I recently tried to work with Therealreal. I have proof of authenticity of my items, which many were gifts from family and/or vintage pieces. They kept my items saying "questionable authenticity" and not authentic…. Again who would send something knowing it was fake…. Not me again I have proof authenticity. They will not give me back my items unless I provide proof of purchase again these are vintage and from my grandmother. They keep stating policy but when I provided my 27 items to them they didn't say anything about keeping your items and the fact that another rebuttable company authenticated but yet they still won't return. I have retained and attorney. Do not send your items to them. Beware.
I brought 5 pair of shoes on February to Brentwood location. They gave me " funny " prices: for an example: for almost new shoes for 1800$ They offered 500$ total: 100$ to me …store commission 400$! What!? Ok, I decided to cancel this operation and., it's a may! They still didn't sent it back! They didn't return my iteams, they just hold it on facility! I tried to reach them but nothing … I need to wait 4 th month for my stuff. So disappointed! Terrible experience, awful company
Terrible. I didn't receive my item and they didn't fully refund me. I ordered something and after 3 weeks it didn't show up. I contacted customer service and they said the item was still on its way. Then I checked the tracking number which DHL said was invalid. They said they would refund me but did not refund the full amount. I sent them screenshots of the different amounts and they refunded me. 8 emails later, I'm out $20, I have no item, and not even a coupon code for the whole run around.
I have used this site regularly as a purchaser and have been very satisfied with not only the merchandise received but the level of customer service as well! Keeping in mind that it is second hand items that are viewed only by a few photos it can not be expected that every transaction will be flawless but in my experience they do go above and beyond to resolve any disputes.
Just had my Moussy Vintage never worn jeans returned to me as unable to consign, due to interior staining. The interior stains were the manufactures imprinting of the style and size! Are real people listing these items?!?
Used products are not subject to customs fees in Canada. I bought several products for total over $800, but UPS charged me for $250. It's the worst shopping experience ever. I thought TheRealReal is one of the best pre-owned luxury website, but now I am afraid of buying anything from here. Its just too ridiculous.
There used to be more discounts for loyal customers which I am one of for sure.
I haven't seen a discount email in a long long time.
Not very happy with that
Also I'd like to start selling but is there anyway you can make it easier? Can you come pick up from my door?
I had two valuable items go missing (not three as I initially wrote) and, to summarize, the company made things right. They honor their commitments. I would like to take down my negative review so please send guidance on this if it is doable. The Real Real is a responsive and responsible business. I will continue to consign with them as they have fully earned my trust.
The good: 2 pairs of boots were as listed.
The bad: leggings arrived with holes and stretched out; were listed in excellent condition. And I had to pay for return shipping even with the bad listing and product.
Also received the wrong dress that was stained and smelly. Again they asked I pay return shipping on something I didn't order. The kicker is I still haven't received a refund or the correct dress (which I've tried to cancel).
I think this will be the last time I use this site. The quality control doesn't exist anymore and it's no longer worth it.
Hi Elizabeth, we're so sorry to hear your order arrived to you in that condition and we'd be more than happy to refund you for the shipping cost of the leggings. For the incorrect dress, please send our team a DM on social media so we can assist you with this.
I previously worked at TheRealReal and one reason I left is because I was asked to appraise and "authenticate" big brand name pieces with little or in some cases no training on how to do so. If you have purchased anything from the company, I highly recommend taking it into the brand store to be authenticated. Some pieces are real, but plenty are not.
I signed on to TheRealReal to consider doing business with them. The multiple daily emails annoyed me so much I asked to be taken off their list. Now every morning I receive even more annoying, a text message. Four emails later, they STILL say they cannot find a record of my phone number and the texts continue. Either their records are a real real mess or they are not being thorough and honest. At any rate I would never recommend doing business with them!
Hi Sandra,
I confirmed with our Marketing department that we don't send text messages to our customers at all. Nor do we send text updates for any transactional purposes. So I'm not sure where those are coming from. The twice daily emails, for our customers who are opted in, is a core part of the way our business works, as we have flash sales starting at 7am and 4pm Pacific time, which is where we feature the new consignment products that we've brought in. If you'd prefer not to get the emails, then you can opt out, just as you did.

Two out of three items were satisfactory. The Theory trench coat that arrived was very disappointing. Stitching coming undone on pockets, a button hanging by a thread and general wear was beyond what should have been accepted by your curators. It was outright shabby. Honestly, I would not have paid $10 for the Theory trench coat at Goodwill.
Purchased two items, which were shipped separately but arrived at the same time. This was great as I didn't have to pay any extra duties/customs which happens a lot when shipping to Canada. Shipping was very quick and items were exactly as described. Will be ordering from here again! (: would recommend
Shipping and tracking is fast and prompt. I find the descriptions to be inaccurate or misleading on a few items. One had the wrong fabric content although it had a fabric label. An item marked excellent had a hole in the sleeve, not visible on any photos, another item ranked excellent turned out to have significant fading. I believe these are due more to carelessness and hurried processing rather than attempts to con customers. I a happy with most of my purchases.
Wrong size sent, customer service is non existent. They want you to text an cs agent—the wait is still crazy long— and they are terrible! They know nothing! And this is EVERY ORDER! Plus they blow up your email and text with messages but when it comes to a store credit earned through a promotion they don't send it! If you call (takes you hours) they say oh check junk folder…. Horrible service and company and now they have hiked prices above retail! Yuk
Hi Lola, we're so sorry for your experience with us and truly appreciate you sharing this feedback with us. If there is anything we're able to help you with, please reach out to our team on social media with your account details.
I like getting an automated response of how long it would take forever someone to contact me. I really appreciate receiving a quick response back from an actual person within the time frame. This really puts me at ease and everything was resolved.
Ordered a Tiffany & Co watch and it delivered within 2 business days.
The watch was in a better condition than as shown, and it's the most adorable thing ever!
Whereas Tiffany watches normally cost at least $3000, I paid $225 for mine at TheRealReal.
That being said, I've seen mixed reviews and a lot of skepticism among other customers.
My mom purchased a Mulberry purse and paid more for it to be delivered within a quicker time period.
However, it arrived two days later and she was disappointed with its condition.
Both the watch and the purse are authentic.
I love The Real Real but shipping could improve. Having the option to pick up your package at a ups location would be more aligned with company's sustainability efforts and would help customers who live in cities where package theft is a problem.
Thank you so much for sharing this feedback with us, Ana. We'll pass your note along to our team for further consideration.
I have purchased numerous fragile items from the real real over the last year and a half and every time they missed a chip or a crack or packed a porcelain service like a 5 year old, I'd foolishly think to my sleeve that they'd eventually get things in order.
Not only have they gotten worse at describing conditions and packing fragile items, they have gotten far more stingy with their partial refunds. This is highly troubling as a customer, as the last thing I want to do is spend my precious time packing items up carefully for a return when they are the ones that messed up. For a client that has spent nearly $100,000 with them, it makes zero business sense. I'm fed up.
I've made several purchases from therealreal.com and have been satisfied with the items when I received them. It's great to add quality pieces to one's wardrobe without breaking the bank.
My last purchase was NOT the best experience because 2 of the items were not sized properly. One was marked Small when it should've been Small petite, and the other is listed as Medium but is more like a Large. Now I have no use for them.
Answer: Do not buy from them! Their return/refund policy is skewed to their benefit. In my case, I bought a Louis Vuitton bag and when it was received it was not in the condition advertised or the photos did not highlight the real wear of the bag and they refused to make a refund or credit. It's their lost because I have since bought many bags on Ebay which offers guarantee of refund should item be faulty or misrepresented. Also, on Ebay you can judge by seller feedback whether the seller is reputable and PRICES are so much less than on the REAL REAL. Their name should be changed to the REAL GREED!
Answer: Hi Samantha. The RealReal does sometimes ask for additional information from customers for a one time security check. Most times, this is for new customers who have never shopped with us before, orders with vastly different billing and shipping information, or are international customers with unverified credit cards. We will ask for some sensitive and personal information for the purposes of verifying the identity of the purchaser but we will not ask for a Social Security Number. Was your father attempting to complete his purchase via Affirm? Affirm is a third party company we work with that offers financing on purchases. If your father was attempting to complete a purchase via Affirm, they do require a SSN for a soft credit check for the loan approval and repayment options. As Affirm is a third party, we do not have access to any of that information so it is secure with Affirm. Of course, no one is required to use Affirm for check out, rather it's just another payment option we offer. Please feel free to reach out to us if this does not answer your questions or if you feel that the explanations provided were not applicable to your situation. You can reach out to our Customer Service Department at (855) 435 5893 from 8am to 5pm (PST). If you would like to speak to a supervisor directly, please feel free to ask for Caitlin from our NJ office. She is available from 9am to 6pm (EST) and of course you can reach us via email at: customerservice@therealreal.com.
Answer: If you like to be frustrated, disappointed and want to take a few years off your life, then yes consign with the real real.
Answer: I do NOT recommend selling through TRR. Read all seller reviews. This a speed selling co trying to cash in on a quick commission. The prices they assign are RIDICULOULOUS at best. They are not there to get you a good price but a fast buck for themselves. They priced a brand new prada bag with a label on at $625. Minus 20% permanent discount, 60% of that, I receive a whopping $312. After 10 days wait of processing and seeing the prices assigned I pulled my items. I was shocked and even more upset. I rather give the cloths to charity or sell them myself. I think it is insiders who buy the best items at dirt cheap prices they assign themselves. As a buyer just today I receive a wrong item. They were going to research the problem and find the item I purchased, a coat. They sent me a dirty silk top... This is after waiting for 10 days to get the wrong item. This co is just very bad. Customer service is spotty. Some reps are just dreadful. They sound like this is a summer gig and they got no training, you can never speak to a supervisor, none is ever available, Read the reviews and decide if you still want to use this co. If you do, you will be disappointed,
Answer: Hello, We are sorry to hear of your concerns. If you can please send us your order number or email address we will happily research this further.
Answer: Hi Frank, Thank you for reaching out. We apologize you have seen more negative than positive reviews. We would be pleased to advise you on our consignment process and share a little more insight about the RealReal.
Answer: I don't work for The Real Real I am just a satisfied customer, very satisfied! I see all the complaints, and just shake my head. Knowing how people can be, and also knowing the complainers are the ones who write letters, I can only assume they are "out of touch with reality", or POSSIBLY are competitors who are just being difficult to try and hurt the site. Remember, anyone can write anything, that does not mean it is true, nor are ALL the facts being presented! As for me, I am willing to show, and prove who I am, and the great products and service I received.
Answer: This happened to me only one time, and I have sold quite a few items with them. As soon as I received the quote for a pair of earrings. I contacted them immediately and said I felt the price was to low due to various reasons, and they got back to me the next day with an adjusted price. I have never experienced what you are describing above as a bait and switch scenario, and I always check the similar or same items they are selling. I would just call them and ask for the details as to why the other item is higher. Sorry you had a bad experience!
Answer: File a complaint with the US Customs office in your area and your state's attorney general. Also for many types of goods, they will destroy the counterfeit goods and give you a letter stating they have done so. This is ironclad proof for the bank dispute.
Answer: I have returned things with no hassle at all.
