It's a reviews site that carefully filters it's reviews based on whether they are making money off you or not. If you pay their protection fees you'll find all kinds of glowing reviews of your business with all the negative ones filtered out, but if you don't pay them off they'll do their best to ruin your company by filtering out the good reviews and only displaying the bad ones. This company is straight up toxic and has ruined many a small businessman. Spread the word and don't let your friends use them either, they're criminals, plain and simple.
I was contacted by Yelp to do advertisement for my business, and was told I would be getting leads immediately. First, I really base my business on word of mouth from clients who are very pleased and recommend my services to others. In the first two days, nothing had happened, so I cancelled the service online, the only way to get in touch with these people. A month later they extracted 375.00 from my bank account for 2 days of service. This is fraudulent, and they should all go to jail! What a bunch of crooks these people are! Never, ever get involved with YELP!
There are many restaurant review sites and "best of" city-sites, but what I like about Yelp is finding reviews for local shopping and services, such as veterinarians, farmers markets etc. If there are a lot of detailed reviews, rather than just a quick star rating, you can get a good idea of how locals feel about a place.
This company will do anything to get your money, but nothing to support your business. Never picks up when you call, never responds to emails. Rejects reviews that are genuinely valid, but then only posts the negative ones. When asked why they only accept negative reviews and reject most of the positive ones they say 'its the algorithm' and they can't do anything about it. I guess they're outside their own system and have a yelp page or I'd leave them a 1-star rating.
Reviews for businesses that have nothing to do with my business are posted under my business name. There doesn't appear to be any check in place and unless you have a paid agreement with YELP you don't have the ability to respond or correct the false postings. (I'm a psychic and the review is for a Chinese medicine doctor for example). I thought once Google purchased YELP this sort of thing would get better.
Don't let any Yelp reps try to get you to sign up for anything if you put a free profile up. They will call and try to give a credit amount to Try their upgraded service then trick you into getting charged monthly. We acquired absolutely no new business calls or customers what so ever. The promises are fake and produced nothing beneficial. When we tried to cancel Before the credit amount was used up(as we were directed to do) they proceeded to keep trying to charge our bank card several times to the point that we actually received a call from our bank and had to get a new card. Yelp is nothing more than a professional money scam operation. Don't make the same mistake we did and Please, Please read all the recent reviews everywhere about Yelp before you waste your time and hard earned money on their trickery scam.
If I could give a negative 100 stars I would. Worst scam on small business ever other than the telephone scammers. They extort money from you and if you don't pay, they will take all your good reviews away and leave you with 0. And, if you dispute a negative view based on a violation of their guidelines and policies, such as proof the review was about another business and not yours and left by disgruntled business affiliates, well guess what? They will say it's credible and leave it. So then your rating drops bc they took your good reviews and left the illegitimate ones and then guess what? Your small business is toast. Can you imagine if all companies were allowed to run their businesses like that? I ask myself, how are they allowed to? I hope someone with lots of money sure the crap out of them and they go under.
Horrible for My Business - Yelp claims they have a software that sorts out reviews according to the recommended. Our business has 19 reviews, all great except for one and that's the one and only review Yelps software recommended on their website. What happened to the other 18 five star happy customer reviews that are not recommended and why? Be aware before doing any business with Yelp!
Yelp will remove your reviews and move them to the "not recommended" section if you do not buy their ads. I run two businesses and this is true for both of them. They claim it is due to their algorithm and the users not having enough reviews or friends. They don't know what to say when I show them users who reviewed with many friends and many reviews. There is no clear rhyme or reason to their supposed algorithm and if you ask them, they tell you exactly that. Also, they deleted one because the user said "God Bless". I am looking into legal action regarding this matter. Don't put too much stake into Yelp and their bully tactics.
What a garbage company. It's bad enough that Yahoo only uses Yelps reviews, a review system that's really only geared for other Yelp users, and if a non-Yelp user tries to leave a review you get accused of asking for reviews and the review does not show. Absolutely annoying on the phone too with their trickery pitches... It's one thing to have your own system, but when it's tied to the #2 most important search engine... The hell with Yahoo and Yelp. Pretty sure the whole thing is run by communists. LOL...
Too bad they don't have negative stars. In which case, I would give them a negative 5. If you want to waste some money, you'll be better off throwing a few hundred dollar bills in the fireplace, and avoid the aggravation and frustration of dealing with them.
I use the British version which is http://www.yelp.co.uk/
A good site for checking out all the local businesses.
Just type in your town name or postcode.
You can browse by business type - restaurants seems very popular.
I find it very easy to use but on the downside some of the reviews are businesses self promoting and others are made by people with a grudge.
Overall - give it a try.
I hope these crooks will go bankrupt soon. Their stock prices have dropped tremendously and it's just a matter of time. These unethical bastards have cheated so many businesses and extorted so much money in return for being left alone with their online presence.
If the businesses does not pay for marketing, they will ruin them by removing all good reviews a leaving all bad reviews posted.
Well I hope karma will get them and all their employees too. Rot in hell losers!
Every single review of our company posted in 2018, 2019, and 2020 has vanished, leaving only 2 negative reviews from 2014 and one positive from 2017. We've tried contacting Yelp, but no one will give us an answer as to what's going on. On every other review site we have at least a 4.5 rating, but because of this, we have a 2.5 rating on Yelp. Something is wrong with their algorithm or staff. No wonder no one asks for Yelp reviews anymore.
They made unauthorized charges for my business that's not open yet. For that reason ALONE, I will never sign up with them again and stay with Google. Yelp most definitely is money hungry and should be avoided if you don't want unauthorized multiple charges to your bank account. Never again for life. Hope it was worth it.
Yelp is nothing but, lies and extortion. They hide the good reviews and just post the bad. In order to black mail you, into advertising with them. They need to be stopped. Innocent small businesses are being injured.
Yelp is definitely not a neutral format to share your own personal feedback or experiences with businesses. Many business owners are allowed to report legitimate reviews and choose which ones they want to send to the not recommended section. Those that pay a premium for their advertising on Yelp have this power and those that have a free listing do not. Anytime you contact Yelp, they will lie and state that this is just not true. Explain this, how can they allow these same entitled owners to post positive reviews for their own businesses?!? This proves that Yelp is becoming obsolete and hopefully another platform emerges that is not so flawed and where owners cannot manipulate their customers' reviews as they see fit. Or worse, chastise them publicly for posting their feedback in the first place.
Horrible service. We listed our business with Yelp since we already have Google and FB business listings, we thought another would be good. We asked those customers who had already left reviews on FB to review us in Yelp. They did. And their robot decided NONE, yes NONE of the 5 reviews we received were "approved". These are actual customers. We have proof. But there is no way to override their robot that rejects reviews. No way. No one can approve them. Yelp is a scam. Harassing you calling every day.
I've owned a business for 25 years. In one month sn X girlfriend was able to ( and still is) writing 50+ false reviews ( and still counting) under many different names, both male and female. I need to DAILY report them as hatred, and every day they remove them. But I'm supposed to do this every dam day because they refuse to remove my business or stop any further reviews. They literally provide a forum for harassment. To be blunt Yelp is a F'ing joke, They are criminals.
I have an online profile for my business on Yelp and have had many positive reviews left there over the years, but about 10 of them have been removed from the listing and placed on another page which is difficult to even find due to their "algorithm". After talking to a Yelp rep (they call me about once or twice a year to try to get me to advertise with them), I was told that since the reviewer in each of those cases did not click a star * rating when filling out the review, the algorithm does not find that the review was relevant and removes it from the page. What a ridiculous business practice! 10 great reviews removed because the user did not click a star rating!
Answer: Yes, it's true or they go to "not recommended"
Answer: Yelp are crooks, find some where else
Answer: For one of my business they made me pay for their monthly service which I never did, so my positive review was hidden.
Answer: Look somewhere else. As the reviews here show Yelp is notoriously unreliable.
Answer: Yes they erase all reviews they darn well wish to delete. CROOKED YELP!
Yelp has a rating of 1.4 stars from 1,588 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Yelp most frequently mention customer service, small business and credit card. Yelp ranks 244th among Search sites.
