Third-parties that need to work with and cooperate with Weather Underground have verified to me that WU has poor management. They are out of touch with reality and completely disconnected from their users.
There is one major reason that explains the new layout, which was admitted by a WU staff member: increase the exposure for advertisements
1) Why does it keep reverting back to a weather station that I DO NOT WANT TO USE? If I select Weather Station ABC, STOP GIVING ME WEATHER STATION XYZ. If I want to know the amount of rain for the next 6 hours, STOP SWITCHING OVER TO A DIFFERENT STATION BASED ON MY ISP's LOCATION.
2) Switching to Amazon's servers has created issues with owners of Ambient Weather, Acurite, and other major hardware vendors. This creates random "gaps" in the collected data, which ironically removes high-quality stations from the map. TO THIS DAY Weather Underground has not tried to fix this network issue on their end.
3) Too many clicks, too many tabs, just to get BASIC information: 10-day forecast, hourly forecast, et al. Why is the hourly forecast only available as an eye-straining table format? Why do I have to keep clicking around to load yet another slow page just to view data and forecasts that used to be accessible in a single glance?
4) Mystery information! Where is it grabbing the current UV index from? The station I selected? NOPE! Because when the station is reporting a UVI of 2 on its dashboard, the "Health" section shows me a UVI of 11! Completely absurd and confusing.
5) Slow as molasses. From any computer, any device, any location, any ISP, the web site is much slower now! Sometimes data doesn't even show up unless I refresh the page several times! The gutted Wundermap, which SHOULD be faster and leaner, is now slow as a snail.
6) My settings are not saved, no matter how many times I try, no matter if I'm logged into my account. They always revert back to the default settings. The same is true of the Wundermap.
7) "Gold star" status is meaningless. A poorly setup PWS that reports data for 30 minutes will get a gold star, while a quality PWS that has been consistent and reporting for the past month will not?
8) Marking a location as a "favorite" or "home" is meaningless, as the site will revert you back to an UNWANTED location / PWS based on your ISP or geolocation, or some other "zmw" nonesense. WHEN I PICK A STATION, KEEP ME ON THAT STATION FOR EVERYTHING: rain, forecasts, health, et al.
9) They ruined the Android and iOS apps. Just read the latest reviews on the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
10) Jeff Masters? Are you reading this? How about you stop pretending like you don't know that your project, which you co-founded, is going down the toilet? Stop posting on your blog like everything is just great and dandy. How about you bring attention to this and muster the support of the readers of your blog?
