I booked a hotel through Expexia last week. The rate went down significantly and they refuse to honor. Spoke to THREE customer service reps. Two did not speak English. The third lied about the hotels cancel policy. Expedia says their rate guarantee is only for within 24hrs of booking. They will not let me cancel and rebook. They claim hotel has 24hr cancel policy which they do not. Its expedia that would charge one night cancel fee to change rate. Hotel says you can only cancel or change with Expedia. I will never use them again. Horrible customer service
Beware of Expedia, they go out of their way Not to process your cancellation. First they tell you to talk to the hotel directly, then the hotel tells you to talk to Expedia. No one follows through or keeps a record. Keep ALL your emails in a folder so you can fight the credit card charges later. I have hotel claiming I stayed there, so 3 months later I am still paper-hanging my credit card company with a dispute... CALL the hotels DIRECTLY. Any perceived savings are not worth the risk.
Here is my car reservation through Expedia:

Car rental in Albany
Jan 27,2016 - Jan 29,2016
Of course, when I got to Albany 10:30 at night, there was no car. I have contacted them countless number of times and spent hours on the phone. They still have not refunded me. Here is their final answer after 4 weeks:
Dear Sasan AK,
Thank you for contacting Expedia regarding your feedback about your reservation.
We apologize for the experience encountered and your feedback is very valuable to prevent similar situations in the future.
Thank you for choosing Expedia.

Using my original hotel reservation, I clicked the link to review my itinerary. I wanted to change my reservation from 1 room to 2 rooms. I followed a couple of links to where I could update from 1 to 2 rooms - this was on the same day we were arriving at the hotel. Turns out I ended up with 2 reservations - the original plus a second reservation for 2 rooms. After spending over an hour on the phone, neither the hotel nor Expedia will help me. I have worked in technology all my life, and UPDATE means to change something, not create something new. I am FURIOUS! I will never use EXPEDIA again - very poor website design.
We were unable to take our trip April 22nd of last year due to Covid. We have travel credit in the amount of $1,191.39 from 3 tickets that we were unable to use. The email we rec'd from Expedia says we have 1 year to use the credit. When I went to book my trip, using my credit, the site said I had to complete my trip by March 4, which is not 1 year from April 22. They referred me to American Airlines, who referred me back to Expedia, both saying that they didn't "own" the tickets and that there was nothing that they could do for me, in spite of the new policy of extending "use by" dates due to Covid. Will not be using their "services" again!
We booked a flight to Alaska, less than 24 hours later we realized we needed to shift dates so we tried to call Expedia who we booked through... We had 24 hours to change things so we called and ended up waiting 2 hours on hold, then called back and were offered a "we'll call you back" after 2am (now past our window) we got a call back only to be disconnected mid sentence. They called back again and again we were disconnected. Not our phones, but definitely their system as we never have issues normally. Finally we get through to someone who asked if we can go on hold for no more than 5 minutes? We said sure, 30 min later she came back only to be disconnected again and we never have gotten a call back, its always start over. Meanwhile the flights we wanted were being booked and now we can't cancel because it's been longer than 24hours. Still fighting to get this straightened out. Not even sure what we can do about it now... NEVER AGAIN will I book anything through this outfit...
So, I got my hotel through Expedia, they offered insurance. I bought it on the off chance that I we might not be able to go. We couldn't due to snowmaggeden in California, couldn't get over the pass with my elderly father, he just wasn't able to travel. Called to cancel, they referred me to the insurance and the insurance said, "We don't cover that." What?! I will never shop Expedia again, or buy the stupid insurance. All over $78, not much for you, but a lot for me. Good job.
They do not honor their vacation waiver. Do not purchase insurance to keep from being charged if you want to change your reservations. When I called they put me on hold to make a change for my hotel dates, they kept me on hold for 45 minutes. I hung up as they apparently hadn't planned on returning. They charged me $145 to change my air flight.
Expedia is sneaky when they post a property price, they leave out hidden fees and 3 rd party collections. Would alway call property first and get the price and additional fees first because Expedia does not disclose all fees
I've been am Expedia customer since 2003 and booked countless amount of trips over the years. This time around I had rewards points that I wanted to apply to the price of the package. After spending 1.5 hours and being transferred to 5 different people I was told that there is nothing they can do since the hotel/airfare package doesn't qualify for the coupon. I asked them to apply the coupon to the car rental but they couldn't do that either because the coupon was for a package. Even though I asked them to convert the coupon back to the rewards points and convert the rewards points into the coupon for car rental they still refused to help. Overall terrible customers, clueless, robotic employees. Never again!
Even if the prices look good, stay away from Expedia. If you have to make any changes, it is a nightmare. I am now on my 7th phone call trying to rebook due to COVID. I've been disconnected countless times and even if they say they will call back, it's a lie.
I have used expidia.ca a few times to book flights to Edmonton from Florida, the last flight I booked in February with in 2 hours I had 2 flight changes, I called them back and they helped me change my flight to an airline that was flying home earlier like I had booked. They where very helpful and took care of my requests with no problem, I would book with them again.
We were traveling in Sri Lanka around New Year's. We booked a hotel in a resort town from 29-31, on a night where many hotels were booked out.
When we arrived at the hotel, the hotel did not recognize Expedia as a booking provider and had no reservation for us. Further, they were booked out on the nights we wanted to stay!
When I called Expedia for the refund, they asked for 2-3 days to verify the information with the hotel. And then confirmed that I had used the reservation.
There I was--stranded without a hotel. And being refused a refund for a room I couldn't stay in. When I called customer service back, they continued to refuse a refund.
Do yourself a favor. Using Booking.com.
Comparable are all these Flight, Hotel and Car Rental booking services and here I judge it only by the GUI of the app/site. I will say four star rating because the layouts could be lifted up more in a lit way!
I requested a cancellation since the airline told me that I should get a full refund since the county is in lockdown. Expedia gave me an airline credit. I needed my money. I don't have to travel since my travel date is already passed. Why would you give me an airline credit. Additionally, I appreciate the customer service at Agoda. Expedia customer service is ridiculous. I will never ever use Expedia. I would recommend people to stop using this site too. Its a scam.
I booked hotel and flight with Expedia. I called the hotel after couple weeks to get a shuttle from the airport to the hotel. The hotel informed me that no reservation under my name or the confirmation number I got from Expedia. I contacted Expedia like 6 times by email and phone calls which last for two hours and they couldn't do anything. They refunded me my money less the cancellation fee for the flights and they told me the money will take 8 weeks to be deposited in my bank account. Which is not fair. They ruined my vacation and they hold my money. Now I need to wait 8 weeks to book a vacation.
I had to cancel a ticket due to sickness and got a $600 credit. I called today to use my credit and was on the phone for 2.5 hours (!), on hold most of the time, to get a new ticket. However, in order to use my credit I had to pay an additional $200. I was fine to forfeit $200 of my credit for another ticket, but to have to pay another $200 to get a $300 ticket is CRAZY. That would be $800 out of my pocket for a new ticket.
What a scam! In these times of COVID where travel plans are disrupted this is criminal in my view. I will never, ever, use Expedia again.
If they are giving away a ticket for free I don't want it. I purchased a ticket through them, for $826 I lost my mother in law shortly after and called them just to bring my flight forward, they say I have to pay them $500 and was forced to canceled my flight and they refused to even refund half of the money, I had to buy another ticket for $650 and then they are telling me that my ticket cost $1300
I accidentally booked the wrong date for my flight and immediately called them. They said I had to call the airline directly and the airline told me after an hour wait that Expedia had to fix it. So back to Expedia for another 2 hours, they called the airline and claimed the reservation was cancelled. Only it wasn't. They charged it to my credit card and when I called them about it, they said they could not help me and that I was out the $400 for the ticket. The supervisor flat out lied to me and tried to say I had never tried to cancel even though the other agent I had spoken with told me she saw from the records that they had cancelled the reservation. Don't believe their lies that they claim you can cancel. They have horrible customer service with questionable business practices and I will never use them again.
I received several notifications of changes on my flight prior to my departure time. However, the flight time information in their latest notification was incorrect, it provided me the incorrect flight departure time which caused me to miss my flight back home. At the airport, I got on the phone with Expedia and they kept me on hold for over four hours on the phone. I explained to them how I lost my flight and it was their mistake. I requested to book me on a flight that same day. You would think since it was their mistake that would be solved in a timely manner. That wasn't the case. They offered me to use my flight ticket in the future and the tried to sell me a ticket to flight back home on that same day for double the price I was finding online. Finally after over four hours on hold, I ended up buying an airplane ticket directly from Southwest Airlines.
Answer: You were lucky to get through to anyone at all at Expedia. I've spent hours and hours and hours over three days trying to get through to anyone on their customer service phone line, their chat line and their e-mail, all to no avail. They really owe their customers much better customer service.
Answer: Demand to speak to a Supervisor though you better have time because it will take anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours. Once the Supervisor does nothing or little to nothing to resolve your concern, ask to speak to a manager. Get ready to really wait. DO NOT ACCEPT THE "WE'LL HAVE A MANAGER CALL YOU WITHIN 24 to 48 HOURS" When you figure out you don't matter, sit down and right a review!
Expedia has a rating of 2.8 stars from 1,604 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Expedia most frequently mention customer service, credit card and next day. Expedia ranks 15th among Travel Search Engine sites.
