I want to start by saying that I have not been paid for this review but I felt it necessary to post a positive experience, as there has been so many negative reviews, I live in Nova Scotia, Canada and ordered an item from Hanes.com in the US which, by default, was shipped by Borderfree. The order was placed on 5 Dec. And it was delivered today, 21 Dec. This is remarkable considering that there are currently postal disruptions in Canada. My credit card was billed exactly the correct Canadian funds and the item was exactly as I hoped and expected. I will confidently order from this company in the future.
I'm not sure why there is so many bad reviews and I feel so bad for those who had an awful experience but I had quite the opposite! My package did not take too long to arrive, all the tracking updates were accurate and it arrived on the right day. I was super worried that I would be charged double or my package would never arrive because of the reviews, but I hope you all get a refund of some sort :)
I have made half a dozen purchases from merchants in the US for delivery to Ontario, Canada. Packages have always arrived within 7-10 days, in great conditions, no lost or delayed packages, no damaged items, no weird charges on my account. I always received confirmation of order immediately, followed by shipping/tracking notification within couple of days.
I ordered sunglasses from Saks Off Fifth from the US to Canada. Borderfree handled the shipment. I worried when I saw all of the bad reviews and my order hadn't moved past the processing stage in a week. I politely emailed them and no response. After sitting at 'item processed' for 7 business days, the shipment was handed over to DHL. It was on hold and approved by customs in a day and was on my doorstep the next day, which is amazing considering how far it travelled in that time (from Illinois to BC). I was worried at first but am satisfied that I received my order in perfect condition within the expected delivery time (granted, I did pay $55 for the best shipping option).
All these negative reviews made me scared I wouldn't get my order, or that I'd have to deal with a bunch of nonsense. But, although the package sat in "Preparing Package" for 5 days, which didn't help my anxiety, Borderfree did move the package along to the international courier and my package arrived in 8 days. This is actually a pretty excellent shipping time from US to Canada. I'm happy.
I cannot believe Saks uses these bunch of scammers! How do you deliver my order to Illinois when the parcel address stated CANADA?! $279 went down the drain! I am disgusted! Karma will get you all one day!
I ordered goods from George at cases on the 24 April. Still not arrived. Website says they haven't been despatched. After 4 weeks with one email complaint and two phone calls I am disgusted. It seems impossible to speak to Borderfree direct, I had to go through ASDA customer service who apologised but said they could only refer it to their colleagues at Borderfree. I have now cancelled the order. I have previously used ASDA for many years without problem, but never again!.
I would never use this service from a retailer again who uses them. It took 30 full days for them to sort a refund on a return item, and that is their standard policy. Completely unnecessary wait time for return of purchases, when the purchase was over £1000.
I have ordered some items a week ago and it has still not shipped. Questions to customer service on info are being ignored. I am going to cancel my order and will never shop with them again.
Look if a retailer you want to buy from uses this company Id advise you to run like your life depended on it! Im so fed up I cant go into a long essay of what happened to me but know this, 3 months after my order was placed and having returned the item which was delivered 1 month late and damaged I am still waiting for my money back, luckily I completed the original purchase with Paypal so Im sure in the end they at least will step up to the plate and take care of this but its been a long hard road, border free will lie and do whatever they have to in order not to take responsibility for anything and they sure dont even want to contemplate giving you your money back! Stay very well clear of these people.
These people are disgusting. I stopped shopping at target because they use borderfree and now Ulta does too? Horrible company who charges $45 for duties and taxes when there isn't even duty on makeup. Even if it was coming from China $100 would equal $5 duty. But coming from the US nothing, and they're charging $45. Boycott anything that uses this horrible company. Wish I could rate it 0.
I order a lot from US to Germany and was never charged so highly for customs/tax, they overcharged me around 45 Euros with their fantasy estimate that was added on automatically at L. L. Bean check out... this should optional if you care to use Borderfree. I can't believe that a reputable company like Bean is using this system. Plus NOT updated

Warning stay away
This company is the perfect example of how not to fo e-commerce. They did a "free global shipping" recently, people wasted their time ordering products and finally they just cancelled most of the orders with no explanation.
I will never waste time entering their website.
Expensive, pretty slow, but worst of all is their returns system. So complex and expensive that you're better off listing an item on eBay and hoping to recoup some of the cost that way. They're a big company and seem to have sewn up the market for a lot of the top US brands but the service they provide for this Australian customer pretty much rules out anyone who uses them. If possible I'll to my US forwarding box instead.
Worst experience ever! Bought a pair of pants from pRana, apparently Borderfree handles international shipping for them. Had to return them as they did not even come close in size to what I ordered. The return process took many weeks before the pants were delivered to pRana. Two months later still no refund. According to the web sites, Borderfree says pRana is responsible for my refund, while pRana says Borderfree is. Repeated emails to pRana are ignored. Since I live within the EU, US laws don't protect me and EU laws don't apply. This to me isn't any different than outright theft!
Today I have Been charged fully for one of my orders for the second time. The first charge (hold according to borderfree customer service) did not drop off. When ( if) it does or in case of news i will update.
Placed two separate online orders for hair products from Ulta (using Borderfree as I'm Canadian) that I have ordered in the past. They flagged my order for potentially harmful goods containing hazardous materials. It's been sitting in the warehouse for weeks, no one in customer service will give me any answers as to what the products that have been flagged are. I'm not sure if I'll ever receive my order, never mind before Christmas. The two orders combined are over $250.00 worth of shampoo, conditioner and hair gel.

I ordered an $18 item from Target, paid taxes & shipping. Then Borderfree they tried to charge me $30 literally to obtain the package. That is ridiculous (nearly twice the price). Also Target decided to split my purchase into 2, so the other item which I cancelled when I learned how Borderfree is a scam, and they've shipped it anyhow, so I'll have the joy of refusing that package too. I love ordering online, and I order from the US as a Canadian all the time. But I will never order from a place that uses Borderfree ever again. For shame!
