The length of time from completing an order until receipt of your purchased item(s) is absurdly long. For example, I placed 2 orders on February 19,2021 and expect to receive them today, March 1st. In 2021, this is laughably too long. Every other online retailer from whom I order (and it's a lot) has figured out how to engage customers to receive their items within a few days. TheRealReal needs help in this area. Quickly.
I placed an order with this company for something in the home department. At checkout it said the shipping was free. When I clicked order my item had gone up by $520. Apparently they don't calculate shipping until after you have agreed to pay for it. I immediately called (within 5 minutes) and was told it was already processing?! I have emailed two more times and receive no response. As soon as this is resolved I will close my account and never shop here again. I have never heard of charging $520 for shipping and not notifying the customer first. Completely ridiculous.
No one got back to me, after 30 minutes on the phone. Still waiting. Years of bad customer service. Love the product. Just hope you never have an issue or need customer service or buy a watch that needs authentication.
I had a horrible experience. They did not show one of my items correctly and never did anything about it. You can never get a hole of customer service, they just send the same generic email that they're working to get the issue resolved but it never happened. Pricing on items and commission rates are ridiculous. They are not accurate. Pictures show my top as it was listed, and how it was supposed to look. Big difference
A bit weary at first. I honestly Thought I was going to receive my item not as described. I've never bought anything used before. However, the item looked brand new when I got it in the mail. It also came with a cute little bag. Am definitely buying again.
Always lurking 1st time buying. Was on the fence on purchasing something on here considering there are other sites to purchase preloved items. Decided to bite the bullet and purchase something I've been wanting. Item came as described, if not better than anticipated. I do feel that for the price you're paying... shipping should be free. Experience was seamless and fairly fast... within a week and a half I received my item.
I have consigned with them. This will be my last time. I find that I can do better on my own or using other consignment shops. The sales prices achieved are dismal, if they can even sell an item. Now they have 6 items of mine, and haven't sold any in 3 months. I have to wait another 3 months for their return.
I purchased an item that was nothing like the description. I honestly do not know how they can sell items in such bad shape and categorize them as "very good condition". The item was poor condition at best. I would be very weary of the no return policy.
Customer service could care less. I guess they have gotten to the point where they do not care if they lose business. Greed will make a business fall just as fast as it grew.
Sent a set of vintage silverware in original box. It was returned despite being pre approved. Item was returned completely damaged box smashed. They repurchased the box at $100 well under the value and then took 60% of the "sale". Oh they gave me "store credit"
To compensate me. Ridiculous
This company is so large and receives so many items. If something is lost, a price is made up! Example: leather Kate Spade handbag new with tags and in original box was lost and sold as a plastic purse. RR assigned a price of of $45. And then took their commission. Whenever I have questions, I am told the department will be notified of the problem and two weeks later nothing is resolved. All I want is the rest of items to be sold and items that were not taken to be returned to me. Ie: sterling silver sugar tongs, Rosenthal pieces and jade earrings. All I can say, all runs smoothly until you hit a snag. I will NEVER consign again. Seller beware!
Hi Teresa, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and we're sorry to hear your consigning experience with us has been less than positive. We'd be more than happy to look into this for you -- please send us a DM on social media with your email address and consignor ID.
I have ordered from The Real Real 13 times and have had some luck. I really enjoy finding clothing brands that are not readily found at the local mall. I have found some bargains as well. Don't look at the sizes, every brand is different, rather shop by your measurements.
I have had some problems. Sometimes the measurements listed are incorrect. I received a shirt once with no tag. I called the call line and only received store credit. Every clothing item has a tag. If the tag is removed you cannot return the item. Today I received a winter coat where the tag was place directly through the center of the sleeve! I am unable to get my arm into the coat without removing the tag! Finally I received a "new" ST John sweater with original tags. I wore it and found that there were several holes in the sweater! Since the tag was removed The real real gave me $20.00 store credit. This was not fair. While deals are to be found remember that postage for shipping and returns add up.
I like the site and have been happy with all my purchases thus far, however, given the recent revelations regarding your authentication process I would like more transparency regarding how items were verified. Additionally, i would love the option to sort by seasons since i really loved tom fords gucci collections and prefer it to Alessandro Michele's current run of, gaudy, tacky pieces.
Often items are new with original tags attached--at a fraction of their new price. The quality is as described and usually the item is returnable if it doesn't fit or meet expectations. I have found some real treasures on this site! Customer service is great and the First Look monthly program is definitely worth the $10.
I've had some good experiences and some bad experiences with them. Took months and multiple calls and emails to get a refund for counterfeit items once, but also pretty quick response for others. They did ultimately refund me for an item I purchased years ago after I had it authenticated, so it could be worse (e.g. Vestiaire Collective who refused to refund me even though i had a third party authentication service say something was fake immediately after I received it). Always get items from here independently authenticated if they're expensive. I treat it like ebay. There are some good deals though and I do still shop here a lot
Hello Kelli,
Thank you very much for your feedback. We sincerely appreciate you shopping with us at The RealReal.
For any questions or concerns you may have, our team is here for you.
As always, theRealReal is great at proving that companies are still human. When I have questions about purchasing or consigning, a real person gets back to me. When my coupon expired before I was able to use it, they extended the availability so I could use it. Previously, an item I purchased was not actually in inventory, so they credited my card for the amount and gave me a credit as an apology. Plus, every time I go to consign in person, I get real honest information that doesn't feel like they're just trying to make money.
I've feel lied to and cheated - talk about bait-and-switch between the come-on and the received results! This company's lack of ethics clearly shows they're trying to avoid bankruptcy, screwing their "customers" out of everything they can get before they go under. Don't front them ANYTHING and leave the chance they'll owe you! I sent an original-price $150 shirt NWT for them to sell, in return they sent me $4.40. After charging me $10 to send that in a check (I was given no choice on, I'd prefer electronic payment - no cost to receive my money faster - so here they play the float on mail time for all of their checks, AND charge the customer a hidden $10 fee?!). Meanwhile, I'd never have sold the shirt through them if I had ANY idea I'd receive so little - their website shows they sold my item for $72. They sent me $4. You do the math. I might as well have gone through Goodwill. AND their customer service is heavily-accented Indian, who plead helplessness to resolve.
Highly discourage anyone from using this service. After two months of back and forth they claim they never received one of two items in same box. This was after one of the sales reps told me not to worry and I would be made whole. I provided photos of both items in box when I shipped. This means they don't really inspect items for quality of entire pieces go missing and if any issue arises, it's your word against theirs, even with photos.
I have been waiting over a month for a refund on a pair of boots that were sent back in the same
Box as second pair that I received refund.
No one seems to know where they are and continue to get different answers.
Hi Kullen, we're so sorry to hear there was an issue with your order refund. Please reach out to our team on social media with your order details so we can sort this out right away.
I am so tired of having to follow up on site credits owed to me or promotions promised but then not delivered. I tried to call customer service and now they won't even take calls. You have to email or text complaints and you get stock responses without any resolution. Beyond frustrating!
Do not sell your items with them. There commission percentage is ridiculous high and not worth it. I sent in my mint condition Louis Vuitton scarf for them to say I'll get $200 back from them after commission?!?!?! Unbelievable. They also lost my Louis Vuitton tag that I received when buying it from LV. Horrible customer service the women hung up on me after I explained what happened.
Answer: Do not buy from them! Their return/refund policy is skewed to their benefit. In my case, I bought a Louis Vuitton bag and when it was received it was not in the condition advertised or the photos did not highlight the real wear of the bag and they refused to make a refund or credit. It's their lost because I have since bought many bags on Ebay which offers guarantee of refund should item be faulty or misrepresented. Also, on Ebay you can judge by seller feedback whether the seller is reputable and PRICES are so much less than on the REAL REAL. Their name should be changed to the REAL GREED!
Answer: Hi Samantha. The RealReal does sometimes ask for additional information from customers for a one time security check. Most times, this is for new customers who have never shopped with us before, orders with vastly different billing and shipping information, or are international customers with unverified credit cards. We will ask for some sensitive and personal information for the purposes of verifying the identity of the purchaser but we will not ask for a Social Security Number. Was your father attempting to complete his purchase via Affirm? Affirm is a third party company we work with that offers financing on purchases. If your father was attempting to complete a purchase via Affirm, they do require a SSN for a soft credit check for the loan approval and repayment options. As Affirm is a third party, we do not have access to any of that information so it is secure with Affirm. Of course, no one is required to use Affirm for check out, rather it's just another payment option we offer. Please feel free to reach out to us if this does not answer your questions or if you feel that the explanations provided were not applicable to your situation. You can reach out to our Customer Service Department at (855) 435 5893 from 8am to 5pm (PST). If you would like to speak to a supervisor directly, please feel free to ask for Caitlin from our NJ office. She is available from 9am to 6pm (EST) and of course you can reach us via email at: customerservice@therealreal.com.
Answer: If you like to be frustrated, disappointed and want to take a few years off your life, then yes consign with the real real.
Answer: I do NOT recommend selling through TRR. Read all seller reviews. This a speed selling co trying to cash in on a quick commission. The prices they assign are RIDICULOULOUS at best. They are not there to get you a good price but a fast buck for themselves. They priced a brand new prada bag with a label on at $625. Minus 20% permanent discount, 60% of that, I receive a whopping $312. After 10 days wait of processing and seeing the prices assigned I pulled my items. I was shocked and even more upset. I rather give the cloths to charity or sell them myself. I think it is insiders who buy the best items at dirt cheap prices they assign themselves. As a buyer just today I receive a wrong item. They were going to research the problem and find the item I purchased, a coat. They sent me a dirty silk top... This is after waiting for 10 days to get the wrong item. This co is just very bad. Customer service is spotty. Some reps are just dreadful. They sound like this is a summer gig and they got no training, you can never speak to a supervisor, none is ever available, Read the reviews and decide if you still want to use this co. If you do, you will be disappointed,
Answer: Hello, We are sorry to hear of your concerns. If you can please send us your order number or email address we will happily research this further.
Answer: Hi Frank, Thank you for reaching out. We apologize you have seen more negative than positive reviews. We would be pleased to advise you on our consignment process and share a little more insight about the RealReal.
Answer: I don't work for The Real Real I am just a satisfied customer, very satisfied! I see all the complaints, and just shake my head. Knowing how people can be, and also knowing the complainers are the ones who write letters, I can only assume they are "out of touch with reality", or POSSIBLY are competitors who are just being difficult to try and hurt the site. Remember, anyone can write anything, that does not mean it is true, nor are ALL the facts being presented! As for me, I am willing to show, and prove who I am, and the great products and service I received.
Answer: This happened to me only one time, and I have sold quite a few items with them. As soon as I received the quote for a pair of earrings. I contacted them immediately and said I felt the price was to low due to various reasons, and they got back to me the next day with an adjusted price. I have never experienced what you are describing above as a bait and switch scenario, and I always check the similar or same items they are selling. I would just call them and ask for the details as to why the other item is higher. Sorry you had a bad experience!
Answer: File a complaint with the US Customs office in your area and your state's attorney general. Also for many types of goods, they will destroy the counterfeit goods and give you a letter stating they have done so. This is ironclad proof for the bank dispute.
Answer: I have returned things with no hassle at all.
