ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

I've been using Poshmark for 2 years and love it! Only thing I don't like about it is taking my own pictures. So, with thredUp they do all that crap for you but at a high price. I sent in at least 30 pieces of clothing at the end of April. I didn't hear anything except that they recieved my bag until mid-June. Only to hear back that they only took 8 pieces and because of the costs of shipping I made a whopping, wait for dramatic effect, $. 98! Not even enough to buy something on the site and maybe not worth withdrawing. Thank God I requested they send everything they didn't except back to me. I'll be posting it on Poshmark.
I recently used thredup. This was feb2017 I sent in my bag to them with alittle over20 items they accepted about 16 of them. Each of my items were listed at about 12-15dollars a piece okay great right. WELL NO. I received a card from them for 14.23 for items that they sold for12-15 a piece and there were about 16 pieces so u do that math. N I got this card in June2017. This place is a rip off they take advantage urbetter off just donating the clothes u can. Feb-june2017 plus only getting 14.23 cents for clothing that was selling for a total of about 300 come on could have at least given me 80dollars.
So disappointed in this company! Quality of clothing poor. Get better deals at thrift stores in my area, on EBay, Itsy, etc. will never purchase from these guys. Real scam.
Why are all of the reviews about sending merchandise to your company negative. I have sent over 70 lbs of clothing to you and have heard nothing after reading all the reviews I think I need to contact the Attorney Generals office and the BBB.
I have never seen anything like this before just an awful company literally stole almost $1,000 dollars worth of my designer clothing and I received $16.45 store credit. They lied and said some things were worn and they were not. No kind of apology just a bunch of crooks. I could gave my clothes away. Everyday they send me a e-mail your items have sold where is my money ~ Dishonestly to the 10th power. ~ Never ever again. :(
Ive ordered women's and children's clothes eight times and the quality and prices were great. I'm an avid thrift store shopper and the prices are close and most items I have purchased still had the tags on them.
I also sent three items in my clean up bag and received $70. I was sure, after reading these other reviews, that I would be shafted but I guess people most likely think their old clothes are in better condition than they really are.
I'm sure I used this website once or twice and all those times. I've been very disappointed. I don't really expect much for my clothes but for 25 or even less?! Like what the h*ll. Some stuff I sent in were never worn and even had tags. You would think brands would mean something. Never using them again. I sent a $#*!load of stuff and am only getting $17 back. Congratulations me, you played yourself.
Yes, you can get some great deals on this. No, you will not make any money. Sell your stuff on eBay if you want to make more than pennies. I really don't understand how they can accept a bunch of cheap crappy Walmart and Target clothes and yet deny some like new Stuart Weitzman shoes... WTF? Well, I guess at least they donate my rejected items to charity I'm pretty disappointed, not only by the payout but with how long it took to process. It took a month just to receive my bag and it only had to travel about 120 miles to San Leandro. Then another 2 months to process it. I would definitely not recommend them to sell your stuff. Sure, it's super easy and takes little effort on your part. Sure, I didn't expect that much from them -- but more than $20. AND I sent in all new or like new items. Some even with tags, which is exactly what they say they're looking for. Oh well, it's done. I didn't want the stuff anyway, but didn't expect to be paid hardly anything. Stay away!
I have been an avid ThredUP user for years and have previously had wonderful luck as a buyer and a seller. However it seems like they have experienced some growing pains. As a seller, they seem to be being more selective and offering things more as consignment instead of outright buying. They also favor mid range brands like Loft over designer goods, which makes sense as a business since it is a faster turnaround on a smaller investment. But it is hard to ship off a designer dress and not know if they will accept it. A recent frustration has been the lengthy turnaround in processing, which can take months. As a buyer, there have been more delays in shipping, which I assume is due to large stock and an increase of orders. Though they seem selective in purchasing, it is also difficult to sort through the stock to find a stand out gem. It is pretty good for a young professional trying to build up a work wardrobe and was essential during and after my pregnancy. I'm hopeful the customer service and variety of stock will bounce back.
They take months to process and the offer an amount that is pennies. I would rather donate to a charity I believe in. I am sorry that I ever elected to try to do business with this company. Avoid at all costs. In NYC try Buffalo Exchange they are fair and actually try to help the community.
This company sucks. You blindly send them your clothes. They never confirm or contact you. You need to train your self on how to check status and collect the measly amount of money they consider the value of your bags worth of clothes. Do Not send them anything. They must sell it for their own gain. There is NO WAY my clothes were worth the $#*! amount they paid me. Crooks. Thieves. Stay Away!
I wished I read these reviews before I sent in my bag. I always donate my clothes, but this time I thought i make a little money back. But I see that i was wrong. Thred up need to b ashamed of themselves. I will not shop or"sell" or sale to them again. Better business does need to b contacted it is a form of stealing. Yes we voluntarily send in clothes on intentions of getting paid. In reality no one is getting paid but pennies. Thred up wantsquality name brand good clothes. Shoes, purses But don't want to give quality money!
I've been buying from Thred Up for over a year and absolutely love them. I've never been disappointed in anything I've received from them. People are always complimenting me on my clothes and I'm proud of the fact that I can wear very nice name brand clothing and be able to afford them because of this company. My husband loves them too because they save him so much! And if they are used, you sure can't tell it! They look like new! I LOVE THRED UP!
I was getting ready to send a bag of clothes but now I won't. I rarely see so many bad reviews. I hope the purchase I just made a purchase from them and hopefully I am satisfied with that, but as far as sending in my clothes, your warnings were heard and I won't do it. I give to charity and will continue to give to them.
0 rating... complete Scam! Sent 19 items many brand new with tags, clean, modern items including a Jessica McClintock dress and new pair of suede jeans to receive $2.65! Yes thats two dollars. Insulting! Cannot get clothes back... BEWARE
I sent in 30+ items, all the brands they asked for. They said they were keeping 12 items to sell. They gave 16$ I waited weeks for this info, and now I have to wait 14 more days to get my $. NWT Ralph Lauren shirt. They gave me 0.75 cents. Really?, I'd rather donate next time. My time and effort alone was worth more.
Never use this site. I loved it and was purchasing many items from them at great discounted prices and as I started reviewing my orders I see overcharges not listed anywhere for up to 40.00 per item! I found that over 10 of my items were overcharged sometimes for 15 dollars on one item. I noticed my sub totals were not matching what I bought. They list a tax price but then say that depending on where item ships from they can add more money to the item without even telling you so you end up paying much more than you think for the item. Also I sent in a huge box of items to sell with brand new name brand items and they only gave me a 5.00 credit and they won't send u back your items even if they say they can't use them. I never write reviews but had to after being ripped off hundreds of dollars from secret over charges!
I sent in a bag of very nice things more than six weeks ago and it still hasn't been processed. I thought I'd get a portion of the selling price, but from what all sellers are saying, you just get a tiny up-front payment and then they charge high prices that they keep. What a scheme--practically free inventory. Horribly disappointed!
On their website, if they give you an upfront value for your items. It's not the % it shows, I have a pair of $400 brand new shoes that I never wore sent to them, and they sold it for $110, and I got nothing, total for the upfront I got for multiple expensive pieces including new Hudson Jeans ($31), and few other items that hasn't sold for just $20 back. Which is not 55% of the sales price. So, be careful what you send them, you will get 10% back, it's better to take it to your local consignment store than thredup.
I sent in a bag stuffed full of clothes. In it were also 2 (worn once by my daughter) and in perfect condition from Brooks Brothers ($100 each dress) and I never got a notification of how much I would receive. When I looked at the credit I had from before I sent in my bag it was $7 less. They gave me $2 and change for my entire bag and then charged me the $9.99. It was outrageous! I could have donated those beautiful dresses to someone or sold them elsewhere. This site is a rip!
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
