ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

I bought real good quality stuff, but the sizes are weirdly random: 4 skirst, 4 different sizes even though they were all 8. But I know it depends on the brands, not thredUP.
Always great stuff, always different from the crowd, always quality for the money, and cheap by comparison with every other store out there. Long live thred-up
Everything I ordered fit as expected. Descriptions were very useful along with measurements in details section!
I wanted a pink coat. The item was not in the best condition.
Overall makes it pretty easy to resell your brand name clothing. However, it takes literally months for them to process your items. They have pretty good selection for buying, too.
Thread Up has given me hope again that I can find nice clothes at a bargain price with only minor wear and some brand new. Sending things back can be a challenging wait, but otherwise, I'm very glad I found this place. Some things are too pricey for me, but I'm on a very tight budget. Considering that fact, I've done very well with this place and I am grateful. Thank you for bringing me some light in my life.
THe product was pretty much brand new and it shipped so fast which was awesome!
Great items at good prices. Some items are more worn than others but easy returns if somethings not right
Great value and quick delivery! The return process is easy, if needed.
I'm extremely impressed with the quality of the clothes I've received and the prices are amazing!
So glad I found this site!
I'm so happy I found ThredUP! I have found so many brand name item in great condition at great prices. Cole Haan's for $40? I'm a customer for life. Every item has been in near impeccable condition and delivered quickly.
When I found Thredup I thought it was a great concept. Easy and convenient shipping etc. don't let them fool you that it's free... when they keep all of your bag full of clothes and send you pennies it's not worth it. I sent a very large bag stuffed with 20 pairs of Boys jeans sizes 8-12. All name brand for children, Levi's, Children's Place, Gap, and at least 20 Polo shirts, and I mean Ralph Lauren Polo, Izod and Abercrombie... ALL of these were in PERFECT condition. I got my email today that I received $3! Really? I'm sure they will turn around and sell each of those items for four times that! I would rather have donated the clothing to a women's shelter than let someone else get that kind of profit. I realize they are in it to make money but come on...
Yes, fool me once... but they won't get me again. Don't let them get you either!
Thred-up has a nice selection of gently-used clothing to choose from for decent prices if you're in the market as a buyer, but as a consignor, I will not use this site again. Out of 70 items of gently-worn (many brand-new) clothing that I sent in to be consigned (adult, youth, & baby items), they only accepted 13 items, and I was only paid $18.60. To me, that isn't worth sending my items to them again. You can get unaccepted items returned to you for a cost (around $10), but that would be me paying $10 to get my own clothes back and having made a profit of only $8.60 for all of those clothes. I would have been better off donating my unwanted clothing to a local clothing bank for free. Thred-up supposedly "responsibly recycles" the clothes, but you have no idea what really happens to them. To be very honest, I just don't trust selling to this site, again. I don't trust their judgement on what is worth being resold, and I don't trust what they truly do with any unaccepted items that are still in very good condition.
I am beyond upset about my experience with "selling" my clothes to ThredUP. They completely ripped me off. It is partially my fault, when they asked if I wanted Return Assurance, I said no, because never in a million years did I expect them to NOT accept the amazing, barely used designer items I sent them. I sent them a Coach bag, Anthropologie bag, a pair of tall suede Michael Kors boots, and a pair of Hudson jeans, to name a few. All in perfect condition (ok the Coach bag had a little worn, fading happening on the bottom). They didn't accept any of it. They also didn't "accept" the NEVER BEEN WORN TAGS ON GARETH PUGH DRESS that retails for $700. It was too small for me, so I never wore it. I NEVER thought they wouldn't at least take that?! They ONLY thing they did accept, of the 12 items I sent was an old Abercrombie and Fitch sweater from 2001. It was an $80 sweater and they gave $1.80. That's it's. Over a thousand dollars worth of really good clothing and leather/suede designer bags and boots and they gave me $1.80. I hate ThredUP!
I tried contacting them immediately to see if they could send my "unacceptable" clothing back. I even offered to pay extra. They sent me an auto response that basically told me I'm SOL. Horrible, greedy company. I can't believe I was so stupid to trust them. Never again. SELLERS BEWARE!
I asked for return assurance on my bag (in which they only accepted one item so I just lost money pretty much) and they said they were going to send it back and to email them if I needed to change my address. I emailed them within an hour saying that I needed my shipping address changed and they replied two days later saying that couldn't change it because they already sent it. Now fedex can't change it either. Why bother saying that your address can be changed if you aren't going to reply for two days until its too late?
Send them a bag of Chico's clothing - all items within last two seasons and all in near-new condition. I received less than 10% of the price they obtained from selling my clothes. Furthermore, every item I sent them sold.
Yes, it is a little more effort to list things on EBAY but the payoff is the difference between $16 and some amount north of $300. I will never sell to Thred-up again, and because of the way they conduct business, I will also never buy from them again.
Take your business elsewhere.
Do not sell your clothes here! They rip you off. You don't even get ten per cent of what they resell it for. And even if you use the "payout estimator" and it states the items/brands will be accepted, there is no guarantee. I sent in about thirty items, estimator told me all should be accepted but only four were! At least I come from an high income family but anyone hoping to make money from this site is in for a huge disappointment.
Don't send them your clothes. They gave me a 1.80 for a jacket that they listed for 18.00. They just took advantage of me. They use to be fair but 10z% of the selling price. I could have gotten a larger tax deduction. I wrote them it took 5 days to get back to me, I asked for my items back, hopefully they will reply. They are just too greedy!
When I first discovered ThredUp, I loved them on the buying side. Everything I got was how it was described and if it didn't fit, it was painless and easy to return. I wasn't exactly thrilled with their refund policy but credit to buy more stuff from them was a good second option. I've never used their customer service because I always generally had good experiences buying from them and no problems.
I've tried selling with them twice and I will NEVER do it again. I'm all about convenience so the idea of filling a bag up and sending it somewhere for them to do all the heavy lifting sounded great. The first time I sent in a bag, I did what many people before me have done, which is send in a "tester" bag of my not super expensive stuff but my more reasonably priced, gently used but designer label items to see how it went. They kept about half the items and paid me $9.53, which in the grand scheme, is nothing but the items I sent in weren't top of the line or exactly brand new so I took it as a plus that they kept as much as they did and I made any money at all. The second time was a complete rip off. I sent in my higher quality items, some worn once or twice, including big designer name items. They kept 2 things out of 30 (a no-name beater style tank top and a Nine West purse). I was heartbroken. The tank top was literally something I threw in there as an afterthought thinking "what the hell?" It's the one article of clothing they kept our of 29 other designer items. There was even an identical tank top with a different color scheme and they kept one! Selling with them is a joke and I'm so disappointed in their new rip off structure that after I finish off the credit I have with them, I'll never buy or sell with them again
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
