The only reason why I'm not giving it a one star is because I had fun making the meals with my wife, but really, you can have the same fun by buying ingredients and making it yourself. I am upset with blue apron because they make it difficult to cancel your subscription. If you aren't careful you will be charged 60 dollars without noticing. I believe the way the have their payment method set up is unfair and I'm disappointed that a large company like this would do that.
Two different times, I skipped meals on their calendar app going ahead more than a month and suddenly saw a charge to them on my bank statement. It was too late. The meals shipped. We have allergies, so both times, more than half of the meals were non-edible for us. Also unplanned. Nice. BTW, I was wary of the calendar after the first incident, so marked my own calendar so I wouldn't get caught again. The good news is cancelling is easy. Hope it doesn't revert, too. Oh and the email reminders about shipments get caught in spam, so you can't count on those.
I am a very good cook, but I work 10-12 hours a day. And, I despise grocery shopping. My SO doesn't cook unless you count "stir fry" every night. BA has allowed me to have the freedom to cook like they do on TV. All meals are done in 30-45 minutes, and are restaurant quality. I worried the portion sizes seemed small, they aren't. Even for my SO who is a big eater. BA rocks in my book.
The recipes are easy to follow. The food is tasteful. Sometimes the fresh produce is damaged in the packaging. It does make dinner time easier not having to think what to cook and there is no waste with the food. You get exactly the right amount. I have been doing the Freestyle WW meals and it is so easy to just scan the barcode to track your meal and not have to list every ingredient.
We've been with blue apron for four years. Things have mostly been alright until the last month when literally every single week there has been an issue. The boxes have been late, missing packages, wrong recipes. We've emailed them and they aren't helpful. They only give you credits and not your money back.
The food was really great tasting. There wasn't enough for two people unless your on a diet. Customer service is great. It was easy to cancel membership. Just had one problem, the chicken had a lot of fat and stringy muscle. They were quick to rectify my complaint and took money off on my next order.
Received the free trial from a friend who uses this service and likes it. First, I was appalled by the excessive packaging materials. All items came nicely double packed with ice packs in bottom of big box. The first meal was a shrimp dish. I had an awful reaction in the evening after dinner to the preservative or whatever was in the food, and terribly thirsty all night I believe from over salted sauce mix included, as I do not add any salt while cooking. When I went to cancel my account, I found no way to cancel on the website. My package arrived on a Friday, they are closed for the weekend and give only to 9am the following morning to change or cancel. I cancelled the following week order and sent an e-mail to cancel the account. Consumeraffairs.com has many complaints about how difficult it is to cancel.
Decent food but "we want you back, 3 free meals" turns out to be three free servings. Customer service refused to do anything. Then we sent a gift card to friends but they couldn't redeem it. Other friends of ours felt the "we want you back" emails were misleading as well.
I have received 2 boxes now from Blue Apron. The first had the bag of rice broken and rice spilled all over. No big deal except I had to go buy rice to make the recipe which kind of defeats the whole purpose.
Today received the second box. This one had sesame oil spilled all over. This WAS a big deal as it was such a oily mess on everything and very pungent aroma too.
I called Blue Apron to cancel my service and asked for a nominal credit due to the problem. Unwilling to give one unless I continued the service. Poor customer service and quality control.
I ordered a meal plan from Blue Apron for my parents. They absolutely loved it! After a week, I meant to cancel my plan, but there was some technical issue that didn't allow the cancellation to process. After working with the people at Blue Apron, they helped cancel my subscription and reimbursed me for the additional weeks that I was charged for. Great food! Great service! I'll definitely be ordering from them again in the future!
Service is awful. A manipulative company with no sense of customer service. The fact that they forced me to write an email requesting additional instructions to cancel my service is ridiculous. I will do my best to find every forum on which to negatively review this companyt.
I've been receiving Blue Apron for a few weeks now and I love it! Normally I would cancel my subscription around this time because I'm a bit of a penny pincher, but Blue Apron is SUCH a great deal! It's convenient, fresh, and incredibly tasty. I've also had to contact customer service for a minor concern and they handled the situation perfectly! I would definitely recommend Blue Apron!
The foods were awesome and by the time I made the food according to the wonderful directions, I had quite a mess to clean up. After I ate, I really didn't feel like cleaning the kitchen. I have since ordered from Freshly.com and all I have to do is Microwave. Much better for me, no cleanup and it keeps me out of the kitchen.
The food was awesome and at the time. I like the meals very tasty. So I'm a fan and recommended. Food was packed well. If you decide to try it just read the small print. It explains how Blue Apron works.
Had a free week from a friend. Didn't know that automatically set me up as a customer. Got charged for a shipment I didn't want (or know I was getting); contained food I specifically didn't want. When I discovered it, I called. Waited to speak to representative who told me too late to stop the shipment and they didn't take returns. If I didn't want it, I should give it to a neighbor. After much arguing, agreed to credit my account and cancel my membership. For a "sustainable" organization, too much packaging! Prep while not difficult, created lots of dishes.
The recipes are very flavorful, however, most weeks its some sort of burger, Cod or Shrimp dish and Chicken or pork. We have only received Salmon once, never received any steak, or higher end meats. They need to step up their variety and Nicer cuts of meats and veggies. In addition, the recipes are all very similar. They also need more variety in this area as well.
Love how my meats and veggies that got delivered and veggies came warm (unsafe temperatures warm). Thank you for taking $40 of my money. You might want to order a Hello Fresh to see how they keep there customers safe. I will stick with Hello Fresh.
I am very satisfied with the foods that they send over and the instructions are easy enough to understand, but sometimes I wish they would arrive on time. It sucks to come back from work only to sit around and wait for the produce to arrive.
Hi, I dont usually write reviews but I was particularly dissatisfied with the service and product of blue apron. First I was not impressed with the menu or the food, I have seen much better. Second when the food comes it all together and you have to sort through it before you make anything. I shouldnt really complain about their lack of organization but having tried another company, it really does make a difference. On a final note, due to my lack of satisfaction with the company cancellation was also just as frustrating. Not only is cancellation not straight forward or easy but they actually charge you to cancel.
The title says it all. Shipment was 4 days late and when it arrived, I was sorry I opened the room temperature package. It was disgusting. It's only a matter of time before someone gets food poisoning. Not worth it.
Answer: This seems to be Blue Apron's way of holding up a (false, pseudo) customer base for purpose of over-inflating their numbers for investors.
Answer: Hello. You do not know what time the box will arrive, just which day, and you pick which day you want it. I have never had anything spoiled or overheated in our box; there are "ice packets" in it. So as far as choice of meals... when you first sign up you can make choices about things you don't want. We selected no seafood and no walnuts. I wouldn't go crazy opting out of stuff; you can imagine that takes away so many options for delicious recipes. If you have a lot of special food needs, I don't think a meal service is for you. Anyway, we get our box on Tuesdays and on Monday I receive an email saying my box is on its way and what recipes are in it. That email also tells you what's coming for the next week. You can change your recipes up to a few days ahead, which might be convenient if you are worried about what you are getting. You can also go online and see many weeks out and change any of those too. I will say this though, if you are picky picky and not open minded about trying new recipes, I don't know if you should sign up. Blue Apron's recipes are very unique and have a lot of ethnic flavor profiles and spices and things like that; but they have all been great, again, if you want to have fun and try new things. There have been a couple where we thought maybe we should change that, maybe we won't like it, but we didn't and just went ahead and tried it and we have not regretted it once. You can see more on the review I posted.
Answer: They DEFINITELY hide the "cancel" button - I had to email them to find it, and they said "you can always just pause your deliveries!" but you have to hand click each week you want paused, and you can only go a few weeks out. If you do that and forget, deliveries will start up again automatically. It felt very sneaky.
Blue Apron has a rating of 2.5 stars from 138 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Blue Apron most frequently mention customer service, credit card and next delivery. Blue Apron ranks 9th among Food Delivery sites.
