ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

Don't sell your items here. You won't get anywhere close to the value of the items you send and the items they claim to donate are sold through other resale sites. It'll be easier to do it yourself through Mercari or Facebook marketplace where you set your own prices. Only getting $1.40 for a pair of pants that sold for $20
They never described the clothes you sent them correctly, like the condition and materials, so that caused many returns and you will never sell your item successfully. I sold three items and two of them were returned with no reason.
I just wonder, where the clothes will go if they weren't sold or accepted. Because I sent them some clothes like new and they never accepted them, but those in fair condition usually have more chances to be accepted. So strange. However, it's still a good place to clean out garbages from closet.
Just want to share my selling experience w Thredup … ThredUP has very high standards at selling items …my Burberry, Brunomagli, Coach, jcrew, MassimoDutti shoes were recycled since they dont meet up thredUP standard …
Thredup will claim a perfect condition high value item doesn't meet their standards so they won't list it under your account and you won't get a payout. I've been reselling for over a decade across many platforms and know how to evaluate an item. I have 5 star reviews and no returns. Yet thredup will claim they probably found a flaw in the item to justify not listing it (because they're stealing it to resell out from under you) as if they have superior inspection skills (they don't).
Their customer service then goes on to belittle you and offer no solution, arrogantly doubling down while being vague about what happened to your flawless item. They never directly say why they rejected a certain item despite claiming to document flaws. It's because they didn't reject it - they stole it. It will end up being listed under another account so they take full profit. They're unethical scammers and liars.
Fourteen days ago, we get ThredUp's mail saying that our order had been canceled and no merchandise will ship, and they had fully refunded the amount to the original form of payment used.
The refund has not been credited yet. Also, they have not responded to any of our emails.
Never received my product for a purchase of over $100. Their customer service told me there is nothing they could do refund-wise and told me to contact police for theft. This is insane. If I spend money on product, I expect to receive it. The only theft here is from ThredUp.
Absolutely not worth it. They are slow to process and I get way more $ for my clothes locally. I'll never send another bag to them.
I found thredup through Facebook last year. The first purse I bought the bag had black streaks on it although the picture didn't. I sent the bag back and was refunded because it should have been like new. Over Thanksgiving last year I was blocked from going on the site because I was saving bags. I explained to them that people are still able to buy what is in my cart and they have 1 hr. Save every month. They allowed me to go back on the site, and I bought a bag that I wanted. Sometime in July I was blocked from going on the site again without any explanation. My advice this site has some options if you want a new designer bag, but since a lot of bags are non refundable I would be careful about what I bought. Also, the site shouldn't kick you off for saving bags particularly if there are ways for other people to buy them.
Thredup is pathetic. Their listings and measurements are COMPLETELY inaccurate and they will scam you by charging you for items you have returned.
First of all, the measurements of their items are COMPLETELY wrong. Off by 5 inches or more for many of the items in my order. Then when I complained about this to customer service and returned the items, they did not refund me for a $130 item that I returned. When I contacted them about it, they said that it was not one of the items I had complained about so was not on the return list so therefore they couldn't refund me. WTF! The item was returned to them in the box, they had it in the warehouse, but they refused to refund me. INSANE. So now I am out $130 because they completely scammed me. On top of that, the customer service agent I spoke to was totally rude about it and unhelpful and blaming me for the fact that they scammed me.
DO NOT ORDER FROM THREDUP!
I brought a Jean for my daughter but it doesn't fix her. I returned it a month and half ago but never received a refund. Don't order anything from this company.
The clothes are great, if overpriced, but the stench is unbearable. Got a box today; the clothes and box stink like the worst, cheapest perfume/air freshener. Got a headache immediately; washed all the clothes and they still smell awful. I had to hang the clothes in the basement because my boyfriend couldn't stand the smell either. Never again!
While I love shopping at Thredup I might have to rethink shopping here. I recently order quite a few items. One of the pairs of jeans as pulls all over the crotch area and butt. They are in such bad condition they'll have to be tossed :( unfortunately these are marked as unreturnable. Secondly I purchased a dress new with tags is all it said. But it as holes in the lace all over! Again it's not fixable, but thankfully this one could be returned. And then I had a second pair of jeans with the pulled stretched fabric at the crotch. Thankfully they can be returned. But my issue is they obviously aren't checking items for quality. And one of my items a white skirt has a stain on it. I think I can remove it.
My bag arrived at the end of August. It contains winter clothes. I sent the bag early because of the slow processing. That is an understatement. The estimated processing date was November 19. The date has been pushed back 6 weeks as of today. The company response is thank you for your patience. What a joke. I will not use this company again
I am not impressed at ALL with their customer service. I ordered 5 dresses and did not receive them because the mail person marked it as delivered. Maybe it went to the wrong address, or maybe this website is just a scam! It's too bad because they have cute stuff. I feel this is a total scam! Don't recommend it to anyone.
I ordered seven Disney T-shirts under Large or Extra Large Women's size. Only ONE was the correct size. The rest were ALL children's sizes; so not wearable by me EVER. When I tried to find out how to return them; the site stated I had NO orders to be able to return. Then it stated I had NEVER ordered from them at all.
For me, this is a total ripoff and I feel very badly for others who go through the same process and can't do anything about what they have ordered. AS I STATED--TOTAL RIPOFF!
I sent my clothes to them more than 3 months ago and my "process by date" has been pushed back at least 5 times now. And by the way, even after your kit gets processed you don't get paid right away, but have to wait till your items are sold and after it is confirmed they are not being returned. I would stay away from Threadup at all costs.
The sire ( Thredup), has decent finds, but make sure that you want the items! No turning back! I had to GOOGLE how to cancel the order I wanted to cancel because they're lil chat machine didn't find my VERY obvious order number. So I found the answer and after being screened with several answers by the lil robotic chat machine. I was able to email with a request for cancellation, hopefully they will "get the request in time." I do not like that type of hurry up and send before they can cancel type of business. UPDATE: They did cancel my order the same day... process still horrible IMO...
I ordered (4) dresses from for a total of $108.30 and requested to return (2) of them because the condition was not as described. They sent me a Fedex label and I returned them the same day. The tracking shows the return was delivered 10/26/21 - but I've still not received credit for the return. They have no phone number listed so I emailed multiple times. When I received no response, entered a partial dispute with my credit card company for the amt of the return. Today I learned they actually fought the dispute and sent my credit card company a copy of the original order for 4 dresses without acknowledging the return. Fortunately for me I kept a copy of the original return authorization and tracking number which proves their dishonesty. My credit card company says they may revoke their abiltiy to accept credit cards in the future.
When I go to my merchant account today I see they deleted the order history - both the original purchase and the return, so my account has a blank history. This tells me this is not a reputable merchant and I will not do further business with them.
The descriptions are poor. Two sweaters I purchased had balled material and one was actually dirty. One pair of jeans I purchased were described as bootcut and were a skinny style upon arrival, plus the sizing is off. The sweaters were at the point of becoming rags and I definitely would not consider them to be in excellent condition. I reached out to customer support, which directed me to return them as item not as described, but the site is not user friendly. I could not figure out how to even go about that from orders tab or return tab. This order was a flop! Order#*******... I also tried to attach pictures but could not get them uploaded.
If you want to sale your clothes and be a good person who is trying to recycle clothing food for you but don't expect to get a good price for your clothes. Thred Up pays you very little for your own clothing and gives themselves a huge chunk of the cash. It's great if you're buying. Good clothes for a cheaper price. But honestly they're a very greedy business I would not buy or sale anything through them.
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
