The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily concerning its review management practices and aggressive advertising tactics. Many users express frustration over hidden reviews, perceived extortion for advertising, and a lack of genuine customer support. Positive aspects are scarce, with some customers appreciating the platform's potential for connecting with local businesses. However, the overwhelming sentiment reveals a distrust in the company's ethics and practices, leading to calls for accountability and transparency. Overall, the feedback indicates a critical need for Yelp to address these serious concerns to rebuild trust among its users.

As a new Yelper I am frustrated by the fact that Yelp continues to allow others to create multiple listings for one business or create bogus listings altogether. Many reviews that should be sent to the not recommended section that read as fake are not while others that seem genuine and detailed are automatically sent to the not recommended section and not posted. Several of my reviews have been successfully posted and then a few days later sent to the not recommended section. Yelp's algorithms are wack and easily manipulated as warranted by those who pay for Yelp's advertising services. If you email Yelp, the reps basically copy and paste from a script. They are probably bots and not human. Seriously thinking of deleting my account altogether. I can't wait to see this review in the not recommended section.
**Update: all of my reviews have been transferred to the not recommended section courtesy of Yelp. Also, my emails to their customer service department go unanswered. Nice.
I have over 38 FIVE STAR REVIEWS hidden on my business page Mole Trappers PDX over the last 3 years. ALL NEW REVIEWS SINCE I HAVE NOT SIGNED UP FOR YELP ADS HAVE BEEN HIDDEN. This behavior should not be tolerated from a large company like Yelp. This is absolute proof that yelp holds your reviews hostage until you PAY UP and buy their stupid ads that don't work. I hope yelp goes bankrupt and me and my business colleagues will do everything in our power to help do so.
Horrible horrible business - a million shame on you. This company has not integrity no shame - they can sell you for money in a blink of an eye. After i filled a request on their site - i got a tone of jun email in less than a minute - SHAME ON YOU - find a better way to make money - this is ILLEGAL
This company hurts small business. I advertised with this online company once and nothing really came of my ads. Shortly after I canceled, I received a horrible review from someone I never did any business with. At the same time I received three legit reviews that were not recommended. I will not ever use or recommend yelp for any search options whatsoever. This company needs to be brought down for their unscrupulous practices!
Unscrupulous business ethics. Called to restaurant and sell their ads products and lure customer to try their product and promised no charges will be imposed unless business owner agree after trial period to continue service. But they charge you anyway even though you tell them to cancel. They didn't even kept their promise to call you to ask for approval and start charging you fee saying that they have brought you how many customer over a certain period of time. But clearly our restaurant never even have more business in that trial month but they claimed that they brought ore 5000 over customers in the restaurant. And they charged 600 per month claiming that customer click and order.
Very bad business practices.
Customer Service is Rude & Condensending. They even hang up on you. You ask to speak to a Manager, they send you to a Voicemail, which they never call back. Your business ends up on Yelp somehow with incorrect information, you want it removed, they won't remove it. This Website needs to be shut down! Then you ask to claim and update it. They say they are sending an email to claim it, they never send it. Again, this website needs to shut down!
Yelp is removing my positive Reviews from
Real customers tell me what is the point of a A review system when they try to make their system look real by removing positive reviews. In no way I'm saying I'm perfect but for sure I have proof that actual customers wrote those reviews that you removed. What's the point of telling my customers to write yelp reviews if they just get remove what a discouraging tool. If I could write a yelp review for yelp I would write one stars who is the worst company I've ever had dealings with. Here is the cherry on top a customer wrote a negative review and I reached out to that customer to please give us a second chance they change their review and made it a positive and then it was removed. Your system is worthless. And should have no Weight or BARRY on any actual customer that wants to have a meal anywhere.
I will agree with others, they seems like criminals, they goal is to get your money in order to keep your good reviews.
Yelp is s Criminal Organization that strives on posting drama reviews and hiding good reviews. I have factual proof and know that sooner or later an employee of Yelp will blow the whistle. They say it's algorithms. Trust me they are criminals and they will be forced to clean up their act or get out of the profession. They are a disgrace to Google and others that play fair. Steve
After repeated sales calls I agreed to try the ad and promotion service for 1 month, I told the rep I specifically only wanted 1 month, I did receive a $300 discount for signing up that month, but they don't tell you the service continues unless YOU know to log back in and cancel the service. I have a million things going on and after 1 month I totally forgot, there was no disclosure sent by them or on their site that we are responsible for cancelling. On top of that the price doubled the following month due to no $300 credit, so I was charged another $247 for 4 days? I didn't realize I had to cancel until 4 days into the next month, but I was thinking it would only be a few $ not $247. And I received no business, no calls, or clients during the ad periods. This is unfair business practices, sneaky subscriptions and it's got scam written all over it. They're just hoping you don't figure it out in time so they can keep charging you. If they disclosed to me ahead of time how the payment process worked then fine, but they don't, they say you should already know. Not fair. Totally unethical and misleading company. Beware of their sales tactics.
I am one of the most dissatisfied
I am one of the most dissatisfied customers ever. They lied to me from they one they made a mistake of mixing my businesses that were not even mine I have spoken for hours Yara, was the first to make the mistake Dexter who i even cancelled and still billed me, Tory who was to fix our problem and never did they charge me a total of $422.21 and last but not least Maxwell who finally just told me no they can't give me my money back. I even called my credit card and they told them I had a contract with them wish they had told me no contract.
To all of you out there be careful this is the second time they still from me.
I am constantly being harassed by these people to advertise. I explained in detail why I had my account the way I wanted it but that was not good enough for Yelp. The person I was talking to last week would not listen, just continued to try to sell me on advertising, using, "We" as if I was on board with her. She also kept saying, "Like" and "You know" Good God, a little professionalism goes a loooooooooooong way. In addition, she wasn't even viewing my page or had me in the right county! I finally hung up and she dared to call me back this afternoon. I was NOT pleased! She went through the same spew as last week and again I told her the same reason I had my account the way I had it. I reminded her she had told me last week all calls are recorded so why doesn't she know what I told her in our last conversation. I told her not to call again and she said she will put me on the no call list. I am blocking the number I was called from today and any number I get from from Yelp.
We are a small business.
We set up our account, then the HARASSMENT started to get money from us. I've rarely gotten so mad and upset with salespeople.
While we were actually willing to advertise, they would get me so mad with their harassment that I did not.
But then, as you don't pay, suddenly we have a fake 1 star review appear (has no actual review of us and clearly a fake) and our 23 other real 5 stars disappeared and got hidden.
We called, and were told it's their algorithm that does the selection and there is nothing they can do.
Well I think they need to invest on better engineers (algorithm? A joke) and business people (crooks and harassment).
I asked them fir the contact of the person who wrote the fake review. Of course no answer.
I originally was going to sue them. Then I figured, I am surely not the only one and with that kind of business model, they should not last long anyway.
I hope they end up with nothing, they really deserve it trying to kill small businesses like that. Karma...
I have a small voice coaching business. Yelp was hassling me with telephone calls about 2 or 3 times a week. I was not responding, but at one point, may it be because I have had enough, may it be because I had a rough day and the associate was rude, I told them that I would never pay for advertising there, as I am using other means to advertise my business, namely word of mouth.
After that, yelp proceeded to hide my reviews, and after calling them, they started saying some bull about an AI software controlling which reviews are good and which are bad.
I knew at that moment that it's payback for me not paying them.
As a business owner, I'm encouraging all of you to stop using yelp.
Their business associates will keep calling you every other to buy their plans to promote your business on yelp... if you have listed your business on yelp. If you tell them that you are not interested they talk to you so rudely and actually this person give me suggestions that I should write on my yelp listing that I am accepting new clients. Really. Who these people are to tell me what to do with my business...
Yelp is removing reviews left and right for good businesses. And it's a good Yellow Pages. Not the problem is
As a busines owner, you pay for ads. Afterwards, their analytics display a jump. I did this, but THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. I checked with my customers and none of the new customers used Yelp. Now, are you paying so that the graph looks better, but no REAL WAY to prove the analytics. Also, I have a lot of good customers that wanted to talk about my business on Yelp and put reviews, because I'm a small business, they know me, they know Yelp can help, and I gave good service. What happens? YELP REMOVES THE ADS.
So there is no true way to compete. I mentioned this to Yelp, and ALSO they advertised that I would get $150 in ads. They did not mention that I have to spend $150 first. I refused to pay. Now, I cannot even change my business' check-in offer. What a scam.
The problem is that Yelp is still very manipulative and influential. How I wish there was a class action to shut it down. I don't care about the money, but Yelp's filter is a scam.
Yelp is not the way to go if you are trying to grow your business. Please read the reviews of more unhappy customers than happy. In my case, yelp blocked my reviews saying they didn't recommend that they be shown, you do not have any control over your yelp business page, they dictate it all the way. And even if a client did want to contact you, you will never get the messages because they can't contact you directly, everything is controlled by yelp. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY WITH YELP. NOT WORTH IT
Here is my experience on yelp:
I own a small business. We have numerous great reviews on yelp. BUT yelp will only show good reviews if you advertise with them. If you don't, they say their algorithm has decided that the reviews are not legitimate. I can assure you that they were because I recognized the names of our customers.
So then I decided to advertise with yelp and received no customers but was still charged $500+
It is expensive and ineffective advertising. They say they are NOT a review site which is the only reason people use yelp. I strongly suggest leaving using other sites. Yelp is a scam.
Our company has been making reputation management a top priority and so we have encouraged reviews for the past two months. It did not happen immediately, but as of today over half of the reviews we had are "not recommended". So the most recent review we have is from 2017. TWO YEARS AGO! I asked a Yelp customer service rep about it and of course there isn't anything they can do due to the software. But yet you can do something about a review that needs flagging? It feels very one-sided. I will no longer refer to Yelp as a medium for reviews. Ridiculous!
Yelp claims to have a well-to-do process in weeding out reviews not recommended. However 2 out of 3 of my reviews were not recommended. What's crazy I've NEVER asked for my clients to leave reviewers and when they did it's blocked. This definitely hurts my business.
Answer: Yes, it's true or they go to "not recommended"
Answer: Yelp are crooks, find some where else
Answer: For one of my business they made me pay for their monthly service which I never did, so my positive review was hidden.
Answer: Look somewhere else. As the reviews here show Yelp is notoriously unreliable.
Answer: Yes they erase all reviews they darn well wish to delete. CROOKED YELP!
