Not only did it take two weeks to get service to my house, but in less that two weeks, I reached the 150gb data cap, and the service slowed down so much that it can't be used.

Over charged and expensive
February 8, 2023

I am a current customer and due to the area it was limited availability on internet service, which Viasat takes advantage of. I pay almost $300 for less than 200gb. I then was apprved for ACP program for a $30 discount. I called in December and with thru he whole application and questions then was confirmed discount would be applied. I now call this month and it was so conveniently not applied so I have to wait another month (FEB) to get the discount because THEIR system did not apply. Which the gentleman on the call could not answer why just if it doesn't go thru you have to call again or even transfer to someone who could. For this high of internet pricing it should be the best. BUT NO overcharged and laggy internet. GO ANYWHERE ELSE! I will be cancelling my account this week and will just wait for AT&T to finalize service here. I will wait 3 months but $80 for up to 1000gb is way better than $266 for less than 300gb. I honestly would have stayed if hey were honest enough to admit to their mistake and apply my little credit. Lost a customer over $30, but hey business as usual. Vent over LOL

DO NOT USE VIASAT
December 8, 2021

I will not emphasize this enough to DO NOT use Viasat as your internet provider. If you want to not be able to manage your billing because their site and app is down 24/7, have an extremely difficult time to reach any customer service rep to talk to but only be told "sorry for the lack of service is there anything else I can do for you today?" Or when you cancel ( because you aren't even able to load a movie on Netflix) they require you to get on top of your roof to retrieve a device that you have to return ( even though a technician is the one that placed it) when you don't have the proper equipment or safety to do so your not charged $300 dollar and taxes then maybe this service is for you. Their rates are astronomically priced for a service you don't even get. After calling letting them know the site and service issues they don't really assist or ask if you want someone to come look at it "free of charge" until your cancelling your services. But if you want that technician to come remove that peace safely for you is $100 for his services. DO NOT USE VIASAT. I spoke with the supervisor George from Viasat who said he could NOT help with waiving my cancellation fee ( because of their pos service) or the service technician fee to remove the piece they are requiring you to send back safely that they place ON TOP OF YOUR ROOF. I made the mistake and believed their advertising of "customer service" and "great High speed internet" let me save you the time and money DO NOT USE VIASAT INTERNET or trust me your going to be the next one star review along with the rest of us.

Bad customer care and service
December 6, 2021

I ordered Viasat to get internet at a remote house. The sales said that the technician would come out and test reception for speed at the location before installing. The technician said it was a lie - that he couldn't test the speed until I signed the contract and he installed the equipment.

So it got installed and I was able to use it for 1 day... next in the saga it turns out I had to cancel my account. I was fine with paying the cancellation fee but what happens after is ridculous.

I called an explained that I was driving 15 hours to pick up the equipment. They never sent instructions or a list of what was needed. The guys I spoke to on my way down said there was a part on the dish that had to be removed with a screwdriver but he didn't sound very sure and no email follow up. I looked at the dish but nothing had screws on it - only bolts - so I didn't want to be charged for destruction fees and left it.

I waited for the box and it never arrived. Turns out they had a system error that had my account on hold and the box never shipped. They are supposedly sending a new one but now the 30 days to return equipment is almost done and they are going to charge me the equipment fee even though it was an internal error. In addition, they finally sent me instructions that shows the piece on the dish to be removed when I can't be at the house 15 hours away to do anything. I don't know anyone there and I am not living there. So instead of providing any help - they tell me it it is all automatic for charging - they can't stop it - and I have to pay for the removal of the piece on the dish and then it has to be sent to me and then I have to send it to them.

The employees try to be helpful but the supervisors and management are not helpful and do not care about their customers. I would have been happy if they had made any effort to help or to show empathy.

Moved to a new area where there was no cable internet available and the house we purchased had a Viasat dish on the roof (stupid!) so we called to see what their deal was. We do basic web surfing, email, and stream Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. for a couple hours or so each night. The salesman felt we would be fine with their 25mps "unlimited data plan" which was about $100/month and they require a 24 month contract. It worked okay for about two weeks and then it slowed to the point we could barely use the internet and couldn't stream anything at all. When we contacted them about it we were informed that our "unlimited data plan" allowed us to use X amount (can't recall the number) of data each month and when that limit was reached they begin throttling back the speed. Since it was basically unusable for the second half of the month and we were tied in to a long term contract with them, we eventually upgraded to their 50mps, $150/month plan. Same thing began happening consistently 20 days into each month when we reached our limit (100 gigs). Also, I noticed we were being charged $180/month so I went online to see what made up the total and found they don't put any billing detail online. When I called them I was informed I was paying $15/month for their optional equipment warranty plan which I had declined during the sign-up. After 6-7 months of putting up with their horrible service we discover another provider who had glowing reviews and was considerably cheaper with no contract required, so we bought our way our of the Viasat contract (another $255 down the tubes) and made the switch. Now pay $90/month for 25mps unlimited and it works great. I have never had a worse experience than with Viasat. It's a dishonest, deceitful, lying company and I now know many others in our neighborhood who share my opinion.

STAY AWAY!
January 23, 2023

STAY AWAY! This is the most horrible internet experience I have ever encountered and if I could give negative stars, I would. I signed up for service in June of 2022. The speed was slow and the latency was not working for my home office. I cancelled my service in October of 2022 once I discovered a mobile hotspot was 10x faster and was a much cheaper option. They provided a box for equipment return with an image instruction sheet showing what equipment was to be returned and how to pack it in the box. It could not have been easier to follow. All equipment was packed up and shipped. I paid my last invoice and everything was done.
Fast-forward to Monday, January 16th, 2023. I received a phone call from a debt collector saying I had an outstanding balance for non-returned equipment. I immediately disputed that claim and called Viasat to see why my account had been sent to collections in the first place. They informed me that the modem (last item packed at the top of the box, first item to be seen when box was opened) was not returned. I protested and the put my account in as an "ESCALATION" to figure out what happened and why that item did not get scanned back in.
On Thursday, January 19th, 2023, Viasat debited the balance out of my account anyway! No phone call, no prior authorization, no contact whatsoever. I called immediately. The customer service operator stated that, since it had already been sent through as a debit, it could not be recalled. My immediate question, why was my account debited BEFORE the outcome of the conclusion of the internal "ESCALATION"? She did not have an answer.
On Monday, January 23rd, 2023, I received yet ANOTHER phone call from a debt collector asking how I wished to take care of the outstanding balance toward this account. I am beyond angry at this point. Save yourself the trouble, get a cellular signal booster for your home and work with a hotspot. My apologies if you see this review on multiple platforms.

VIASET LIES AND CHEATS THEIR CUSTOMERS. THEY ARE CROOKS!
A class action lawsuit should be put against Viasat high speed internet service. The sales lady lied to me about getting 25mbps of speed. They charged me $150 to set up the system. I contacted them back because I was getting 1mbps download and 0 upload. I contacted them about 15 times, recorded all the conversations and speed tests to prove that the sales person lied to me. They charged my $80 also for a month service after my service was cancelled. They also refused to refund my money even though they lied and the service never worked. They are crooks, and scammers and I want my money back. I will be consulting a lawyer to set up a class action lawsuit because the stress and deceptive practices are not acceptable. I have cancer and I believe they created more stress in my life that will shorten my life. DO NOT ORDER SERVICE FROM THEM. I have video and audio proof that this company should be shut down. They cheated me and many other people. I live in Medford Oregon and I am asking others who have been cheated by VIASAT to speak up and let's get our money back from them. They are refused to refund me back my money even though their service was defective. I am mad and angry at these crooks and thieves. How dare you lied and cheat me and refuse to give me my money back. Look at the photo showing my internet speed which is unacceptable and you know it.

Bend over
January 26, 2022

If you've made it to this review site, I'm certain you won't make the same mistake I did because all these reviewers had experiences as uniformly terrible as mine with this company. They've bilked me out of about $500, so I hope my reviews in total cost them more than that sum.

1. Their rep said that their packages would handle my speed an GB needs. I should have done more research, or I would have known that you can't run Epic and Zoom simultaneously with upload speeds that they promised. Also, their GB cap was insufficient for someone doing my work who has 4 kids at home who stream. I was deceived on both accounts.
2. You have to sign up for a no-trial-period 24 month contract. That should have been a warning. I was a fool.
3. The installer (who clearly is contract labor) asked me dubiously whether I really wanted Viasat, almost like he was begging me to say no. Damn, Jose, I should have listened to you. You really knew what a shady business this is, and I should have heeded your heavily implied hints.
4. At the modem I was getting upload speeds no better than 0.5 mpbs. No way I could work at home. I rebooted the modem, used my cell as a hotspot, and hoped it would improve. We tried troubleshooting on the phone. No dice.
5. Then I read reviews about this company and decided to jump ship. Had other internet installed and called to cancel ViaSat. Their contract clearly says I'd have to pay for any visits to my house by a repair tech if I cancelled the service before 3 months. Nope - don't send me a tech. Let me out of this relationship now!
6. Five days of crap internet, and they charged me for a full month. No proration. $120.
7. And $15/mo for the next 23 mos (=$345).
8. All told, about $500. Any company that stands by it's product wouldn't do this. I'd love to see what percent of their revenue is from early cancellations.

Some day I'm going to get a post card telling me about a class action lawsuit and I'm entitled to some money because of their deceptive business practices. Keeping my receipts for that.

Where to begin. I was warned over and over to not get Viasat. Why I didnt listen is because yes I was limited on service options like anyone willing to use this service. The reviews for Viasat along with their competitors was mediocre to say the least.

So service gets setup and within the first 3 days we hit our service allotted amount which then decreased our speed. To explain why its not possible is because is our family remote farm and no one lives there permanently we only go on the weekends. So we watched one movie, used it a little the next day and went home. When I found out about the service I was told that my TV that was plugged in but turned off continued to suck the juice the whole time while I was gone and that ate up the service. Along with a lap top shut off that was just sitting there. I was wrong for questioning that per the agent. This went on and on.

Oct -Dec 2021 We didnt even have service. Called to have it fixed. No one showed but yet they still took the money. We finally had enough and cancelled. Ding Ding I had not had service for 3 months but still got charged an early termination fee and they still charged me the last month of service that could not be used. They immediately changed my account so I could not change my payment method so they could still take my money. I then had to wait 30 days for the cancellation and I would receive a box up to weeks after the 30 days cancellation to then return the equipment within 30 after the 30 days I already waited.

Guess what no box. I then had to call on my own to find out about the box and return label. So sorry we will send you another one. Good thing I was able to stop my payment method on the phone after get mad with customer service. Low and behold 3 days later I get a threatening email that I changed the payment options on my account and the 30 days was coming up and I would owe them an additional $300 plus tax for the equipment because the asset recovery team was now getting involved. Of course no department knew what the other was doing and of course they were so sorry. All I can do is wait for a replacement box and label which will arrive after the 30 days when the equipment is supposed to be back and it will not stop the recovery department from harassing me because they do not know what the customer care team is doing or noted on the account. An absolute joke.

All I can say is run!
