Many moderators are part of a clique of usually retired or unemployed domestic homemakers that are busy judging people they consider socially below them. They accuse people if digital panhandling. They purge people's posts about needing assistance. They are allowed and encourage to join in on public shaming. It promotes some of the nastiest attitudes of the wanna be elite.
Using this to help lift our neighborhood to a better more organized collective power for change in our city. Started a group to organize desired changes into an agenda to present to City Council Meetings. Looking into organizing a neighborhood challenge for aesthetics, like most improved property, like landscaping, flours, upgrades, etc. Also a local outreach group is on the drawing board to help those locally who may not be able to do alot for themselves, like the elderly, handicapped, etc... to lend them a community helping hand. :) Very useful tool!
Our long standing neighborhood was hijacked by Nextdoor. Efforts to resolve this result in slick, canned responses from their 'support' desk. Their privacy policy has holes in it and I would caution neighbors to stay away from this vendor. Do your homework. This company in San Francisco cannot possibly be the solution for neighborhoods across the country. Many of our neighborhood leaders joined Nextdoor initially to test the site and all of us have since de-activated. We have our own neighborhood centric network and trying to rid ourselves of this company.
I'm pretty busy so don't have time to read everything on "Nextdoor," but I do find it informative and covering a lot of various topics. The stuff about crimes, carprowls, package snatching, etc., does make me much more scared than I used to be, but I guess I'd rather have a good reason to be extra-careful than not. Can't think of how Nextdoor could be improved; it is what it is...!
I would post questions like... Who is watching the Super bowl or Who is watching the State of the Union and most of my post were censored for not being respectful? A few days ago, i decided not to deal with any social media platform that Censors me. So, I'm off, Facebook, Youtube, and Nextdoor. We can not support censorship in any way. I'm only on Twitter which allows Free Speech and Open Knowledge.
In, Canada, they are seriously criminalizing Free Speech. If you use hate speech or misinformation online... you can get life in prison? Yesterday, Walmart in Lou, Ky is Cashless. NO CASH! Now, poor people go to Walmart... they don't have credit cards or bank accounts? The great global purge is here.
Nextdoor is the heartbeat of our community. I find out what big and small problems are, hear a range of opinions, people aren't afraid to identify themselves and therefore are open to be recognized on the street. I've accessed garage sales, events, bought things and had them repaired through Nextdoor.
I have used nextdoor for years at a previous address since moving I tried to get a new start
In my new development. As founder and lead I have been trying to correct boundaries and send postcard invitations to neighbors for 2 months and everytime the website refuses to cooperate all the help I get is a canned answer with instructions to link for that same tool that will not work, no help at all...
Nextdoor has introduced me to a whole new way to stay connected and informed in my local community. Before I started using Nextdoor, I only knew one of my neighbors. Now with a click of a button, I can ask a question and get help from over 500 of my neighbors in seconds.
The best part of the website is that it is private to me and other confirmed neighbors. That privacy makes me feel comfortable sharing information with neighbors on Nextdoor. And I love getting timely updates about events, local issues, and how to stay safe.
I'm grateful to have this new way to stay informed and safe. Give Nextdoor a try in your neighborhood!
The local sites are run by leads with no oversite from the corporate level. 2 of the leads on our local site are anti growth and anti Water & Sewer Authority. They constantly violate community guidelines and bully anyone who disagrees with them by posting long rambling tirades without any facts to back up their claims. They also blatantly promote and direct traffic to a website they own. By becoming leads and helping their friends become leads they have taken over the site and there is no way to post anything without them jumping in and taking control of the conversation.
Transferred from Streetlife and lasted a day. Did not feel comfortable with not only my address being published but also a map to identify where it was. I also didn't like the fact it was such a micro community much preferred the wider local community that encompassed the surrounding districts of my town. Strangely enough I do venture out across my border! Come back Streetlife you were brilliant.
I joined Nextdoor a few years ago, and I have found it to be both informative and somewhat entertaining. I like being able to find out neighborhood news just by going online. It has helped me find out organizations to join, where I have met neighbors and other nice people. I also enjoy getting different perspectives on different issues.
As a lead for many years, I am a regular user of ND, although my posts are limited. I have had an overall positive experience with my neighbors (and Steve Wymer lives in my neighborhood and I have worked with him exploring law enforcement liaison opportunities). I have used ND at least twice to solve thefts in our neighborhood, and worked closely with staff on package, thefts last year, connecting The San Jose PD to victims of theft, for placement of dummy packages. We successfully interrupted one serial theft series.
I've topped 700 invites and regularly try to engage more people to join.
I get tired of the negativity, as we all do, that seem to creep into threads but believe the flagging/review process is effective (and frankly takes it off our/leads' backs)
They are a scam. They paint themselves as a local resource of information for consumers, but in reality they sweep all and any information from a members computer(s) and then sell it to companies so they can market their stuff to your "members". Their 'members' are inundated with scams and marketing trash. They steal all of the data possible from their customers computers and do not fully explain this to them.
It's a total fraud
I was told that I needed a normal name by one of the members who felt the need to try to bully me, I told them to please be polite. I do not have an American name. I was discriminated upon and harassed for my name. Many years after my account was verified, name and physical address I was harassed by having my account permanently suspended for not using my real name?! The name and address were verified by NextDoor. This is my real name! The harassment and violation of my civil rights as an American citizen is unacceptable. I will be following up with legal action to ensure my rights are not violated.
Go ahead and enter your full name, home address, and profile photo! What's the worse that can happen? It's not like you'll get bullied by HOA members and uptight losers with no lives that have nothing better to do than report you! Sign right up for a great way to build "community" with your neighbors! Invasion of your privacy and personal life? Ammunition used by your hoa against you? Naahhhh! That'll never happen! Come on! Just give us your home address, a photo of what you look like, and your full name! It'll be great! ;)
Posts and Notifications to Other Users is Totally Disorganized.
Apparently the designers/developers of NextDoor have not idea what they are doing.
Also Nextdoor Suspends so, so many accounts for someone just speaking their beliefs.
This is another Facebook in disguise and one cannot engage in civil discourse because one
Becomes suspended over the most ridiculous reasons.
Norman came and cleaned up my blackberries and trimmed my trees in a very prompt and timely manner. He did a great job and I even gave him a tip. His bid was very cheap to other companies I called to do the work.

I have not personally used the listings for finding local business for various needs, such as roofing, etc., but I like that your neighbors are willing and able to recommend them when asked. You know you aren't getting a "Paid review", and that means a lot.
This site is terrible - the mods allow bullying and harassing of all types. It is very toxic. I only look on there once in a blue moon to see what is going on in the neighborhood, but almost never post. There is mostly fighting, complaining, and advertising on here.
The nextdoor app needs to be monitored for content. Although, they do give you a false sense of security by listing "Leads" that apparently are responsible for monitoring the content, it seems to be only a smoke screen. They do nothing to stop cyber bullying and when I complained, I was simply ignored. The promote people calling others a "Piece of $#*!" and ignore my request for asking people to be more kind. I was called a horrible names because I politely asked for people to display kindness and stop the bullying. Go figure...
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
Nextdoor has a rating of 1.9 stars from 3,047 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Nextdoor most frequently mention social media, real name and free speech. Nextdoor ranks 503rd among Social Network sites.
