I ordered a dehumidifier from Amazon in April 2025. I signed up for monthly payment plans with Affirm. No problems. Dehumidifier was defective, so had to return it. A month later in May 2025, I find a dehumidifier on Walmart.com. Go to order it, choose Affirm, and was denied, citing a negative payment history. WHAT PAYMENT HISTORY? I made one payment and had to return the product. I called Affirm, and they had no explanation, did there was nothing they could do, and claimed the reason for my declination was my credit history. But only a month prior there was nothing wrong with my credit history!
I have spent thousands with Affirm, and one loan was canceled 7 minutes after placing it with Expedia. I was given a partial refund, so I disputed this with Affirm. I ended up getting my full refund after 2 months. During this 2 month investigation, the loan was frozen. They reported to Experian that I was late paying even though this was refunded. I have been fighting this for 5 months for something that shouldn't have been an issue in the first place. Customer Service has been an issue. Copy and pasting with different company names in the responses and refusal to help.
Absolutely Disgraceful – Affirm Is a Predatory, Disorganized Scam Masquerading as a Legitimate Company Using Affirm was one of the biggest financial mistakes I've ever made. I trusted this company to provide a simple, transparent credit option for an online purchase — instead, I ended up tangled in a nightmare of poor service, misleading terms, and abusive billing practices. First of all, the product I purchased through Affirm was defective and unusable. I contacted the seller, who agreed that the item was terrible and unfit for use — but since Affirm had already paid them, they washed their hands of the issue. So, naturally, I contacted Affirm, thinking I'd get support or at least some basic mediation. What I got was a robotic reply, followed by weeks of silence, then aggressive billing reminders as if none of the concerns I raised ever existed. They were completely uninterested in helping resolve the issue. They don't care if the product was garbage or if you got scammed — they just want their money. To make matters worse, dealing with their "customer service" is an exercise in futility. You'll be routed through clunky, impersonal email threads or forced to interact with undertrained representatives who clearly don't speak fluent English and seem to follow scripts with no ability to actually address your issue. Communication is slow, frustrating, and utterly pointless. It feels like Affirm goes out of its way to be as unhelpful and inaccessible as possible. What's even more offensive is the way they present themselves — as some modern, consumer-friendly alternative to credit cards. Don't be fooled. Their business model is every bit as predatory, if not more so. They use sleek branding and buzzwords to trap people into overpriced installment plans, offering "flexibility" while drowning you in fine print, hidden fees, and rigid payment structures that punish you at every turn. God help you if you miss a payment — they'll hit you with penalties while pretending to offer "support." And despite the fact that this company operates across the U.S., there is nothing about them that feels rooted in American standards of service or accountability. Everything is outsourced, disjointed, and impersonal. It feels like you're dealing with a faceless entity that exists solely to extract money from you with zero regard for fairness, empathy, or resolution. Bottom line: Affirm is a disgrace. They offer no buyer protection, no recourse, and no customer service worth mentioning. Once they get their claws into you, you're stuck. If the product you buy turns out to be junk, that's your problem. If the merchant disappears, that's your problem. Affirm just wants the money. Avoid this company like the plague. Use a real credit card with real protections. Affirm is a trap, a scam in slick packaging. You've been warned.
I had no problems for approximately a year and a half, and then, sometime in December 2024, I was suddenly unable to log in to check the status of my loans or to use Affirm as an alternate payment method on Amazon. I have repeatedly contacted their help centre and keep receiving responses telling me how to update my phone number, which is not what I'm trying to do. I'm using the same phone number I've been using for the past two years, and have used without issue both on the Affirm app and on the site, as well as on Amazon. There's no option to log in with an email, and when I attempt to log in with my phone number, I'm directed to update my phone number or log in. This goes on and on for as long as I feel like playing. Customer service is of no help, and left me sitting on hold for 20 minutes until my phone died. This, after I confirmed all of my information, including a previous address that's two years old and has literally nothing to do with this current issue.
I've sent tickets in and they've been closed -- marked as "resolved", when the situation has clearly not been resolved. One response was that their technicians or whoever had no idea what was going on and no timeline for when it would be resolved. But they marked my ticket "resolved". So far, there are no unauthorized payments coming out of my bank account, but I now cannot access my loan information to find out how much I have left to pay, when I'm expected to pay it, or even to pay early.
I initially strongly recommended this payment option, especially since Amazon stopped offering the option to pay over time, but now I will absolutely warn people against it.
I want to close my account, but first I need to find out where my loans are at and how I can pay them off. Can't do that if I can't log in.
This is infuriating and frustrating.
If I were trying to update my phone number, I would have called them as advised on the site. All I'm trying to do is log in with the same phone number I always use. I don't know who operates the IT side of this company, but they're not doing their jobs.
I feel my only option at this point is to change bank accounts, which is pretty crappy of Affirm.
This company use my name and put a loan in my name that I never asked for and never purchase anything for and it's been months and they still keep playing games and now it's on my credit report and his company should be put out of business because I see that they're doing this to a lot of people
You would think if one is a constant paying user they'd be eligible for purchase power always….
Not case
Continue to deny even when you pay as you go and complete payments before agreed timeframe of loan!
Just horrible option people!
Use Afterpay
It's much more credible
In my opinion, with my experience from the company, Affirm, they are a "Theft by Deception Company."
Warning: Affirm is a fraudlent company, and lures customers through these large companies, as if they are offering the consumer a better way to pay off your purchases in the long run. Negative: They will charge you for purchases you did not make, and never do you get the same customer service agent, but they same message. You have no help when any errors occur, on their part.
Do not use affirm for purchases. There was an $80 purchase made on my account that I did not make. They "investigated" and say they have proof it was sent to my address. I looked at every purchase on my Amazon account and there was no purchases in that amount. I just wonder how many other people they've done this to. Use after pay instead never had one issue with them.
I didn't use affirm or any of the other buy now pay later until special occasions, I went to the affirm app and my account on December 27th was closed for unknown reasons, as far as I can see it's as bogus as klarna that use companies you can't contact to return an item. But they want payments.
As soon as you start a loan the problems start. Loans not linked to payments. Appears they want you to lose track of what you're paying for. Contacting them is useless and almost impossible.
I have been getting the running around so much with affirm about identity. It's so annoying because every time I get on the phone they say the same thing. I been updated my number on my credit bureau.
I recently used Affirm to purchase a new home office chair. I've been using Affirm for several years, and have never had any issues with the payment information I set up over 8 years ago. I recently contacted them to notify them of an issue with their system when repeated attempts to make payments continuously failed. I even talked to my bank, who confirmed there are no issues with my account and nothing blocking my payments on their end. Their conclusion: The merchant is experiencing issues. I was running into issues which were resulting in 5xx errors, (I did not manually enter any of the information myself, only confirmed information provided by their on-screen options.) and my payments were disappearing completely from their system within 24 hours. I ended up calling 4x, and not once did I receive any reassurance that information would be escalated to their tech teams to notify them of a potential problem. As they say, you can't help someone who refuses to accept something is wrong to begin with.
IT IS SOOOOO EASY TO ACQUIRE CREDIT WITH AFFIRM, BUT VERRRY DIFFICULT TO CLOSE AN AFFIRM ACCOUNT. I HAVE BEEN TRYING FOR 6 WEEKS TO CLOSE MY AFFIRM ACCOUNT. I HAVE FOLLOWED ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS, TALKED WITH 3 REPRESENTATIVES, AND ALL I AM TOLD IS THE ACCOUNT CANNOT BE CLOSED AT THIS TIME. I NEVER USED THE ACCOUNT, UNFORTUATELY OPENED BY MISTAKE.
I AFFIRM THAT ALL STAY AWAY FROM AFFIRM!
Affirm pre-approved for 880 at Walmart after the Advertisement played at Walmart so I figured it's Christmas time. Why not?
I go to the register and it tells me declined after preapproval. Now let me add the fact I have excellent credit. I hit the button again It says.
Approved 6 hundyesterday.
I'm at register with a car full of c*** I'm at register with a car full of c*** I'm at register with a car full of c*** I don't need for my children.
Then it says declined out of confusion. I hit the button again. It says approve for 200 I hit accept. It charges my card $100 immediately. And then don't let me purchase nothing at Walmart. So I lost a $100.Have to wait 3 to 5b Days for my $100 back. And walk out of the store and decide not to buy anything.
Out of pure irritation. I would.
Like to point out that management at Walmart and the associates were great and very understanding trying to help me. But I can confirm that a firm is bull$#*!
I've been trying to make an account for a month and the message is update your phone number, and when i try to update my phone number sais contact customer service, i called the customer service three times and results is nothing, no one can fix the issue.
Fail company...
Zero star
This company approved me for 700 dollar and when I applied for a virtual card they immediately took out 175.00 from my bank account. However the virtual card would not work and I asked them to cancel it. No rep was able and I spoke to 4 rep and was told it was sent to the back off. As of today 10/17/24 the card is not cancel and per the Supv. Alejamdra it will take up to 30 days to cancel and then they will be able to give me my 175.00 back and my account can not be cancel until then. Wonder how many people they have take money from and advise them it a technical problem and can not be solve until after 30 days.
I ordered something from a girl on instagram. Got kind of skeptical but eventually i got my package a month later ( i ordered nov 4th, recieved nov 6th). The item(s) costed about $75. I have been paying $18.36 every 2 weeks (currently sitting at $36.74). I got a notification yesterday saying my card was declined from wells fargo. I check my email and it says it was declined from affirm, a charge for $59.16? I have no idea where the hell that came from so i called affirm after work. The rep. Did not speak english well and obviously was overseas, and he immediately said " we couldnt find no charge for that under your account, and if something like that happens again contact your bank. " as i'm trying to explain the situation. I only used their dumbass site because i wanted to try and build credit as im 18 years old and wanted to give myself a start to a new responsibility. This company should not be advertised as much as they are, and once im done paying this off im deleting my account. Ive never had to worry about my card but now i keep my card off unless im physically in the store or checking out online because i have a feeling affirm will do something dumb again. NEVER using them again. Its a damn shame.
I used Affirm to order from Manlytshirts. I paid the loan off in a week. I never received the items and come to find out Manlytshirts are a known drop shop and scam. Affirm refuses to give me my money back. They knowingly use vendors that are known scammers and will not give you your money back.
Will not do business with affirm again, I have bought many things, when they make a mistake on ur account, they cannot undo what they have done wrong and it will affect ur credit history, mine was perfect now because of them something is showing up! It was their mistake not mine haven't been late on nothing!
I have used Affirm regularly for the last 2 1/2 years. In the beginning of this month, I received a denial stating that Affirm could not verify my identity. I contacted customer service who was not helpful and stated an agent will contact me within 3 to 5 business days. It's now over three weeks since I made that call so I again contacted Affirm. I could barely understand what the customer representative was saying (again) and was told that there was no record of my last conversation with an agent. And once again I was told someone would call me within 3 to 5 business days.
Answer: On paper legit, sort of, but really a scam. They aren't even who you are financing with.
Answer: I had heard of the company because a friend actually knows the owner. Very sorry I did worst experience I have ever had.
Answer: It's not. They now also are charging large interest amounts. Don't use them.
Answer: Follow Walmart's lead... don't use them! Affirm makes everything complicated.
The company has garnered a mix of feedback, with some customers appreciating its long-standing reliability and ease of use for financing purchases. However, a significant number of reviews highlight persistent issues with customer service, including unresponsive support, difficulties in account management, and problems with payment processing. Many users express frustration over identity verification hurdles and lack of resolution for payment disputes, which has negatively impacted their credit scores. Overall, while the service has potential, its current execution leaves much to be desired, leading to a growing sentiment of dissatisfaction among users.
