Back in January I made a reservation for Vegas as I'm going to the Las Vegas Spring Market. I don't like to make reservations at hotels through third-party sites anymore. When you're traveling and you need to make changes or you're at the hotel and want to make changes, you can't do it directly through the hotel. You have to contact the third party, which, in some instances (depending on who your third party is), that can be quite daunting. It's just so much easier dealing directly with the hotel. In any event, this third part (GETAROOM.COM) made the site I was booking through look like it was actually the hotel, which is really quite underhanded. So today we decided to change our room from a king to two queens, since my husband decided not to go and my daughter (my business partner), decided she would go. So me, thinking I had a reservation directly with the hotel, called to change the room. Lo and behold, the hotel told me my reservation was through a third party. I'm certain my blood pressure when up a few points. They were gracious, and even though there were double queens available, they could not help me and directed me to find who I had booked through to make the change. So I found my original email, which did look like a reservation directly from the hotel, and called that number. At least they answered, but they would not make the change. This is why you should always find the best price online and go to the hotel directly. Show them the price and typically they will match it. I wish these sites could not be so fraudulent in making you think you're dealing directly with the hotel. At least the good, legit one's are upfront about who they are.

Website says they follow hotels cancellation policy but then they tell you its non refundable. Room was supposed to be $75 a night for two nights. $150, right? They charged me over $350 dollars! $115 dollars a night for "taxes and fees". These people are crooks!

In February, I booked a room online with Getaroom.com (the website did not indicate whose site I was on at time of booking). I was given a rate of $87.17. I was never sent a receipt but did receive a confirmation number.
When I checked out of the Hotel (Holiday inn Express) I was asked if I would like a receipt and I said yes.
My receipt indicated I was charged $84.55 (74.10 +6.74 + 3.71/room plus taxes).
When I received my credit card statement I was charged $125.12.
I called Getaroom to inquire why the huge difference in amounts and I was told the difference was there fee $37.00 + additional fees and taxes which they pay to the Hotel and that was the reason they charged $125.12.
The difference between what the Holiday Inn Express charged and what Getaroom charged me is $40.57; this is a 50% mark up.
I am a 62 year old Paraprofessional Educator, I have booked rooms using other creditable sites such as Expedia and Travelocity and never experienced such a ripoff!

Answer: They are not ethical. For me, they used a website that appeared to be the actual hotel website, did not identify themselves when they should have, and did not mention booking fees while they charged a 30 percent booking fee for a room that was its normal price. They were supposed to cancel charges on my credit card and did not. STAY AWAY!
Answer: They are a site attached to Trip Advisor---- if you see them on screen while trying to book a room-- hit cancel. I'm out over $150 because of their fraudulent cancellation policy.
Answer: Thought I was booking on the actual hotel sight but was deceived in as much as it was Getaroom. Talked to someone else also staying at this hotel at the same for about a third less. Called them right back and had already charged my card and it would be up to 3 weeks to refund. That's about what it took but did get refund. Then checked reviews and no one had anything good to say about getaroom. Go straight to hotel sight of one you know and trust or stick with something like Travelocity.
Answer: I'm definitely in. There's something very deceptive, if not illegal, when you start off on a hotel's website and when you click Make a Reservation, it somehow transfers you to the GetARoom site without your knowledge. I had no idea this was done until I received their email confirmation. I'm thinking of contacting my state's Consumer Protection Div. Of the AG's Office to file a complaint when I get back from vacation.

Answer: Wow. This is one bad company. Made a reservation and then needed to cancel. They gave cancel date all along. I called to cancel on that date and was told that date was only for 1 minute of date they told me. I was supposed to forfeit one night's cost. Luckily I made reservation on AMEX and they'll tell this fraud company to get lost. Moral of the story: make reservations through hotel.
