3hrs on line to order some blu rays on sale. Edit cart function didn't work. Chat help said log out log back in. No change. Use a different browser. No change. Log out log back in no change. Log out, empty browser cache, log back in. Message to remove pre-order items from cart since not in stock - but that was what I was ordering all along! Last year they delivered one item in my mail order so I could pick it up in person - at a store an hour drive each way. This is the worst on-line operation with which I have ever dealt.
Purchased two audio books by gift card. One became corrupted a week after started listening. I attempted to troubleshoot at the direction of customer service without success. I was then told that I would need to enter credit card information to continue to access the book. No further assistance was provided.
I have been ordering eBooks from Barnes and Noble for over 20 years. The newest version is ridiculous. Instead of being able to order eBooks directly from the App, you now have to go directly to BarnesandNoble.com. Navigating this site is stupid, trying to apply the 'deal' at checkout NEVER works and what is the point of all of these changes? If you want my business- to stay in business - then it should be easier. You know, like its been for the last 20 years. Epic fail Barnes and Noble, epic fail. I am now looking into Amazon…. Which is cheaper anyway.
Barnes and Noble is amazing. I do have to say, I love the online store better than the actual brick and mortar stores though, because the options they have online is far better than the ones you can find in any one store. They even have books for Wiccans, Pagans, and witches, which is a hard find in most places in this day and age. The one closest to me took down the entire new age section to make more room for their Bibles. But I can still buy them online, which is great. The prices are a bit steep, but I've never had a book from there last less than 10 years. Give me a Barnes and Noble and I'll never need another bookstore. Fabulous.
Though it was a while back when I went to them, they had what I needed. Specifically, I was looking for a Portuguese course book and such. Though there wasn't a tremendous selection even for languages like, Spanish, French, German, Russian and Japanese, still, I had hope. Fortunately, they had a series called 'Living Language'. It was a Portuguese course book, along with a very useful dictionary and CD's that complement the coursebook. I have used those ever since and it is all due to the fact that they carried what others didn't, such as B Dalton, etc,. Over the years, I picked up other things, such as calendars at Christmas, and so forth.
The staff and the atmosphere is recite! Great selection, reasonable prices and overall a great experience. Highly recommended!
My local Barnes and Noble supported my good family friend by allowing them to do a book signing for the book they wrote about their special needs son. I continue to support Barnes and Noble for supporting new authors who have just written their first book.
Have been trying to order three books for my mom on the website. It keeps changing my billing information on me when I am not directing it to change anything, and then locked me out when I tried for the tenth time to process the order. I will just drive the extra 30 miles to an independent bookstore.
When I need a book I always check at Barnes and Noble first. They usually have the book I want for sale used by a private party. Last time if I bought book new I'd of payed $34.95 but bought used one that was like new for $8.00 I always receive books quickly and have always been satisfied.
My son had purchased a vinyl album from our local Barnes & Noble as a Father's Day gift and I already had this particular record. I went in to exchange the product for a different record and the lady behind the counter explained very curtly that without proof of purchase they cannot exchange it for another record. The fact that I have it in my possession is proof and to say otherwise implies that my 25yr old with a wife and 2 kids "stole" the record for Father's Day. Nice job Barnes & Noble but not only did you lose out on the opportunity to provide a positive experience you also lost a customer of over 25yrs.

I've been both in the store and online with them, and I've always been satisfied with them. Of course online you have access to more books than they could ever stock in store, especially the more "controversial" volumes that I'm not going to list here but leave to your imagination. You can even use your membership discount online if you have it and you always get your tracking number so you always know where and when your package gets checked in.
I have been waiting ten days for my ebook order of "The Bangalore Detectives Club." AlthoughI have more than enough gift card credit, B&N refuses to let me have my ebook.
Customer service has no clue, and is useless.
DO NOT expect any help from B&N in getting an ebook. Disgraceful.
I'm very disappointed with Barnes and Noble. I order a book that I wanted to pick up at the store. I picked a store near by. The site said the book was available at that location (Nashua NH). I was placing the order after hours so I didn't expect a response saying the book was available to be picked up that night. Not 10 minutes after placing the order I got an email saying sorry the book is not available at my chosen store. I could try another location or have it shipped. So I tried placing it on Salem NH since they said "in stock." 10 minutes later I got the message that they didn't have stock. Okay 1 store the inventory is not accurate. Same message have it shipped or try another location. Are you kidding me? 2 times is all you get and I go to another store. Not Barnes and Noble. Try to reach anyone to get help with a store that really has the book is not worth it because they gave the same crap that I saw online.
I love books, actual hold in your hands, preferably hardcover, books. I do not, however love the high prices of said hardcover books. Barnes and Noble gives me the option of buying used, and I have never gone wrong doing so. A few of the books I have ordered were actually new with only a tiny tear or slight wear on the dust jacket, and were only a fraction of the price they would have been had I ordered them as "new". Did I mention almost overnight service even though I didn't click it? Fast, fast, fast.
I like this store but won't shop here anymore. They will put 25 renewal on your car even if you don't want it. The charge appeared on a card I never use and the phone number they give you tried to sell you stuff without handling the problem. This happened to me before and they wouldn't discuss the issue because o could not remember my old address. Ripoff
I wanted to share a recent shopping experience. I was looking to buy three books and ship them internationally (to Taiwan). I also wanted these books as soon as possible. I started with Amazon since that's where I usually order my books (and use the free shipping option within the US). When I looked at shipping to Taiwan, I saw that the fastest international shipping option for my books would be around $75 (and the total for the 3 books was only $100). So I looked around.
On Barnes and Noble, the fastest express international shipping cost me ~$50 so I was able to save over $20. So, when you are shopping for things online, check not only the prices of the items, but also the prices for different shipping options because it can matter a lot. (For the slowest international shipping option, Amazon was cheaper.) Be sure to shop around for each situation.
I will never step foot inside the Boise Idaho Barnes and Nobles ever again. You make the shopping experience unbearable with your draconian face diaper Nazi policies! You can keep your face diaper rules and I will spend my money elsewhere.
Bad service manager don't let be people return stuff and I just buy book like 2 days and there paper is bad try to return em and manager keep say something and don't let me return it… so bad store. Just buy the book 2 days and come back return they don't wanna it etf
Wow, Am I super glad I got a kindle instead of a nook. You can't even get a full series of books in most cases on a nook. There is no audible option to go along with it. They are stuck in the 90s when killing the competition was easy for physical books. You couldn't even walk into a barnes and nobles today and buy a full series of books. Amazon has every book in every series available in a day or two at your doorstep as a mass paperback option for relatively cheap. This reminds me of that tom hanks movie "You've Got Mail" except tom hanks is now older and he's slowly selling his shares of his bookstore because for some reason he can't hire people and make sure that they have ebooks and audio books available, as well as the option to have any book shipped to you.
I [purchased 4 books today at the store and when i got homed they were online for $5 cheaper each and i did not get that price instore. Called store and said bring books back and we can redo the transaction. I live about 50 miles from the store and it will cost me more in gas to return this way. Called website online and talked to customer service and all i got was sorry, take them back and reorder online. You think i could take pic recieot and they could send me a gift card in mail for the difference.: I will shop Amazon from now and and not buy at B&N. Very unhappy customer...
Extremely dissapointed, as you failed to let me know that I would be paying more money for conversion fees. Even when I was on the chat line, you still failed to inform me there is a fee higher that what we agreed to. I am sorry, this is absolutely misleading and I will never purchas from you again.
Dezi George.
