The bench arm shown was gray and the pictures hinted toward a gray -- I received it, and it was brown -- called to send back -- they said I had to pay shipping and a 15% restocking fee - They are still in the Stone Age. I will stick to companies that treat their customer right. Will Never buy from them again!
I bought some ceiling fans and they were the lowest quality fans (they were pretty on line) Ive ever seen and they were expensive. I installed one and it was so loud we just said no, return them. I asked for a return authorization and the fans had to be unopened and in original packaging. So im stuck with junky fans, ill sell in a garage sale soon for 10$ each (hopefully). These were imported from Canada (they messed up bacon) and so that just shows their not USA quality. I should have read Northerns return policy and found out that they are not return friendly. So stay away from them and go to Harbor freight for cheap.
I ordered a battery charger and it arrived crushed and we called customer service and they sent out another one it arrived crushed and what ups called retail packaging. We called in the third time on Wednesday and they were going to two day ship a replacement to us and it didn't arrive on Friday. After 3 weeks of dealing with this I've just about had it with this company. 3 weeks ago my credit card submitted payment to them and I have nothing to show for it.
I love shopping at the local store, but the website is terrible. Delivery to the store on my lastest order took nearly a month to arrive. Customer service couldn't tell me where it was or when it would arrive. Rep didn't apologize for the delay until I expressed my displeasure several times. And couldn't do anything to help. I won't be ordering from the website anymore.
I enjoy buying my tools from Northern Tools. Customer service excellent and online buying has never been more easier.

I bought a 1/2 titan ratchet there and was a lifetime warranty and they would exchange it with no questions asked, well they now don't sell it and was told I have to go to titan company itself. That's not good business. They now sell clutch and could have replaced it with something equal the same. Well they lost me as a customer. I drove out of the way there to get stuff.
I bought a $550 pump, installed it right out of the box, added gas (because you need gas to run it) and it did not work. So happy that I had purchased an extended warranty I returned it to the store for another one as it was one week old. Although I had drained it They were testy with me abut having gas in it but I had to see if it worked. Not only would they not exchange it but they charged me! 0% to restock a machine that did not work. Unbelievable! K I have bought warranties on weed eaters as well and they always found an excuse to claim 'user error' so they did not have to fix it but instead directed me as to what I should purchase to fix it myself. I will NEVER buy anything from this company again. Great sale prices but when you need help with a piece of their equipment (with warranty in hand) they give you every excuse of why they will not fix it.
Ordered an item back on May 30th to be shipped to the store. Website says 5-12 business days. Item is still not here (6/22). Store can't tell me anything and customer service only knows it went on a truck 6/4. Customer service was very friendly when I called and told me they would credit my account for the inconvenience. Do not waste time emailing, it was very unhelpful. Called back today as credit card was charged 6/18 for full amount. Now being told item was loaded 6/17. It ships from distribution center first then to warehouse before sending to store. I was told the 5-12 days is from when it leaves warehouse and doesn't include the weeks it takes to make it there. It will be over a month for it to arrive.
I ordered Ironton bucket forklift arms, I had to grind a little so they would slide onto my bucket which was ok but when I tightened the clamp the weld broke on the nut for the all thread. They said I can not return it. I didn't even get to use them. No more Northern Tool for me.
No respect for returning customers, horrible customer service as well. Also was charged 9.00 for a shipping order than contained 1 fuse for a pellet stove, this fuse is basically weightless, smaller than a penny, and lighter too.
I purchased a hitch carrier with credit card, online and twice I had to call them because they emailed me saying the address was wrong. Very odd because I usually order from Amazon (almost weekly) and have never had this problem. Both service members were awful and couldn't help solve the problem, so I had to stick with old faithful... Amazon. This is why so many are saying no thanks local and YES please to Amazon.
I was going to order a saw that was 200 dollars off and was told the price was good until Tues. Went to my cart, which I had saved online, and it was taken out. They claim item is discontinued. It is a new model saw, they must have realized they put the price lower than they wanted to honor. Lies! Never ever will I or anyone I know order from them again!
Bought a product and a week later still no update to shipping or anything. So when I call they tell me it hasnt shipped yet and that it takes 4-6 business days, so i should give it another week. After going back and forth about how the 4-6 days are up after the weekend I wont be home for a week. They explain how they can cancel the order but theres no guarantees on if it will stop the shipping process. Once they get your money all bets are off if you get what you actually paid for.
After 8 days and order had not been shipped I contacted Northern. They said would find out issue and get back - they didn't. Called 4 times with long wait times. When you do get someone they just don't care. Do not do business with this company.
After a few more emails to northern tool they did make things right and I am happy with the out come. Thanks northern tool and the one customer service women that I finally got that wanted to help me out, they have at lease one good person there.
I bought a NorTrac 2 spool hydraulic valve for a spare about a year and a half ago. Two days ago I needed to use it so I took it out of the box and installed it, but right away I knew there was something wrong with the valve. It only will move hydraulic fluid in one direction. It was bought as a 3-Position, 4-Way, Open Center, but it isn't. Contacted northern tool yesterday and got the runaround. The person I was talking to had no expertise or even knowledge about there products. Especially when they told me to get a hydraulic company to look at my machine, even when I was tired of telling them that the problem is with there valve. So than they said that it was my problem now because it is over a year old. But the valve is new and it is not what I had ordered, or they advertise the product wrong. Then they were very bold and not very good customer service when they asked me if I had any other questions on another item and I said you never solved this problem, when they actually hung up on me. So I guess I have a hydraulic valve for a heavy paper weight. Never will shop there again.
Ok, ordered the following, they neglected to inform me that they didn't have any in stock. Here I sit going on month two they have my money and I have no tool. Ironton Dry Cut Metal Saw Seriously, put them out of business and do not buy from them!
This place is awesome, I just purchased over 3k worth of stuff. I started looking for the item I wanted online and they came up. I tried them out on one item and called customer service to ask a few questions and they were very knowledgeable and friendly I went back to the website and bought all the rest of my items, great prices and deals, this place just got themselves a customer for life, thank you northern tool
Received a Ironton air compressor for Christmas. Finally took it out of the box and it doesn't work. Called customer service and they refused to help me. One of the worst experiences I've ever had with a company.
Bought a brand new honda gsv190 engine from them for $315 - installed the engine on the machine - pulley / 3 bolts / throttle cable - put in gas and oil - pulled cord engine started for 10 secs and sprayed oil everywhere - took the engine off and there was a hole right underneath the valve cover through the cylinder head - contacted them cause i wanted to return the engine / emailed pics of what they sold me ( a hole with an engine around it) and they tell me they need to review it - days went by - nothing. Had to contact again and again - Million dollar company cant cough up a return shipping label - its ridiculous - they want me to ship it back to them - which means im paying lets also not forget they want a restock fee for what? Your gonna put it back on the shelf - such $#*!S - what a waste of time and money
We purchased three 36'' Exhaust fans from the Northern Tool company for 579.97 each with 148.98 for shipping, 113.34 taxes totaling 2002. 29.
These fans were installed; {labor cost and time) one fan didn't work. Calling immediately for replacement and return. These fans were needed in compliance to an inspection. We explained the urgency to no avail after several calls always meet with rudeness and they are waiting for paper work or a new one was sent then hanging up on us. This has jeopardized our inspection, cost us labor fee to install and then uninstall. I just called again to be rudely hung up on. THIS IS NOT A COMPANY TO USE.
Answer: Absolutely horrible, you get the rub around with emails containing same useless info from multiple people, shop elsewhere and save yourself the stress and anxiety
