Like others here have experienced, the Expedia customer service is terrible. I had so many issues with my trip, it made my overseas trip very stressful. Avoid at all costs, no matter how cheap the price.
I will never book a trip through Expedia ever again.
I purchased and entire package. Flight, Hotel & Car Rental and also purchased the "Protection Plan" which ended up being a joke!
I had to cancel due to a medical issue.
It literally took 3 days to get through over the phone. Each time I had called I waited about 2-3 hrs. Waste of time!
Of course customer service is outsourced so you get someone you can hardly understand and they read of a computer screen.
It has now been 3 weeks and I have yet to see a credit from the hotel & the car rental. I'm also stuck with 2 plane tickets... so much for that protection plan!
I am livid.
Terrible customer service. My wife accidentally booked my infant son his own seat on a flight. I called in to cancel the ticket, add baby on lap, they told me it will take 72 hours as they have to contact the airline first. No response from them after 72 hours, I spent no less then another 5-6 30+ min calls in the next month trying to get a resolution. What they managed to "achieve" was to send a 1 sentence email after all of this basically saying they can't do anything.
Do not, under any circumstances, use Expedia. We had to cancel flights at Christmas time due to Omicron and were given flight credits. When we tried to redeem them on the app - in January, for travel in summer - it only allowed for one-way bookings. When I logged into the desktop version, it has the same problem. Turning then to the chat bot for help, that is also thoroughly useless. If you want any hope of actual help, you need to ask for a live agent (not that you can speak to them - it's still on chat). So having worked out where we want to go and when, I have spent no less than three hours (literally) online only to be told the 'fare base' rules for our flight credits don't allow that. When I asked "what do they allow", all the agent can say is "pick a different date or destination" (which is not an answer to the question). In sum, no one is able to help you. This is a catastrophically horrible customer experience. Avoid this company like the plague.
Expedia.com an average site, although like many sites is too packed with stuff which makes it confusing to find what you want. Contact the site admin directly or contact customer support team through chat or call. If they are available online you will correct solutions for your problem. This site drawback no exchange facilities and low branch only. This company not consider to the customer’s needs and wants. So when you are purchasing the items be careful. They are also not providing offers and discount facilities.
Expedia - BEWARE! We made an initial booking which we made changes to, which resulted in a reduction in the price of our holiday which was agreed with Expedia verbally & then confirmed in email - 5 x times! Expedia still charged our credit card for the higher amount even through they sent us email confirmation of the revised, lower price. For weeks we have now been chasing - time & time again & getting the run around no end! They are stating that the email confirmation, all 5 of the confirmation emails, are a "Display Error" & incorrect. Buyer beware - this company seemingly charges whatever they want & then tries to make it so difficult hoping you will go away because it's all too hard! Book direct - don't use Expedia!
Do not fall for spending the extra $35 to protect your flight in case you have to change or cancel.
They will give you every excuse not to give you back your money. Literally had to hound them for 2 months just to get a partial refund (countless emails, hour upon hours of phone conversations with customer support, and even using the prehistoric fax machine).
I would highly recommend avoiding booking flights with expedia in general but if you have to you better be 99.9% sure you won't have to cancel or change flight because their protection plan is absolutely worthless.
I booked a trip from Philadelphia to Zurich. As soon as I clicked confirmed and checked my itinerary, all the dates were changed, they added an EXTRA rental car with insurance, and my hotel dates were wrong. Luckily I bought insurance which really doesn't even do much I learned while speaking to someone from overseas on the customer support line. It takes 7 days to refund, yet they want to charge me for the new updated bookings. Like I can afford to keep adding $700 dollar payments to my card. Trash.
I have been using Expedia for 12 years but now Expedia is implementing a new policy. You start making your reservation for flight, hotel or car rental and during that process they show you a total amount (how much is gonna cost you) but before you start with the payment they send a message saying this:
We hate when this happens
The price of your trip has changed from $630.81 to $1083. 40. Rates can change frequently. Book now to lock in this price.
So whoever created this new policy is totally nuts. You are gonna lose clients who has been loyal for years.
Anyways this is unacceptable and authorities should do something on this matter. Expedia is scamming people and wasting everybody's time.
If you book with Expedia, make sure your itinerary is 100% finalized because calling them to make changes is a nightmare. The wait is usually 30-60 minutes and their agents are full of $#*!. Was trying to get on a later connecting flight in the States so I could leave the airport to explore. Their agent asked if I have a US Visa but with a Canadian passport, you don't need one. I was told the regulations changed this year and the agent was basically arguing with me that I cannot pass customs without a Visa when I legit just came back from the States last weekend using only my Canadian passport. This is just one of my many terrible experiences. Last time my flight was cancelled too and Expedia didn't even put me back on another flight and I had to call several times to solve the issue. Bottom line, their services are crap but hey they're cheap.
There are a lot of these sites out there and everyone has a favorite. This is the first website I ever used and I still use it. They have made some improvements. 24 hour cancellation on flights, you don't always have to pay for hotel rooms up front. The deals seem to be the same as you get anywhere else.
I have been using Expedia pretty much exclusively since 2010. Their website is outstanding and the few times I have hit a travel glitch their customer service department took care of me with no issues. Once I was stranded in Beijing because a connecting flight to Chengdu was cancelled. A call to Expedia on my cell phone led to a local hotel booking and the first flight out the next morning within 10 minutes. As a Gold member I receive lots of hotel and car upgrades which are a great touch!
Reservation booked for mother as she was displaced due to hurricane Ian. Upon arrival she was denied entrance as the hotel had no power and did not want to be held liable for an 80 year old woman walking around in the dark. Now the hotel I booked via HotelsOne want's me to pay for the bill even thought they're the ones that turned her away. I would never use this service ever again.
Great savings no doubt! But customer service is non existent! Good luck trying to call them to confirm anything. There was one time when I was overcharged for a room and tried to call them. Waited for half an hour to speak to an agent. When finally got through I realized that agent did not understand basic English and all she could do is read from the script with a terrible accent. Asked for another agent - same story. After my 6th try (4 hours later) finally got to someone who could actually understand what I was saying and my issue was resolved. Very frustrating experience!
Another one, bait and switch on you all day. You go to get the 1 good deal you find and "Sorry, this deal is no longer available, try these 10 others at twice the price or more". Will NEVER waste my time here again!
The initial website was easy enough to use. The problem comes in making a change to itinerary, it was an terrible experience. I had to contact their customer service line. Their agents were unfamiliar with US based airlines and processes. I spoke with multiple agents and supervisors. Do not blame them but the standard excuse was "the systems down." This went on for 3 days. How can Expedia.com have a system down for 3 days? I will never use them again. Stay away unless making a simple reservation.
My recent attempts to make a booking with an airline credit kept by Expedia are met with "Sorry, we're having a problem on our end." error every time I try to finalize it. I tried it with various browsers but the result is the same. I tried calling them and the only thing I get is after entering all information they ask for is "Sorry, we can't help you at this time. Good bye.". I can no longer recommend this company.
I would never recommend these people. Booked a room and date was incorrect. Called immediately after the mistake and after being on hold for over an hour, finally get some guy on the line who was almost impossible to understand. Was told there was nothing they could do, no refund, no changing reservation to correct dates, just too bad you lost your money. Too bad there isn't a zero star option.
Very bad experience and absolutely unhelpful customer service, still trying to get a refund and complain. I booked car rental and car insurance through expedia, when I turned up to pick up the car, the car rental company said that they do not accept expedia insurances and asked to leave a deposit for *******$. Of course, I did not want to do that, but they provided no other choice. I had to leave without a car and my holiday has been ruined. Never again will book through them
Expedia was great... 15 years ago.
Now it's just another overpriced travel booking site that offers a large selection of unexciting rooms and deals. Even plane tickets are overpriced.
Definitely keep comparing: there are much better deals out there.
Answer: You were lucky to get through to anyone at all at Expedia. I've spent hours and hours and hours over three days trying to get through to anyone on their customer service phone line, their chat line and their e-mail, all to no avail. They really owe their customers much better customer service.
Answer: Demand to speak to a Supervisor though you better have time because it will take anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours. Once the Supervisor does nothing or little to nothing to resolve your concern, ask to speak to a manager. Get ready to really wait. DO NOT ACCEPT THE "WE'LL HAVE A MANAGER CALL YOU WITHIN 24 to 48 HOURS" When you figure out you don't matter, sit down and right a review!
Expedia has a rating of 2.1 stars from 1,603 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Expedia most frequently mention customer service, credit card and next day. Expedia ranks 203rd among Travel Search Engine sites.
