. Every listing on Roomster is user supplied content. They are posted by people who have created an account using 1 of 3 social logins needed to create an account on Roomster. We record an ip address for every account creation, every login and monitor all activity done on each account. The location of each property is added by the member, and is displayed according to the address entered based on google's address api. We wish you could have asked us these questions via our 24/7 support help desk.
Encountered a scam artist. Grateful intuition, sleuthing support from friends, and an Air BnB host spared me the loss. But I did give personal info to the fraudster. Hoping paying for messaging will reduce that risk going forward.
I don't know what it is but dealing with real estate brokers in NY is absolutely terrible. Had one that was so paranoid that me and my roommate were gng to circumvent her and sign a lease directly w the landlord she called me every hour trying to dissuade me, even though I assured her we had no intention of doing anything of the sort. Eventually we just ignored all communications w her as it became too unbearable. A friend of ours told us he paid $90 for a Roomster subscription (as opposed to the crazy brokers fee they would have charged) and found an incredible, affordable place in a much shorter time-frame than the three months we spent working with two different brokers. We checked out the site and were really happy with it. We found something that we absolutely loved and the best part, no brokers fee!
Leads were bad, fake, scams... And I signed up for 3 days only to try and then they automatically charged my card for a month. When I tried calling to dispute it, they don't have anyone to answer the phone and you have to go online, where there is not even a way to email them.
I've wasted a lot of time and opportunities because they $#*!ing love to spam every website, haven't used their service and never will. I just hate it when I spend hours "when I don't really have time to do so* searching for real estate then all what I get from those fake people is referrals links! A service thinks this twisted way shouldn't be trusted!
This is not a customer of Roomster, as this reviewer himself stated, he's never used Roomster and has no experience using our site at all. We do not know anything about the nature of his issues. Its too bad that someone would post a bad review if they never even used our service.
I posted a listing on craigslist about wanting an apartment. In 2 hours I received 4 text messages from different numbers all promoting roomster. I never showed any interest in roomster and I did not invite anyone to promote their business or website that was not an apartment I can move into. I do not recommend
I am sorry that you have had a bad experience, but our listings are legitimate and we do not post and spam anything having to do with Craigslist. This may be an affiliate, but not our company! We do everything we can to prevent our affiliates from posting on sites, like craigslist, we remove their accounts and block access. I understand its frustrating, but had you reached out to us, we could have explained this to you, your review is unfair because it absolutely was not us and we are not responsible.
I only wish i had visited this site first! Unbelievable. My story is the same as all the others. I did read the site when i submitted my trial. They hide the subscription information in the Terms of Service. Which i don't know how that is legal. How can this site continue?!? Use roommates.com, they do not use any of these scandalous tactics.
If you think about it. There is no purpose to the "trial" considering its just a tactic to reel you in and charge you erroneously.
Answer: We do not post on Craigslist and do not spam or send any messages like this.

Answer: These are untrue statements. We have asked our many satisfied customers to post their positive experiences about Roomster to counteract the negative, and mostly untrue statements posted about us. If you notice that Sitejabber has negative reviews of almost every company doing business in the united states. If it was all true, there would be no business left and everyone would be out of work. People never write good reviews, people love to be negative. Its sad.
Answer: Hi Aminah, Roomster did not post that ad on Craigslist, we did not create that link and there fore we can not offer support for it. This looks to be one of our affiliates, who should not be doing this. We will be removing this person from our affiliate program. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Answer: That makes little to no sense. Undeleted? What does that even mean? N you want to create an account after you deleted it? Go ahead.

Roomster has a rating of 2.2 stars from 4,115 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Roomster most frequently mention customer service, credit card and read messages. Roomster ranks 2nd among Roommate sites.
This review by "Karrie M" is Rude, offensive and is untrue. This is a reactive person who is making statements that are libelous. Every single account on Roomster is created using a 3rd party social login, We have a record for every single account and profile with IP addresses and login history. Karrie, did you ever contacted customer service? To say we ripped you off and are a scam is so wrong. Maybe the problem is with the location you were searching or the rent you were willing to pay? Why is the problem always someone else's fault? Most problems can be solved with discussion not angry bitterness and stupid untrue comments.
