I received 2 perennial potted plants close to death. I could probably save them but they are poor and need to me medically resuscitated. I also got some lily and dahlia bulbs in bags. The lily's were average but the dahlias where horrible. Dahlias were lowest quality item of plant type I've ever seen. I sent an email explaining my concern over plant quality and told to send pictures. I sent pictures and in less than a cordial response was told that Holland grower said they are fine. They are not fine at all. I'm writing the review mostly because my concerns were dismissed and the owner makes it clear they intend to do nothing to resolve this or any issue and show a lack of customer service decency. I know plants. These are not plant people, just scam artists selling other peoples stuff at less than optimal quality.

Just received my beautiful Easter cactus. I am extremely happy at the size and potted with lots of buds ready to open. 1st time ordering from here but definitely will not be last. Packed with care, no breakage. WONDERFUL. I am elderly and have no idea how to add a picture.

I've ordered several times from here and each time was really not a good experience. I don't know why I continued to order, but I won't again. The customer service is terrible. My orders showed up with items missing or damaged.

I messaged and sent photos of my plants upon arrival and got excuses or brushed off. My most recent order I had emailed five times or more with plants that arrived in terrible. I finally got a message back stating "live plant sales online are final". Well, if you send me a dead plant and I email you immediately, good customer service would be to refund the plants.

They have a decent selection but dealing with the service isn't worth it. I'd shop elsewhere if I were you.

I took a chance despite the horrible reviews and ordered several plants. I was so upset upon opening my package as every single plant was damaged. The plants were not packaged properly to say the least resulting in broken stems, spilled soil everywhere, ripped leaves etc. There were also plants that had several brown tips and chemical burns from over fertilizing. When I emailed customer service with pictures, they were unapologetic and did not provide a resolution.

I spent over $200 on plants with these bozos. What utter crap they sent. Not one plant is alive today, just a week since their arrival. Most were dead on arrival, the rest were half dead. And when I tried to get a refund, I got the runaround. Never EVER would I spend another nickel at this lousy place.

Waste of money
May 10, 2021

Paid for 2 plants and 2 seperate gift wrap charges ($5.99) a piece. Only one plant was shipped and the "gift wrapping" was comprised of bubble wrap and someone printing out my card onto office paper and taping it on the flaps of the box. Do not use this company. Save your money and do it yourself.

I purchased 5 Preying Mantis cases from this company early in march. I immediatly placed them in the windowed hatching bag as the instruction described and kept them on a window sill. I placed them outside, still in the bag for a couple nice days that reached the 60's. Still no sign of life. The egg cases are kind-of rough looking with holes like they were already hatched. I contacted the company to no avail. I requested a replacement or refund but have not heard back. May 1st is the "8 week" mark that they say it could take to emerge but I don't think it's going to happen. I believe they sent me old egg cases that may have already hatched. I don't recommend this company.

Over all happy

I ordered from Hirts.com three days ago, it should be noted I live in Ohio so that's why I got my plant so quickly, but it arrived in pretty good shape, I ordered a Whitney snake plant and other than the tips being a little bent and some dirt in the box it was perfect, they even included a heat pack in my box, which I did not pay any extra for! Over all would order from them again, the plant looks healthy and I am happy.

I have now ordered 3 times with this company each bringing its own disaster. I thought the first was a fluke the plants were packaged beautifully. Missing items but when I reached out I was reimbursed mistakes happen. 2nd time lots of stuff missing not reimbursed for all of it packaging was not as bad as it could be. Reach out again. Get a partial reimbursement for the plants I didnt even get the plants? Well I'm an idiot and ordered again not only did every single plant looked like it had been thrown in the box. It was the saddest selection I have ever seen even for this company. There is no customer service this company seems to think they are doing you a favor instead of providing a service. More than half the plants I have gotten have also had horrible spider mites and my zebra came with a horrible case of white flies. I quarantine all plants when they come in so I know these specific plants came with pests as well. BEWARE

I received plants from this company in May - 4 of the same kind. They were a bit pricey but they came and were in good shape and lived. I ordered $130 worth of more plants and seeds and had to pay $50 shipping. The box came late. Not unusual, but $50 for shipping I would assume next day. Everything was smashed into one box and heavily saturated with water. There was 1 plant that was tiny but did not have any issues. One plant was full of mold, the others were either full of dead leaves, the leaves fell off, the leaves were yellow, or the stems were broken. Contacted the company and they refunded JUST the moldy plant. Contacted them again and was told they do not refund dead or dying plants. What?! I literally took the photos within 5 minutes of unpacking them. If I saw them at a greenhouse, they would be in the garbage bin. DO NOT do business with this company unless you want to be ripped off.

I order two plants of monstera and they arrived unhealthy. When checking the roots, they sent me dead cuttings instead of an actual healthy plants. Had I known I'm ordering cuttings, I would of never place them order. Spend about $70 of dead cuttings is a total scam. I emailed them and they refuse to resolve the problem. Horrible customer service.

Buyer Beware!
Customer service is horrendous and more than unhelpful, as they just kept asking me to resend photos of damaged/diseased plants and told me they were issuing a refund, but it never came. Then, just repeated the same conversation over and over. No result.
Ordered 26 plants. Shipping cost $99 for one ~12lb box? Hmmm.
No packing slip, so it was a good thing I double-checked the online order invoice, since they "forgot" to include 4 of the plants that I paid for. Most plants were MUCH smaller than depicted in photos.
Many plants had no plant tags. The plants that were tagged came from some other wholesaler Hirts buys from.
Diseased plants: came with fungal problems and pests like fungus gnats.
Pathetic service and crappy plants! Spend your money on a company that cares

I just wanted to say thank you for being an amazing experience as this was my very first time ordering plants online. I didn't even know it was a thing. Ordered 20 plants. They came laying sideways loose in a box. Everyone that has ever shipped anything knows what they looked like when I got them. Plus one was missing which they refunded. Gave me $17 back on $70 for shipping a 10lb box standard USPS. Plants do look like they will live but will be awhile before they look like a $13.50 plant which is what I paid to get them.

I placed an order for 2 tropical ferns in Jan, they were on sale and I could not resist. They were processed the next day and shipped on a weekend and arrived before Ups stated. I was expecting Frost damage, but no, healthy large green plants. Will definitely order again.

I purchased four separate plants from them as a third party through Walmart.com. One of the plants, the most expensive one a dwarf banana plant, was never sent to me but they marked it as sent via the website. I found that very shady! However, two of the three species of plants were received half dead (tansy's and a lemon grass) while the last (blue rue) looked absolutely perfect. This was not a weather or delivery issue, especially when seeing that one plant, the blue rue, in perfect condition. It lead me to believe it was what they choose to send out me. The plants were received in a week and it is not hot outside either. So, buyer beware. I know some people had better experiences than I did (I purchased from Hirt's based on the positive reviews I found). Hopefully if you decide to buy you will have a good experience. Regardless if you have a good experience or a bad one submit your review to help the next consumer make their choice or perhaps a business to better their practices!

Very healthy plants
July 18, 2020

Over the years, Id read many not so great reviews about this company but decided to take a chance and see for myself, so I placed and order for a few plants. The package was in transit for 6 days (during the heat of summer) which was a concern and upon arrival, the box was completely crushed along with the plastic nursery pots inside! Of course that was not an issue with Hirt's Gardens but rather the U.S. Postal Service! I truly expected unsalvageable plants when I opened the box but I was quite surprised to find that they were very healthy, with only one small twig broken on the Ficus 'Ginseng'! I'm not sure why the inconsistency in reviews but after my first good experience I will likely purchase from them again in the future.

The clematis I received August 2nd in a 2.5 inch pot has grown now on October 18th to about 3 feet tall. It is generally a summer bloomer but is sporting a stunning blossom today. I could not be happier.

I just received my plants from Hirt's via USPS. They were VERY nicely packed in a cardboard box, individually wrapped in bubble wrap to prevent any damage to the plants. Standard shipping was very quick and it only took a few days to receive the plants out of state. I am very impressed with the condition of the plants (catmint and ivy) - they are all beautifully green and healthy. During a time like this, where theres a global pandemic and we cant shop in person, ordering online was perfect. There was one plant that I ordered that they couldn't fulfill, so they issued me a refund. I do wish there was a way to select a replacement plant BEFORE everything shipped. Overall, very happy!

This site has great products and great prices.
I did receive a plant that was less than healthy when it arrived at my home. I sent pictures and a note explaining them to Hirt's, and within 13 minutes of my initial contacting them, my money was refunded, without my having to return anything.
Super fair business with great selection. I love Hirt's!
