I suppose thredUP can afford to be picky about what items they accept for resale, since they seem to have quite a large selection. However, I've been turned off to using this site after attempting to sell with them... The estimated payouts are almost laughable.
I've purchased a few beautiful jackets (blazers) from ThredUp and am so very pleased with my goodies! The jackets are in beautiful condition - ready to wear - and have not had any issues with the fit. I do wish you offered more intimate sizing info on your pages - can only help.
But even if you buy clothing, it feels tainted because you know this company has screwed over someone else the way they did you. They gave me about two dollars for great clothing that I wish I would have never sent to them. Overall, just stay away. Not even worth rewarding a thief like app.
Really disappointed when I sent a large bag of clothing in, and they accepted 10 items - all of which sold - but I received $8 in return. Even with the understandable fee for shipping, each individual piece was sold for around $10 so I feel pretty ripped off. Would have been nice if there had been any indication beforehand that this is basically the same as donating to a local thrift store for free.
Do not send your clothes in - you will get nothing for them. I even had some clothes that still had tags on them and many nice tops that i bought recently but have since lost weight and they are too big. Out of at least 50 items I sent in I ended up with about $25 - may 50 cents an item. Would have been better off donating them and getting the tax deduction. This company is probably making huge profits but you definitely won't profit from it. Run the other way!
I really wish I would have done more research and read these reviews before sending two whole bags of either barley worn or not worn at all clothing. I would have much rather given my clothing to people I know that need them. But thinking thredup would be similar to Twice, I'd get a reasonable return, that I would have most likely just turned around and spent in their store anyway. BOY WAS I WRONG! They deemed one of the items not clean because it had a piece of lint on it. Seriously? I really hope these people go out of business. While I did get a whopping 25 dollars and some change (it seems I made off better than most people complaining) I sent them hundreds of dollars of name brand clothing. Buyers also beware! Buying from them you are screwing the sellers. What a shame.
Three bags set in. These were all nearly new or had tags on them. First off, it took them almost a month to process my bags. They advertise it as taking weeks.
Second, 2 bags gave yielded me $7.38.
The list of accepted items has changed twice.
A 2 piece outfit (dress & jacket) were listed as separate pieces.
Satin jacket and pants with tags was sent, it didn't make the cut.
It's a scam, plain and simple, don't hey involved. If your want to sell your stuff and get money for it, use poshmark.
Hi Vickie, thank you for your review. We take all customer feedback very seriously as we continue to improve our service. We have sent you a private message. We hope to hear from you soon.
Love buying second hand and ThredUp makes it easier to buy responsibly. Clothes shopping is a favorite pastime but I'll admit the fashion industry is one of the most ridiculous and out of control businesses. I can shop guilt-free with free returns, so I order away and try on everything once it arrives. Only complaint is the website needs some improvements to make shopping easier: 'favorites' function, no reservations, more item info like care instructions (one order consisted of all dry-clean only items which would've been good to know upfront). Would be a five-star rating with those improvements, but overall very happy.
I've used the site 4 times and had good experience each time. Clothing was just as described. I am happy with their shipping speed and service also. It's a great way to get quality second hand clothes for growing kids. I've even got a few items for myself, from the new with tags section! Wish some items had front and back pics, but otherwise no complaints. Great option for selling your own name brand stuff too!
All the items I ordered were in excellent condition. They looked brand new and like they had never been worn. Prices were great so I was able to stock up on many pieces without killing my budget. Highly recommend.
After realizing all my fall/winter work outfits were several years old and very, very worn, I figured I'd try thredUP to add some new life to my wardrobe. I somehow found 8 beautiful dresses, all of which fit impeccably and are exactly as described. It might not be as immediately gratifying as finding that perfect dress tucked away in your favorite second hand store - but it's a heck of a lot easier, and there's so much choice!
Mostly sold talbots and similar quality. Payouts usually only 15% of list, which gets me a couple dollars before fees! I have sent in my 4th and last bag to them. They listed a genuine leather jacket from cold creek as faux leather for $9, netting me $1.35. You can definitely do better elsewhere as a seller. It takes about a month to be paid. Shipping is VERY SLOW. I ordered a bag to ship in 10 days ago, as of yesterday they had not even shipped it! As a buyer I like the site, thats why the got one star. Stuff I bought was in nice shape and well packaged but every order takes around 2 weeks to get. Even when I don't opt for bundled Shipping, they still wait and consolidate before shipping!
What a clever idea... online shopping at a used clothing store... my fave shopping! Wonderful way to recycle barely used and great brand name clothing & handbags.
I ordered about 10-15 items in two different orders and I was thrilled with each and every item I received. Silk slacks, 2 linen shirts, 3 skirts, 2 scarves, black moccasins and a pair of leather boots. All, in like new or very good condition. I cruise the site daily now! Thanks so much for the quick shipping.
Love the sorting ability of your website. Search functions and ability to limit parameters are amazing. Do wish there was a limiting constraint for fabric type. Would like to search for just silk dresses or factor out Modal or polyester fabrics.
I only purchased with 20 or 40% off coupons and free shipping.
The packaging was much nicer than I expected. Better than what I get from department stores.
Love how there are so many unique pieces. I received so many compliments at my last Christmas party. Now I'm discovering top design brands that look good on me, that I can afford!
I started shopping with Thredup over a year ago and have had so many bad experiences that I'm done. On 5 separate occasions now, I've ordered things that were described "like new" with no damage, but then they show up with very obvious stains, or large holes in them where the seam has come apart, or the matching belt that's supposed to come with the item (and was pictured with it on the site) is missing. Each time, I contacted customer service and nothing was resolved. They are very rude and not helpful in the slightest.
I also sent a bag of clothes to them, and like many other people have mentioned, they only paid a tiny fraction of what they ended up selling my clothes for. I sent in high-end items, many of which still had tags on, and the bag was packed completely full. They sent me about $18. I could have easily made over $100 by going to the local consignment shop. Seriously, don't waste your time or your money. They're a total joke.
This company will not be around long. First of all you are charged for the bag which is hidden somewhere in the small print. So many items don't get accepted, and I mean brand new never worn designer clothes. Where do they go? Good question I'm sure they were not donated. No control over the items that go on consignment, and to get them back you have to pay 10.99, that's crazy! Don't do it use Poshmark!
When thredUP was first starting, I felt their payouts were reasonable. It's convenient so I was excited. After my first 3 bags, each of which fetched over $100. Things changed. The next bags I sent (with comparable items) received $14, $9 for name brand (boutique brands, Matilda Jane, etc) clothes, many with tags! Payouts are lower than garage sale now.
I've had the best experience with thredUP, you guys know what you're doing from start to finish!
Getting gently used clothes for a steal is good enough but then you go further to wrap them and tag each one. Thank you for this special place!
I've completely changed my whole wardrobe, without breaking the bank, and without driving all over town. Their customer service is fantastic, and are eager to please. I'm waiting on two boxes right now!
Please don't sell anything to this company. I wish I would have read these reviews before I sent them anything. Sent them about $500 in clothes and received 25 for that. That's ok I figured better then donating but then I found out that my 1 1/2 coach purse, wallet and my never worn 6 month old leather jacket was supposedly donated because it did not fit there standards. Now I know this company is a scam. Oh well lesson learned and I just hope that's others won't be as stupid thinking that there are still honest businesses people in the US.
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.
