2018 was my first time using this service. I found the support of everyone I spoke to be very helpful. I do however have an issue with the software because I always did the review and it looked like it was alright to file but after a few weeks I received phone calls from my clients saying that their money was not taken out of their bank or that the refund was not coming... I think that the review should match the rejection. If my review shows no issues then I transmit then no rejection should be happening. I want to get excited about this software so I will give it another chance.
After early issues, I contacted the company to cancel my service. Despite the fact that the sales manager I dealt with was incredibly rude, I ignored my gut feeling and decided to give this program a shot, primarily on the promise that e-filing would be much easier.
Now here we are, March 15,2019 and the tax forms for filing for an S-Corp in Indiana still are not ready, and not just infrequently used forms, but page one of the Indiana IT-20S. I've been assured that the issues will be resolved before the due date of the return, but we should not be put in a position where we have to explain to clients that we will need to file their federal return today and their state return at a later date.
Additional issues include:
Items that require the preparer to override entries that are incorrectly inserted from elsewhere.
Forms that should be created based on entries are not always triggered.
Required entries on forms are not always required by the program.
I had high hopes for this program, but you'll be disappointed if you go in with even the most modest expectations. This program's shortcomings have necessitated the purchase of our previous package to complete returns. It has cost me extra money and significant time.
I made the mistake of purchasing this software, ignoring all the bad reviews. As of March 9th, the state franchise and excise tax returns are still not ready to submit. The calculations were incorrect. The K-1's were incorrect for the 1065. There are errors on the 1065 they can't seem to resolve. I had to purchase my old software to do my clients returns.
When I asked for a refund they informed me they had a 30 day return policy that ended for me in October. (before the tax season started)
This is my second year with MyTaxPrepOffice. It was a trying experience the first year, but after doing a different review, I came to the conclusion that this really had no more issues than the other programs that I used and was adding improvements at an impressive rate.
As many pointed out, the Client Portal was non existent (though they say they have it available now). I've had same frustrating issue with other tax companies - I nipped it by purchasing an outside portal, thus eliminating that problem and helping my non tax clients.
I LOVE their signature feature they had last year, and pointed out that I wished they had it available for remote clients (90% of my clients fit this category). Wish GRANTED! That is a feature they added this year. It took a bit of a learning curve, but I figured it out today (I actually didn't even know it existed until today).
Some are complaining that its Interview Mode doesn't flow properly and that some forms don't automatically flow to the correct area. For the most part, I haven't had this issue. If it doesn't flow from a form, it's likely I missed something. And I have never used the Interview Mode in ANY program. I don't trust any of them enough. I go directly to the forms and I ALWAYS check for errors. If you completely depend on a program to do all the work for you, you shouldn't be completing taxes for a living.
As a final note, this is one of the least expensive programs out there and locked in for life. Every new program requires a little patience while you learn the new features and how it works for you. Their customer service is as expected - busy, but helpful, with a feature in the program to send the return to them directly with issues. Problems have been no worse than the others I've worked with over the last 15+ years and I can't wait to see what new features they deliver next.
I purchased this software this year trying to save money throwing $480 away. I didn't realize that when I purchased this software in Oct 2018 and when I began to start using in Jan 2019 I had made a mistake. There is a 14 day refund policy. I had to go back and purchase my original software in order to process my clients returns in a timely manner. Their software does not flow and is not user friendly. My original software has an interview process and it makes sure you have all necessary forms and don't have to second guess yourself if you missed something. Also, at the end there is a checker for any mistakes made during your process. This taxprepoffice is for the birds.
I tried using this software after using Turbotax and Drake software for many years. Worksheets do not work, calculations are wrong and their response is to tell you to send them to their experts. The experts take 2 days to tell you to try the same steps you have already done. Treat all customers as if they are doing tax returns for the first time and we do not know how a tax return should be done properly. Their software simply does not work and they cannot or do not want to fix it. When I requested a refund they told me that since I placed my order in October they were going back to that date to apply their 14 day refund policy and would not refund the money even though I had been using the software less than 14 days. They are completely unresponsive to their customer needs
I have made call after call, trying to upload prior year return files originally created with Taxslayer Pro. The say they can, they can't. I have placed numerous calls, tried chatting, and the one constant is that they all send me a video on how to upload the files. A rep actually remotely accessed my computer to upload the files, and they still didn't load. Even with them knowing that the services offered, cannot be supported, they insist that i must request a refund instead of just issuing it. They pump up their numbers, they don't and can't support the volumes they advertise!
I switched from ATX. I get a lot of page freezing, causing me to be very inefficient and frustrated. Things that should take 10 minutes take half hour. Tech support is not available 24/7 as advertised. No phone support on Saturday evenings and I waited 2 hours, with no response, before giving up on "24/7 live chat support". EXTRELEY FRUSTRATED by the freezing pages every few minutes. I can't work like this!
I too switched running concurrently last year. I was told that many changes would make the software much more user friendly for 2018 tax filings. Not found this to be true. I am considering returning to my previous software. Returns that should have taken a short time went into double time. Not efficient. I agree that items do not flow through. When using the interview mode, you still have to access the forms mode just to finish a basic return. I love the concept and it worked great on the demo but not certain it will be worth the savings. I am truly on the fence about this product. This has been so frustrating in many ways. Having to deal with online chat just drags out the process too.
I am wondering if these individuals that recommend this software are employees for Mytaxprepoffice?
I can list a number of reasons why you should avoid using this software.
1. The sales representatives lie and tell you it's a 30 day return policy, after buying the software and requesting a refund that is when you will find out it's only a 14 day return policy.
2. The software has a number of issues, it will either freeze up, miscalculated the return, or give you error messages. The support team can never fix it on the spot, and will tell you someone from their development team will contact you the next day. Hopefully your not like me and have this happen to you while you have a client. I loss 5 clients so far this year due to this situation
3. The Pre Acknowledgement Loans does not work properly and the software continues to try to blame the bank when it's the software. As a result I have loss 10 clients, because I am unable to perform the loans.
4. They have lied to us telling us the client portal will be up and ready, and it is not. They have been telling us this for 3 weeks.
These are just 4 of the issues very early in the season. I am truely upset at myself for purchasing this software.
I would not recommend anyone to use this software it will cause you to loose clients, loose profit, and give you a bad reputation being that your the face of your office.

I'll make this brief. I was sold on this software as I was looking for something that would organized my clients stage in the game better than my previous software, Drake. With that said it does a wonderful job. The price is very inexpensive and is locked in for life, which is also wonderful. They have an easy to use signature app that I allow my clients to use on my ipad. Easy peasy.
Now the negative. There are constant errors with the software. Nothing is inherently intuitive and things don't flow to other spots on the forms 100% of the time so I'm forced to scrutinize every bit of the return... making them take much much longer than normal. The sold me saying that they have a client portal clients can upload their docs to... then I found out it wasn't available until the 2018 tax year. Now it's still not available (a week into tax season) with no ETA in site. I had issues with trying to efile 2 returns. Support said they fixed the issue and sent it off for me. A few weeks later I looked back on them and come to find out 1 of the 2 was not ever sent. The migration feature is a pain. I had to do it several times for it to move things over, and I'm still not 100% that everything transferred. I'm just tired and ready to move on. I would not recomened unless you have a small practice. I only used this for a few extension clients (less than 20) and had these issues. I'm switching for tax season and I'm sure no refund even though they're not delivering on items they said were included.

4. Employees are instructed to WRITE DOWN your credit card # when a sale is made. This paper is turned in to sales manager. I never saw a piece of paper shredded

6. You will not get a refund. Employees and management laughed when requests for refunds would come in

This software has substantially improved over the past several years. You still need to know the tax law to be able to complete a return accurately, but once all the correct boxes are checked and the forms are completed tax year 2020 has been the most accurate yet-( I have been using the software since 2016)
While it is still not always easy to see the source of a number that has been entered on a tax return, the interface has improved as well. The other area of improvement that MTPO can improve on is automatically adding forms for certain tax situations. But overall if you know what you are doing, this is a good solution. For those who have tried it in the past, it is definitely worth another look.

If you are thinking of buying this software then "Buyers be Aware". Cheap price and cheap results. You end up losing clients while you gain or safe your pockets. I would prefer to spend more to gain more clients. I think people who gave 5 stars must got paid by company. This software not even worth one star. One star is too much to compliment this junk.
I really like to meet the brains behind this software. They must be on drugs while developing this product. Did i say this product SUCKS. YES THIS PRODUCT IS BEYOND SUCKS. Even the word sucks have some dignity.

I say awesome because of how everything is put together on a desktop however, glitches on the flow of information from 1040 to 540 makes me leery to do a complex return. I will take the training and do a few returns and give a final verdict. I love the software and it's love affair cut short if the training will not come up to a satisfactory level. The support is great and all of the support associates I had were very helpful and really go a mile to answer my questions.

The software miss calculate on a very simple State return. And when you try to correct it manually by overriding their error, you end up with error and reject messages by the software. There are lots of features that are nice and the fact I can work on my clients return from anywhere is a plus. I am at the point where I use other two or three online software to check my work before e-filing anything. A software should be dependable and suppose to help speed up the productivity.
Why not post a list of common rejects/errors with their solutions, and we do not have to wait three, four days for support to respond. I haven't tired other states yet, but mytaxprepoffice has lots of problem with CA State.
I hope they take these concerns serious and come up with fixes, otherwise I have to look for another software next year. We will see how it goes.
