DirecTV Reviews Summary

The overall reputation of the company is significantly tarnished by persistent customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding its customer service and billing practices. Many customers report frustrating experiences with long wait times, ineffective support, and unresolved technical issues. Complaints frequently highlight unexpected charges, inadequate responses to service cancellations, and difficulties in retrieving returned equipment. While some customers appreciate specific features, such as the remote control functionality, the overwhelming sentiment reflects a lack of trust and reliability. Overall, the company faces substantial challenges in enhancing customer satisfaction and addressing operational inefficiencies.

You get what you pay for with satellite service. Dish is a joke compared with DirecTV. DTV has the same negatives of all the cable/sat providers: 2 year contract, extra charge for HD, extra charge for using a DVR (beyond the cost of the DVR itself), prices go up a bit almost every year.

However, when compared to the alternatives, DTV provides a better customer experience. Almost every channel is HD -- which puts them ahead of Dish and Cable networks right there. Also, their least expensive channel package is actually fairly comprehensive (local channels, almost all of the basic cable channels) and offers far more channels (and more channels you may actually watch) than the lowest-priced packages from Dish or any Cable company. So you have to look at DirecTV's higher prices with that in mind. You get a lot more. And their promotional deals for new customers are not nearly as deceptive as Dish's.

Also, once you have been a customer for awhile they will give you freebies to let you feel as if they appreciate your loyalty. I like that they at least pretend to care about you, since this is a dying tradition in many businesses today (Amazon being one major exception).

Best of pay
April 23, 2015

I've had directv for four years. I've not been disappointed. Now, they DID just raise their rates, so I'm a little disappointed there. I live in Tucson and love my Pac-12 ncaa bball. Dish has several Pac-12 channels. Directv has one Arizona sports channel ad or rarely EVER got anything playing on it.

But those things being said, I love my Directv. I pay abt $120/mo, but I get all channels and a couple premium channels.

My mom had signed up for directv through one of their offers and after really crappy service where we live she decided to switch back to brighthouse and was told she had to pay a cancellation fee of $397 which she had paid $50 of it and sent in another $50 recently. Sometime between the time she had sent the second 50 dollar check in and today 4/9/2015 they took out the remaining $349 causing her to be overdrawn on her account. They will not refund her the $349 they took out so now she is broke because of their greed! AVOID directv at all costs!

Horrible interface. Feels like something out of the 80's. There are always differences as to what can be found or accessed on the TV vs on the website.

There isn't that much content to watch online and the website is horribly laid out.

They bait you in with "deals and offers" and then hit you with a bill three times as much! Be better off using an antenna or internet for tv service its a lot less expensive!

I like their service but I think these guys need a makeover to really please their customers. Would like to update my review once they have updated their service.

I guess it depends on the person answering the phone. But I am tired of hearing all the "deals" for new customers while existing customers like myself pay out the hoo boo for services. If/when I call they have now jumped on the bandwagon of selling useless add on junk. Customer service... Blah. However when you live in the country, your choices are limited and this is the better of two bad choices.

I have been with DirecTV for several years and they are always working toward improving the ease of using their website, making live person assistance available to customers. I love their service. Bad weather rarely interferes with the signal, service is almost never interrupted and ordering movies from them is easy. I ESP am glad they have a few safety features in place to keep us from accidentally ordering extra movies, etc.

I can't in good conscience recommend Directv to anyone. I used to pass out the little referral cards and praise them but no more. I used to watch those quirky little commercials about how cable companies are so noisy, a ripoff, etc. and nod my head in agreement. I used to think Directv was so clever, so awesome, so cutting edge, but not anymore. I have joined the ranks of financially battered consumers that Directv has wronged. During the 2 years I had their service, my bill fluctuated for no reason. I had an NFL ticket package automatically added on (sure to be the subject of another class action lawsuit), equipment fees I wasn't made aware of and I tolerated much double-talk. At the time, I just figured it had to be a mistake. Believe me I know now it wasn't a mistake. They constantly call your number starting at 8 a.m. to whenever at least 3 times a day when your bill is late or if they want to sell you something. If you figure out after doing the Pepsi Challenge that Directv is more expensive than cable: woe is you. To add insult to injury, Directv will wipe out your bank account if you don't get their equipment to them immediately. Because those crappy boxes are worth their weight in gold on paper to these corporate crooks, it doesn't matter if you fulfill your contract or not. They do this without authorization, will use the credit card(s) you paid your bill with (even your mother's, brother's, cousin's or any number they can get a hold of), and will run at least $400 in charges REPEATEDLY. When I say repeatedly, I mean repeatedly. Get ready for bank fees. They have no qualms about doing this. They don't care if it's social security, they'll still wipe you out. Seniors beware. Never mind that regardless of any bogus contract terms they allege you opt into, it's illegal and shouldn't be tolerated. A judge has ruled that yes, even Directv (who are ever so clever with their contract) can be sued in a class action. Use this info any way you like, but before you get to that point, please weigh the cost of watching your favorite show VS. letting this vulture into your living room and into your bank account (or into those of your loved ones).

"Directv movers deal" DON'T DO IT! I can tell you my ordeal, but I think their website is the biggest clue. If they can't tell you upfront for all the world to see how good of a "deal" it is, you know it really isn't.

With our move of 3miles, we decided to switch from Dish to DirecTV because of the NFL promo (3 games not network). We had much more service from Dish for what would be the same price. We thought we might save a little, but we aren't. We are charged for HD, but we have no local (major networks) HD. That was not disclosed. Their attitude is one of "tough $#*! - pay us the $420 and you can switch". Our business would never survive if we conducted ourselves in the same way. We will stay and pay for the 2 years and then switch as fast as we can. Funny how here in football fan country the services are talked about with strangers on the street and the NFL promo brought DirecTV a lot of disappointed cumtomers in our area. We have not had service interuption, thus the 2 stars vs 0 stars.

I have had Direct TV for many years. Direct TV is much more price effective than Comcast. They offer 150 channels in there basic package for less than Comcast. You can get 150 channels for $29.95 for 12 months, plus 3 premium movie channels. After the 12 month period the price for there basis package goes up to $59.95. This is still cheaper than Comcast. Comcast has a basic package that starts out costing more than Direct TV's offer from the beginning. Comcast only offers 60 channels of viewing. Since I installed for Comcast I should now. When I worked for them I never had them I still went with Direct TV. Sometimes you may loose the signal from a storm, It is not out for long. The same kind of power outages happen with Comcast. There digital cable is lousy. To everyone who has to purchase a provider make up your own mind. As for me I have already used both there is no comparison in my mind. To movie watchers everywhere I hope you get a chance to save money with a nice provider. I have heard other people say they don't care for satellite tv. I love it. www.directv.com

While Directv's service may be acceptable (they give you tv, duh), no one EVER mentions the $485 early termination fee.

This might have been a handy bit of information to have PRIOR to my deciding to sign up with them.
